So C-ent news this week got a jolt with the very random and frankly too long a gap confirmation that a sequel to Princess Agents is set to start production. It’s based on the source novel and picks up from that frozen lake ending scene, with female lead Chu Qiao set for revenge for the death of her beloved Yuwen Yue and also searching for him suspecting he may have survived. None of the three leads Zhao Li Ying, Lin Geng Xin, or Shawn Dou are returning and the new female lead is reportedly teen actress Huangyang Tian Tian, who is all of 16 years old right now and she actually played Zhao Li Ying’s child version of Chu Qiao in the original Princess Agents. I’m not seeing this as a big budget production and more like trying to do a small drama and perhaps ride the wave of name recognition to the original drama on the heels of the two leads doing another hit drama this year with The Legend of Shen Li.

Isn’t 16 too young to have romantic relations with who knows how old the male lead will be? Or maybe wait till she comes of age? Too awkward. I guess she slightly looks like zyl but still I’d be uncomfortable watching and the ending before had them fall in water will they pick up from there? Or remake a whole new story? Kind of a let down. Like if they made a sequel to signal the k drama with new cast and did not continue from that open ending my heart would not be so dedicated. I appreciate Joy of Life 2 for their attempt bringing similar cast.
Hmmm. You're judging a show set in some ancient, not real Chinese period, and you're judging with a 21-century incredibly woke viewpoint. Just don't watch if you don't like it - easy. Some of you commenters are total jerks.
I dont know this young actress much but with the sequel, a new actress should be used for the reborn theme. As for male lead and supporting lead, I wonder who they will pick?
Sixteen?
-_-
PA 1 was a success because the three leads were quite good together. It’s why the anticipation for a collab between LGX and ZLY was much needed. I felt like what they gave us in Shen Li was enough and it completely closed the idea of PA 2 with the original cast beautifully. Now, to even start a new season without the original cast is a very unwise decision because fans are so stuck on LGX and ZLY as the main characters. Whoever is paying for this, get ready to lose money on this investment. I doubt there are many young male leads who will be able to play a mature stoic YWY paired with a 16 year old…in some ways, that sounds very uncomfortable. Lol
Also, I am content with the lake scene in PA 1 because honestly I didn’t think CQ deserved to be with YWY, although heartbroken he fell in, I am glad she didn’t end up with him, CQ was one annoying FL during the second half of PA 1. A sad ending made sense to me.
I agree she was very annoying in the second half that I find their romance not satisfying, the only thing that helped was their chemistry.
This is just a very bad idea, I won't be watching.
Far as I'm concerned, Legened of Shenli was the sequel.
Princess agents was a human mortal trial life, they're back to their immortal selves in Shenli,
she pulled him out of the water by his hair and they lived happily ever after as immortals.
I dont understand chinese producers sometimes. PA was good but not a masterpiece. It was carried by the great chemistry of the 3 main cast. The CP fans of ZLY and LGX are happy with Legend of Shenli. No one wants this and with the history of sequels changing cast and failing why even do this. Do they like losing money?
Sequels never get successful, when Chinese drama producers will understand that
Ironic how a 30-year old Zhao Liying portrayed a tanager on 1st part only for a teenager to portray an almost 30 year-old Chu Qiao on part 2 lol
It's a big mistake not to have the OG cast reprise their roles. The reason Princess Agents was such a massive hit in the first place was because the leads. The plot wasn't that great.
I will not watch it without the original leads. They find each other after years of searching in the book. They would be the age they are right now, sad, world weary, finding their way back to one another. Nobody can play them like ZLY and LGX. Nobody. After Shen Li, I am even more against a sequel with out them.
