The chatter around C-actress Tang Yan have a career resurgence after the C-drama Blossoms Shanghai earlier this year is legit real, she’s gotten top magazine spreads and new big brand endorsement deals. She’s also reportedly been fielding lots of scripts many would not have been offered to her prior to BS and she has now picked a next project. She’s going to be the top billed female lead in the C-drama Lady Liberty adapted from the novel Single Woman (独身女人 Du Shen Nu Ren) from the writer Yi Shu. To compare what a casting coup this is for her, Crystal Liu‘s current hit drama The Tale of Rose was also adapted from a Yi Shu novel and viewers are loving the story showing Rose’s evolution in love and professional life. The male lead in Lady Liberty will be Mark Chao who has been working very selectively when picking projects in recent years so his choosing this drama is also a good sign.

This casting is a chef's kiss, og c-drama veterans team-up (just like The Tale of Rose too). Already added to my watch list.
It's one of my favorites novels <3
Mark Chao has acting chops, not sure about Tiffany Tang. As I recall, she acted good in Blossoms Shanghai so I'm hopeful.
Top billing: Cdrama and their insult to their very own veteran and national actors like MarkChao among others.
Mark Chao has accepted to being part of the cast. It's his choice 🤷♀️
Mark Chao is definitely the better actor by miles. but Tang Yan might be more popular, especially after Blossoms Shanghai. and this is a female centric story. having her name come first makes sense from a story perspective as well.
TBH, Tang Yan perhaps benefited most from high profile Blossoms Shanghai not thanks to her acting but because her character was better written among all the three leading female leads. I wasn't impressed by BS (pun intended LOL) at all and that was one drama of major waste of my time going through the whole series just to watch Hu Ge. LOL. TY still has a lot of performing traces in her acting. She is impressive visually but not the one with talent in the acting department. Still, she obviously made her efforts in BS to gain recognition. So kudos to her for her hard work.
My Sunshine remains her best drama so far in my book. But that's not because I was impressed by her acting. Rather, her leading man's charisma contributed most to the success of MS. BTW, I realized later on Luo Yunxi was the young version of the ML in MS. He looked totally fine there. LOL. I wonder if he really has some health issues now.
I haven't seen My Sunshine so I had to search a clip of Luo Yunxi in it. You are right, he did look healthy. His weight loss is unnecessary.
@Lyss @Somebody you guys better worry about your Wang Xing Yue gege and stop being rude about other people's bodies.
@GD Gatsi LOL. I don't need to worry about Wang Xing Yue, he isn't even one of my favorites. I just love him in The Double, I have no more feelings yet. LOL. It's funny when users keep mentioning his name under my comments when we are having a disagreement (?). LOL.
Rude? Luo Yunxi doesn't look healthy. You should search pictures/videos of him without makeup. Also, in his career early years vs now. You'll see his case is worrisome.
Tang Yan has always been a solid actress so I'm glad Blossoms Shanghai allowed her to shine. It really shows that every actor just needs that one project that will turn the tide, change public opinion, and allow them to transition into more "serious" roles (Wang Kar Wai had to get involved, but hey, it happened). And for female actresses, these opportunities seem to come a little later in their career. The current batch of young actresses can use her and LYF as ideal career trajectories.
This sounds good. I hope it's a success like Crystal's drama
It's a great casting. I just don't know about the drama.
I am now done with rose and honestly, character development of the FL was non existent. It made me horribly frustrated and thinking that while it started great, it definitely did not finish in this way.
I hope this novel is better because these two in combination are amazing.
I liked Mr Sunshine only because of the male lead. She was kind of mediocre with her one note acting. Just a sour expression all the time. The leading man did all the heavy lifting. I realized how good he was after watching the movie version which was a cringe fest.
Finally, a good casting!
Wow solid solid casting news for once from Cent. Love the pairing and it’s perfect for the novel.
I didnt finish Rose bcuz the character seemed so 'pick me'. Im sorry but well, probably that kind of story isnt really my cup of tea. But i do love strong female lead characters tho.
I like Tang Yan, have finished a few projects of her but yes, my fave one was My Sunshine (eventho i hateeee her wig so much).
Mark Chao is amazing. Cant wait for their collaboration. But it will take one or two years to air.
