Shin Se Kyung Leaves EDAM After 3 Years and Will Look for New Agency

When K-actress Shin Se Kyung changed agency for the first time, it was three years ago when she left Namoo Actors for EDAM and that was a huge deal since she was with Namoo Actors for 19 years thanks to her child star entree into the industry. This week it was announced that she’s parted ways with EDAM and will be looking for a new agency. This isn’t surprising as her only two projects with EDAM have been Arthdal Chronicles: The Sword of Aramun and Captivating the King, neither of which made any meaningful contribution to her career. I find Shin Se Kyung really lovely and easy to watch in the right project/roles but she is capped by not being fully versatile.

  • I've always been bipolar when it comes to SSK. She can be really likeable in the right roles or genres, but that itself varies quite drastically from one to the next. She was great in TWDR but she sleep walked her way through Captivating the King. Loved her in GWSS and hated her just as much in BOH. You just never know when she'll be decent vs awful.

Anyway, I have no idea if changing agencies will change anything for her. Maybe they can help her pick better roles, but its mostly upto her and how she prob connects to her character.

    • She is super inconsistent. I did not even know she was a child actress. Her 19 yr agency did well for her because without their backing, doubt she’d have gotten this many high profile dramas.

  • She is barely working, Korean entertainment industry is that tolerant like the Chinese ones when it comes to bad acting, no what how good looking you are

  • I never clicked with her acting but it's becoming hard for actresses to get interesting projects with all the new faces who become popular overnight . It's already good that she acted in 2 dramas, some didn't work at all . I'm not meaning anything bad , just that entertainment is hard and only a few veteran actresses still maintaining a steady career .

  • But SSK always was inconsistent in her picks and her acting both. Doesn’t sound like the previous agency wasn’t doing well for her. They got her a drama with JJS and she starred in AC2 with LJK even if that was a questionable choice.

  • I can never seem to like her; dropped all of her dramas that I've tuned in. CTK was literally my last straw of her so will definitely be skipping any thing she's in the future. Funny thing was her drama of Bride's Water God was just airing on TV last week and her acting was literally as bad as CTK.

  • Announced today she joined Ahn Hyo Seop's agency, The Present Company, which is surprising. It is his own one man agency set up with his manager and she is the second artist.

I thought after her experience at a small agency as the only actress at EDAM she would choose a bigger, established agency next but they must have made her a great offer. It's good for AHS to have a famous actress on the agency roster.
