Armani, Tiffany, and YSL Do Not Select Tang Yan in Official Endorsement Capacity After She Doesn’t Win Best Actress at the Magnolia Awards

Things change so quickly in the entertainment industry and for C-actress Tang Yan it was one awards ceremony. She was riding the high of C-drama Blossoms Shanghai for the past 6 months and was the front runner for the Best Actress award at the 2024 Magnolia Awards held last week at the end of June. Zhou Yun ended up winning Best Actress and reportedly Tang Yan’s team felt blindsided as they really thought she had it locked up. Since then, the couture brands Tiffany’s, Armani, and YSL which all invited Tang Yan in recent months to their events have passed on naming her officially as a global or Asian ambassador or spokesperson. She even wore Armani Privé recently (the highest couture custom gown line for the house) but her team asked this week to borrow another Privé gown and was turned down. Insiders are saying it’s her Team’s fault for not signing an endorsement when she was hot and letting this chance pass her by, her side was in negotiations with those brands but due to being unsophisticated (her team are close friends type and not seasoned industry top vets) was not able to negotiate properly and close the deal before the award ceremony. Lesson learned.

  • May not even be due to the lack of winning the award. Maybe the Brand feels her team are not the right people to work with. I dont know what went on, on the negotiation table but to be rejected by so many Brands, one must really look seriously into the reasons and dont presume. It can be many other factors.
I do remember reading a article about how her team did not have a good professional stylist the last few years before Shanghai Blossom's fame.
I do hope she makes wise decisions that will help her led the life she wants.

    • Agreed about contract negotiation. My fave's team seems really an ace in the industry negotiating endorsements with brand names. I guess for that reason, there were rumors of scandals about a certain manager from time to time, perhaps a scheme for rivals to drive her out from his team. LOL>

      • I may not warm to Tang Yan's acting but I do feel she has a suitable built and visual to model outfits. Wish her well.

      • Yeah. I have no qualms about her visuals, just not a fan of her acting. Same as Reba, her physique and looks do fit better to Western aesthetic values.

The only drama of hers I like is My Sunshine, but for the ML, not for her sake. LOL.

      • @Somebody, I enjoyed My Sunshine drama. I watched it under 10times...🤣I enjoyed the novel too.

  • Luxury brands usually don't give their ambassadorship titles that easily until there is proof that you have some worth. These luxury brands were definitely deliberately holding back until after the awards, I doubt she will be able to close a deal before the awards even with a seasoned team.

    • That could be so... But I still feel her friends/family team news, if it is really true, looking at her previous image styling, lacklustre career, there may be a point there. Something she can look into. But it is still just my presumptions.
You are right, this industry is very competitive, luxury brands have so many artistes to pick from. These 3 may not work with her, someone else might. Time will tell.

  • Her team must absolutely suck if they couldn't get her a local ambassador/ spokesperson role or even at least a Friend of the House position for a single one of these brands.

It's sad for her this news was reported as it will make it even more difficult for her to land any luxury brands at all. None of them will want to take on another luxury house's reject. She is pretty with the visuals and height fit a Western aesthetic so she could have looked amazing in their pieces with the right styling.

She really needs to overhaul her team because they keep messing things up for her now she is trying to make a comeback. There was that debacle last year where she was double booked because she was doing some tacky streaming gig, late and refused entry to a big awards ceremony, also her fanclub shutting down to protest her tacky styling and lazy updates.

    • I still remember her birthday photoshoot, that team of her and really isn’t professional.
Family and friend shouldn’t be mized with work matters, look at how songzuer got banned by tax evasion events though it was revealed that she didn’t know about it and it was some of her family that wanted the unlawful money

    • I worked as a graphic designer for a fashion house and No, the brand marketing team knew exactly what they were doing, it's not her team's fault, they were probably deliberately holding back till the award event, and at the same time they were giving her deals to take advantage for her being buzz topic, they do this a lot.
But if her team was seasoned they could have guessed that they were being used when the brands kept delaying closing the deal, but they prob couldnt have done anything ab it that how tricky the fashion industry is.

  • Why would a couture brand care about whether someone wins a television award? Sounds like BS to me.

  • Brands don't care about rewards, they care about popularity so this is not related.

If she wasn't signed it was because either she wasn't happy with what they offered (if it were small, lowest tier titles) or the brands weren't happy with her data.

  • Her visuals are impressive. I am satisfied with her work in Blossoms Shanghai even though the drama itself bored me, so I hope in her future projects her beauty and talent will be on par.

  • She is needs an overhaul of her team and look into reinvesting in herself. Look at Yang Zi, sis teamed up with new stylists and stepped up her PR team too and bam, sis got luxury endorsements and was seen more internationally last year. TY's problem is, she didn't capitalise on her popularity at the height of it therefore can't surf on it internationally! Locally, she is considered an A-list despite having the least pull of the 85 lot but if you know that you want to branch out outside, you need to step up the media play from the jump. Look at Dilraba and Yang Mi. Dilraba came after both, but she has cemented herself with luxury brands for years and has scored numerous ambassadors, both global and brand ambassadors titles, even being the fourth Chinese actress inducted into the Business of Fashion hall of fame last year. Yang Mi got her momentum and ran with it still. Sure, YM is more career minded than TY, who chose to prioritise her family for a while but when you know the way you want to move in the industry, you ride it from the onset. TY is my girl though so rooting for her still!
