OMG I never even paired these two up in any fantasy casting and I can’t believe it didn’t cross my mind because hearing this real casting made me yelp out loud in excitement. Moon Ga Young and Choi Hyun Wook are confirmed for the workplace and romance K-drama The Man is Black Salt Dragon. It tells of two former gaming fanatics who 16 years later reunite in the same company and find each other trying to avoid talk of their past while still clicking in the present. Choi Hyun Wook is the former gambling wastrel turned hardworking department store chaebol heir and Moon Ga Young is the fast rising department store manager who crosses paths with her former gaming nemesis. I love both actors who are not just really good looking but also really really good at acting, it’s a total win-win combo and even more winning to be paired up together. The drama is adapted from a webtoon and will be directed by the PD of Delightfully Deceitful and Find Me in Your Memory.

"16 years later" Isn't CHW only 21-22? I get suspension of disbelief but that's a bit too young for the role, no? Also it's not like he is one of those young actors who gives a mature vibe like Lee Jae Wook, CHW looks and behaves immature. From the description it sounds like the characters should be in their early-mid 30s at least and MGY/CHW should be playing their younger versions lol.
I think Moon Ga Young is very pretty and a decent actress but her drama choices are so unappealing. I actively avoid her projects. She needs to do something other than these boring romcoms.
Even if they met at 16 then 16 years later will be 32. For MGY suspension of disbelief is possible but CHW in no way looks even 25 let alone 32. He should stick to high school roles for a few more years. He still has the rookie vibe and MGY is good but not great as an actress but her looks and fashion have been the focus of her recent dramas.
This. Choi Hyun Wook is still young and looks young too and can still play a high school role easily. Dk why they are giving him such roles which would require maturity. He should be taking it slow and first play college student or something that is closer to his age.
the miscasting game is so strong
it sounds good except the chaebol part
I love Moon Ga-Young and she's really great.
But I don't understand Choi Hyun-Wook's casting, it doesn't make sense with the story. He still acts as highschool student...
In the original webtoon they reunite 4 years later, not 16. I still can't understand why they chose 20s actor and actress, and changed character's age so much from 20s to 30s.
I still think it can be typo in korean article, and 16 years actually means 6 years or something like that.
But anyway, everything except this one thing looks promising for me. I read webtoon a little and I liked it.
MGY is very good actress. And CHW is very good actor, so I think he can bring "adult" vibe, make up with hair style can fix the rest.
So, fingers crossed, looking forward to that drama and their pairing.
Guess they really wanted to have a Chaebol boss with hardworking female employee romantic pairing.
The plot seems like such a typical cliche set-up: handsome chaebol boss and plucky hardworking female underling and connection from their childhood. I wish they could have at least made the female character the chaebol or lazy instead of hardworking or something lol😅
They could do it with 20s characters as well. I still hoping this was a typo 😄 but if not will wait and see
@Sunny
If they'd do that, then plot would have nothing common with webtoon 😄 I reccomend to you read it, webtoon doesn't have such cliche vibes, male character is very cute.
Weird. Why make so many changes then if the original timeline would have made more sense for an actor barely into his 20s? This makes me think he wasn't the first choice and their original choice was an older actor in his late 20s/early 30s.
I doubt that. Even if he wasn't a first choice they could chose another actor at this age. There are a lot of them. Famous director Lee Eung Bok also wanted to pair him with Go Min Si to play 30s character, but CHW declained the offer.
Probably they think he can do it.
For young actors in Kdramaland, it's either you keep playing student roles but get criticized by some viewers for being typecast as someone who never graduates, or you explore different and more mature roles but still get criticized for being miscast. There's no in-between. 😅 But yeah, there has to be more amount of challenging yet age-appropriate modern-day lead roles available for them somehow though, since it's kind of sad that the meatier roles and more interesting projects are usually allotted for actors in their 30s onwards.
A bit strange at first but I generally had no issues with perceiving CHW as an appa of Ryeo Un (who's older than him in real life) in Twinkling Watermelon, so I think this will be fine for me. If only tvN released his deleted scene in TW we could've seen him act as a college student first at least, but alas.🥲
CHW greatly improved his acting in Twinkling Watermelon. I was surprised how he portrayed his character in the last episode there. Vast difference from the time he was still a newbie in Twenty Five Twenty One. This is worth checking out to see him if he has improved yet again. It’s hard to get out of high school role image but this is a good way to challenge himself.
They are to reunite 16 years later? Were they 10yo when they were gaming fanatics?? Because that would be kind of adorable and the only thing that makes sense lol
