K-ent Article Discusses How the Airport Security Scandal Could Impact Byun Woo Seok’s Recently Inked CF Deals

Sometimes when there is a scandal a celeb gets a nickname that is hard to shake even if the scandal blows over. I hope Byun Woo Seok doesn’t get saddled with one that is catchy for this past week’s private security at the airport overstepping their bounds and imposing on other travelers. The matter is still percolating in South Korea and to kick off the week a news article by an entertainment reporter discusses how this public disapproval of what happened may/could affect Byun Woo Seok’s recent activities. He’s inked quite a few new CF deals to rep various brands across multiple industries and it’s not unheard of for a brand to cancel a deal after a scandal. But it’s not likely for Byun Woo Seok since his scandal was not on conduct of his own doing, but what happened around him and scrutiny over whether he should have done something to stop it. What could happen is that his next project which was going to be highly anticipated may not face more public blowback if the public isn’t ready to move on past this with him.

  • He has a lot to prove in his next project. His rise is sweet and swift but this is the first time, his acting has been good/memorable and the PD was thorough with what he wanted which played a part in it to some extent. More than airport security hoopla, thats the next hill he has to climb.

    • I hope he doesn’t lose his brand value after getting fame after such a long time when it was not his fault. It seems like witch hunt to subdue his fame . In view of actor he has proved himself much better than the current actors who get the roles on Netflix repeatedly maybe due to strong backup but fizzy out onscreen neither handsome nor act . So why he is being targeted I can’t decipher. At least Korean media should write good articles to promote as global star as people want to see him onscreen and not attached to some political controversies falsely accusing

      • He won't. His fangirls still adore him. People in media are just writing because he is their new favorite punching bag that gets lots of clicks. Rage bait.

      • To be honest, he kinda become everyone target after all these articles that step or ride on senior actors. Like those article stepping on kim soo hyun or riding on bae yong joon and wonbin. Even if his opponents team didn’t pour oil into the fire, there would be many fans of these senior actors who gladly did so. So this is the fault of his agency who released these articles

      • @Yuhyi

yep. even in the original article about this mentioned cha eun woo's advertising fee practically being the same as him and as expected cha eun woo's fans on theqoo does not take this mention kindly.

      • He's not being targeted. No one forced his security to behave like the Secret Service while BWS stands by, watching, and doing nothing to stop it. This isn't an entertainment scandal, it's a social one. Koreans simply don't look kindly upon anyone who abuse their power. Even chaebols can't get away with it and that should say something.
But it's true that some people probably couldn't wait for him to take a misstep so they can drag him down. You can thank his agency for the ridiculous mediaplay they've been doing for the past months, acting as if he's the second coming of Jesus. Fandoms of many stars have been soured by all of that. Even I'm sick of hearing his name and seeing his faces and I've been rooting for him since Record of Youth.

      • @mara i agree with your comment the most. i think both things can be true at the same time: that he's not totally blameless (should've at least done something) and also that some people from other fandoms were waiting for an opportunity to bash him and this is the perfect timing to do so. i'm neither a fan nor a hater so i can see things objectively, and the way i see it is that he should've apologized right away, using the excuse that he's totally new to all of this and was too overwhelmed to do anything, or something like that. some people here would probably say, “but he did nothing wrong! he shouldn't apologize!”. but i've seen videos of the incident and it was clear that he could see people being flashed and just stood by, and Koreans didn't like that, basing on the comments i've seen in korean forums. they even have a nickname for him now, “universe superstar” or something like that, which is a nickname meant to insult and mock him... not a good sign.

so yes, we can argue all day whether he did anything wrong or not, but the fact is, many koreans do think he thinks too highly of himself and that he “abused his power”, so the first step for him really should've been to apologize, the issue probably wouldn't have blown up if he only did so right away. i really blame his agency for all this, you can't convince me that the security behaved the way they did without instructions from his agency. and the way they handled this whole thing was equally messy. i said it in a comment in a post a month ago, that i was feeling nervous about him even tho i'm not a fan, because it usually doesn't end well when an actor has built his whole persona about being a “good boy” or a “walking green flag”, one misstep and people would easily turn on you... and i was right. add to that, they turned off a lot of people with their aggressive media play. but he probably will be fine since fangirls will always support him, you can see it in this comment section. as far as i know, no brand has dropped him anyway.

and i agree, this is more of a social issue, that's why it was even reported outside of entertainment news. like i said, i'm sure many antis are using this issue as a way to bash him, but fangirls should accept the fact that many people who are mad about this aren't antis, just ordinary people turned off by the power-tripping. koreans especially hate that

  • Im waiting for koala's post on bluedragon award lol.
I thk im oversaturated with the news surrounding BWS, security and airport fiasco.

    • Yeah I wonder if koala forgot about it. Well there doesn’t seem to be much fighting for this award

  • Some netizens are even criticising him for excessive fan service (naturally being nice to his fans) leading to excessive security (his agency hiring an overzealous security service)... utimately, IT WAS HIS FAULT. Wow, I would love to know how people can twist something around like this...

  • This is not worth destroying a career. There are others artistes who gets away with worse. Just target those.

    • Saying that, I personally do not see how Byun Woo Seok is responsible. His agency who is paid alot of money to manage him, they are responsible for managing his Brand, career, his outside jobs, his safety at work, promoting him and handling damage control.

Sure, the security company they employed is clearly not doing their jobs well. But it is the agency who engaged their service thus it come back to the agency when there is a issue. Thus instead of finger pointing at anyone...just apology for this error... apology for not managing the security contractors they have engaged properly.

Byun Woo Seok's job was wear fashionable clothes(may be sponsored), greet tons of unruly fans/paz, check in and get onto plane. It may sound simple but it is no. The badly managed crowds are noisy and invasive. The only moment he can rest his brain is during check in. What the security team is doing should be watched by his agency's staff and also his manager. Not him. He does not have to do so many people's work. He pays his agency lots of money to manage that.

Ultimately, the one at fault here is his agency, they are at fault for not taking full responsibility in this palaver. They need to even answer to Byun Woo Seok why are they not managing his brand properly! Why is damage control done so immaturely, to allow this situation to escalate to this level is so unnessacary. Is his agency trying to gas-light Byun Woo Seok into thinking he is partly at fault? I certainly hope not.

I have dyslexia thus excuse some typos and spelling error.

      • "His agency trying to gas-light Byun Woo Seok into thinking he is partly at fault"? Sorry, what? How do you even come to that?

      • @Olesya1

It’s not impossible. I have known some idol agencies that turns the member against each other so they won’t band up and leave the agency. Bws agency media play is usually centered on how grateful bws to them and how close he is to the ceo. You know this pattern? Lee seunggi agency.

  • Aww poor guy..probably there should be a new star guidelines .This guy is just doing his best he can ,but still controversies still happen

    • How is any of this his fault?I think he’s new to this kind of popularity. His agency is not leading him well. He needs to switch agencies because this time in his career is crucial. He needs a good mentor to guide him because his agency is doing a terrible job.
Did someone say that he’s being criticized for being too nice to his fans. His security that day at the airport must not be very experienced in guarding a big star with that many fans at the airport. They really went overboard. I’m not sure he was even fully aware of what they were doing around him. On his return ar the airport there was literally three little guys guarding him. I can’t understand why this is a scandal. The next role he plays should also be a romantic comedy. It’s not the right time to challenge his acting skills till he’s better established.
Plus I would love to see him in a role similar to his Lovely Runner character. He does so well as a love interest and I can just stare at him every episode.
Then after he’s doing really well again he should branch out to other characters.
I wish people would not be so harsh on him. He definitely doesn’t deserve all this. I will like forward to his next drama. So give the guy a break and quit slandering him. It’s disgusting

  • What wrong with you people, Byeon Woo Seok did nothing wrong I meant I know nothing about your culture but I think it wrong but you treat your stars. Those people at the airport there are adults and they should conduct themselves as adult the person that file that complaint the small minded Petty person who want to keep nothing but mess up I don't know why you're trying to hurt a sweet kind person but something wrong with you instead of letting it go you continue to make a mountain out of molehill and to me that just plain evil, he work so hard to get where he is today and y'all trying to tear him down. stop trying to mess people up if you can't build them up don't tear down.

  • Lesson learned from this fiasco. AVOID OVEREXPOSURE. The same fans who were praising him to the skies are now vilifying him for something that could rightly or wrongly be attributed to his team and other external factors. If he had done limited fan service, and made himself more exclusive, those who wanted to criticize him would have still done so, but it would not have mounted such a snowball effect of loud detractors turning against him.

I don't believe he is at fault personally, but I would gladly blame his team for not managing him properly. There are other routes they could have taken for him when they saw that the airport had become crowded over time due to his increasing fame. Either use a VIP walkway, or keep his itinerary secret enough from the public. Other more popular celebrities are able to keep their travel plans low key, so I'm sure they could have managed. Now he has become a punching bag for everyone in Korea who feel bad about their lives and need an online target. You would think they would have learned by now to keep their criticism and intrusion to a minimum after the bad effects it has had on celebrities over the years. But the witch hunt often doesn't stop until something catastrophic happens. smh.

And for anyone who wishes to accuse me of defending my oppa - I'm not his fan, though I liked his acting in Lovely Runner. But there is a big difference between correcting a celebrity when they have taken a misstep, and witch-hunting a celebrity. He hasn't committed any major or egregious crime. It's high time to put fiasco to rest.

    • I dont think only his fans will speak for him..it is just common sense for others to do so...
I only watched one drama of him...the one I like is female lead. Byun Woo Seok does nothing for me. But for this incident that is not his fault, but for it to escalate is just ridiculous. Damage control badly done.
But it is time to move on as all these media attention in SK are just dragging this longer. Time to target worthy news.

      • I'm not his fan at all. I used to be critical of his looks that are not to my liking and his fans fired back. LOL. But I think it's pretty wrong and going overboard to shift blame to BWS.

You'd see quite a few the same ppl who relentlessly attacked him in each related post. That appears strange to me. They sounded as if they had been the victims at the airport under the excessive security measures too. LOL.

  • I'm a fan and I would side with Byeon Woo Seok. But practically speaking, even if I am not a fan. I would still side with Byeon Woo Seok.

This issue is just being blown out of proportion. I think the media has no newsworthy thing to write about, that is why everyone is hyping about the airport scandal. I mean, with all the apologies, they still won't accept it?!?

Byeon Woo Seok is innocent. Byeon Woo Seok is a person. He gets hurt also. I believe he feels sorry also for what happened to those who felt offended. I believe he is not arrogant nor feeling proud. But rather meek and humble, as well as understanding, As you will see in his recent behavior.

Its hard to please everybody.... And everybody is trying to find fault.
The media, the anti- fans, the airport officials, even the government officials. Everyone involved is trying to push blame to somebody else.
Instead of pushing the blame, can everyone accept responsibility for their own mistakes?!? Please stop pointing fingers...

The bodyguards already apologised, the security bodyguards agency already apologised, Byeon Woo Seok's agency already apologized. Is that not enough?!?

How about the airport officials who also made mistakes? When are you going to apologize? For not having enough manpower designated when you know Byeon Woo Seok would be there. For not being ble to improve the situation at the airport. I mean after how many trips to the airport every time Byeon Woo Seok comes and goes.
It does not matter if Byeon Woo Seok gives fan service or not. The matter is security.

Other countries treat him better than his own people. How sad is that? Pls cherish your own actors. And not the opposite.

I hope ,as well as, many people in the world hope. Pls end this Fiasco already and move on with your lives.. Do not destroy a person's Career needlessly!!!

    Thank you!!

  • he will be fine. people who did much worse are promoting just fine. knetz will move on when they find their next target. also, there is a video from dispatch showing the bodyguard talking to the airport security, who claimed no one was informed lol.

i was told that celebrities aren't along to use the VIP route it's only for representatives of the country. you can't even use to pay to use it. if that's true then how was he at fault? the airport basically parades these celebrities to their stalkers.

    • @Yuhui
I can't completely agree with your last sentence. Airport can be unbothered by stalkers problem, but celebrities releaving time of their departure to the fans and to the journalists themselves, although they know about this parade.

  • Witch hunt continues......LOL

Koala! Can I say you also have a part in the negative publicity of BWS? Aren't K fans visiting this site not fed up with non-stop negative publicity of BWS with a boring article like this speculating negative impact on his CF? Or some are hyped to just even imagine that would happen!!!?? LOL. When will be the end of his airport tale?

Ok, his bodyguard or his agency or himself has made a "HUUUUUGE" faux pas. We got it! And they apologized. So that should be it! It's not their problem if ppl don't take their public apologies well. Can ppl just move on? Or are you dreaming hard being hurt badly by his scandal in your nightmare so that there's no way for you guys to let go of this guy? LMAO.

Can just move on to other K drama updates PLZ? LOL.

    • While I firmly believe Koala can post whatever she wants, I agree with you that I have major BWS + airport news fatigue. This k-ent article didn't even offer any new info or actual insight. It merely says a bunch of vague stuff like he's not likely he'll lose CF deals... and....? These articles are beating a dead horse at this point.
