K-actor Lee Seon Kyun’s Last Two Movies Project Silence and The Land of Happiness Released During Summer of 2024 as Posthumous Works

Next week the K-movie The Land of Happiness will arrive in South Korean theaters and with it conclude the acting career of top actor Lee Seon Kyun. It is the last project in his oeuvre and the second to last movie Project Silence was released last month in July. It’s been a bad summer in the SK box office and Project Silence didn’t do well and not much is expected of The Land of Happiness either, but this does feel like the final closure for the cut short life and career of Lee Seon Kyun, who passed away last December 2023 so only 8 months ago. Thank you for all the great dramas and movies and memories to this very talented actor.

  • He was a very good actor. Such a loss. I can just imagine how his family feels seeing him alive in these movies, perhaps they're very grateful for them, like bitter-sweet. May he continue to rest in peace

  • Sounds so non scandalous, life cut short. I would have written before he was hounded to death and took his own life.

  • Such a loss. People forget too soon and move on. In this fast moving world, nobody really cares after a while about what he did or didn't do and a life was taken as a result. I wish he knew that it's nothing.

  • i rewatch my ajusshi on netflix all the time because it's my favourite k drama.

i hope asians in asia can find ways to escape trauma and shame based cultural hammers.

    • Very difficult, specifically for those cultures deeply influenced by
Confucianism. There're no teachings or doctrines in Confucianism regarding forgiveness. I read and memorized Confucianism doctrines in Chinese almost everyday for years under the school education. I found Nothing regarding forgiveness. Therefore, wrong doers or suspicious wrong doers are always treated mercilessly in those Asian societies.

  • Feel so poignant when reading that sentence "....conclude the acting career of top actor Lee Seon Kyun".

Such a heartbreaking ending. He was a truly phenomenal actor and wonder how far he could go if he made it passed 50 and 60. Such an unnecessary loss but I hope both him and his family could finally found peace.
