jTBC Sports and Police Drama Good Boy Releases Great First Stills of Leads Park Bo Gum and Kim So Hyun

jTBC must be thanking their lucky stars that the start of its promos for upcoming sports and police procedural drama Good Boy coincidences with the Paris Olympics, what with the leads all being Olympic gold medalists turned cops. The first drama stills are out showing Park Bo Gum in action and winning his boxing gold medal and also Kim So Hyun as a sharpshooter in competition. Both look so good and believable in their roles, it helps that Park Bo Gum is rocking some serious back muscles and biceps for this role. Never thought my Taek could go from genius Go player to top boxer but in the world of acting all it takes is the right actor and the arrival of new roles.

  • Ma boy and ma girl! Please be good!! I know they're gonna work their acting magic, but please come through, story!

    • In case anyone is still curious about OTT platform the drama is confirmed to air on Prime Video. Once again the theory about Netflix blacklist KSH is proven true. Every PBG drama and movie has been picked up by Netflix and they would never dare to reject this combination of writer, director and actor if not for KSH. I would however praise the drama, casts and production crew for agreeing to work with KSH despite knowing they would miss out on Netflix. Glad they have faith in her despite it all.

The link below is an official PR document by SLL the production house for JTBC. It confirms Prime Video. The only Sat-Sun drama from JTBC to not go to Netflix.

      • Hmmm... I think Netflix not stupid enough because something like that.

I think it still not sure if Prime will be their fix OTT, several days ago it said Disney+. When they recruit the support cast, they also mention it will be Netflix.

So if the official news isnt come yet, i will not fully believe it 🤗

      • Thanks @Meme Prime is a surprise! I don't think most people even factored that in the platform considerations. What is going on with KSH and Netfix? Very interesting to read that report too from a business perspective. It gives a lot of insight into the K-drama/film industry.

      • @Meme, why does Netflix blacklist KSH? Netflix has had plenty of flops with actors such as Song Kang who can't act. LOL.

      • That is baseless. KSH still have a lot of shows in Netflix. Also, it will be a big issue in Korea if that is true. And if that is true, no production companies will ever offer jobs to KSH. Also, most production companies are hesitant in selling their shows to Netflix because the offering price is very low as compared to other platforms.

      • There’s a whole bunch of comments in this thread that are frankly eyeball rolling, but the way THIS particular comment is forcefully put forth as if it is true while being so inaccurate just deeply annoys me.

        1) JTBC and Netflix signed a multi-year distribution deal in 2021 and that has evidently come to an end. Back then, JTBC was the up and comer against tVn and this worked in their favour for international distribution and presence. However, as mentioned, Netflix will lowball broadcast companies if possible so it’s totally fair for JTBC to explore other distributors.
        2) Prime Video recently announced that they were upping their investment significantly into the platform with an eye to diversify their content offerings to be more global and to cater to wider demographics including the younger audiences. This drama has 2 young leads with international bases, a strong ensemble cast, a very on trend premise (Olympics!) and has both comedy and romance.
        3) Good Boy is JTBC’s tentpole drama for the 2nd half of the year. It makes total sense for them to shop this around and sell it to the highest bidder. Business is business, whatever makes them money and profits is what is going to happen.

@Meme, if you want to be a hater and spout nonsense as “truth”, please at least put in some effort. Your comment shows a complete lack of research, even less critical thought and a poor understanding of the industry.
PBG has always come across as a really lovely person; and I’m sure that he would not condone tearing down his costars with conspiracy theories to build him up as something that is ok to do. Do better. Be better.

      • @AIIG: You make lot of sensible and relevant points about the business and finance side. I do find it very hard to believe that Netflix has beef with KSH of all people as that would make her practically unemployable. Maybe it's just coincidence that she hasn't had any NF projects

      • @AllG I agree with @Sunny, your comment is very sensible and I admit I haven't thought of that. You brought up really good points. I usually don't accuse people of being a hater, but @Meme's wording didn't sit right with me right off the bat, and it sounded off to me. Her sentence, “Every PBG drama and movie had been picked up by Netflix and they would never dare to reject this combination of writer, director and actor if not for KSH”, emphasis on “if not for KSH”, the wording sounds like she wants people, especially PBG fans, to blame KSH that their fave's drama won't be on Netflix. Yeah, she's probably a hater who wants PBG fans and other cast members' fans to hate on KSH. Thanks for bringing a new perspective about this whole Netlix blacklisting issue

      • @AIIG, I enjoy reading the kind of information/analysis you provided, It makes a lot more sense than other fictional speculations.

I've been watching the dramas of both PBG and KSH lately. I can't fathom anyone of these two would be blacklisted by any streaming platforms. It's just nonsensical from business perspectives. All the management and investors want to make money. Why is Netflix an exception? LOL.

  • I seriously - seriously, seriously - want to sweep those bangs off her forehead, and particularly her eyes LOL.

Other than that, it looks really good! I hope the script is strong too. A good sports drama can really bring in the feels, but can also fall so flat that its plain boring.

    • Look when KSH goes without bangs she gets major criticism for her looks in South Korea. Even her so called bangles looks all come with side swept bags. They accept HGI but hate on KSH. Her pre IMY days many people called her ugly. If she feels more confident with bangs then let it go. You’ll never see her experiment with other styles because she doesn’t think those styles look good on her. If this is what makes her happy then this is what everyone as fans needs to get used to and accept. Why would you want her to get called out for being ugly? She doesn’t need that added stress in her life.

      • She used to get hate comments from antis but I have not heard any kind of criticism from Korea for her bangless look. KSH had bangless look in RWTMR and Love alarm in recent times and I haven't seen any such article regarding criticism for her bangless hairstyle from Korea.

      • As a KSH fan, chill lol, it's just an opinion. I'm KSH fan too, but we can have her opinions about her look too. Just because we state our opinion doesn't mean we're forcing her to do something she doesn't want to. She doesn't even know this blog or everyone here exist lol

      • If others can actually decide on her hair style, they would have asked for those bangs to be chopped off her forehead years ago. Just go read the previous post on this drama to know. Alas, none of us do decide. Curious, why do fans having an opinion on her hairstyle for a drama seem to be a problem to YOU?

      • @monks, I don't see any problem with you asking a legit question. Why did ppl have problems with you asking why there're problems with her hair styles? The problem is there are no problems. Much ado! LOL.

    • Same thoughts, I'm absolutely STOKED about everything in this drama— the stellar cast (KSH and PBG is one dream pairing lol), the plot, the PD, writer, etc. EXCEPT KSH's hair lol. I know, it's such a silly thing to care about, but I just wish she had a different hairstyle from her previous two dramas, because she's starting to be like PMY who has looked the same in her recent dramas since WTWSK. I know her character is labeled a “shooting goddess” who's known for her beauty so they want to emphasize her beauty even more (though she's obviously already very beautiful) and they don't want her to look too rugged, but they could've gone for curtain bangs, side bangs, just anything other than the full bangs 😑

She had her hair pulled back in RWTMR and she looked majestic. She should do that more often. I liked her hair in the school flashback scene in My Lovely Liar too. But anyway, can't wait for this drama nonetheless!

      • Same here. The character's nickname is "shooting goddess" but it’s as if KSH just took off her school uniform from Serendipity then donned an Olympic shooter’s attire and grabbed a rifle for Good Boy all in one go. Even in the 7th photo where she adjusts her bun, her previous character is still evident. Sometimes the distinction among an actor’s roles won’t rely on acting skills alone, there have to be changes in the styling (especially when the role requires a certain level of aura and visuals) or else the actor can come across as repetitive at some point. On the other hand, PBG had impressive and goosebumps-inducing still cuts as well as LSY whose photos just got released today.

  • Almost finished Record of Youth, I think I'm becoming a fan of PBG. ROY appeared to be a great fan service with all the merits and charm of PBG in display as an actor. LOL. People whined about RoY being a dud perhaps mainly due to lack of romance. I fast forwarded and skipped the most part of school romance in Lovely Runner, but amazingly I have not skipped one single scene of RoY given how many storylines fell so flat with bland acting from the FL, Park So Dam, and her tepid chemistry with PBG.

I can foresee PBG to nail this role in Good Boy if there is enough story development revolving around him as in RoY.

    • I think the problem wasn't the lack of romance, it was that the romance was lacking lol! If the drama had dropped their boring couple scenes, they had remained friends and developed PSD's storyline more so she had something to do in the second half besides be a miserable girlfriend the drama would have had a better reception.

PBG is really good in the drama apart from the dull couple scenes where he just seems to be going through the motions.

      • I can't disagree with fans' complaints about PSD's acting. She is weird for both her character and acting. She appeared to me not into that romantic relationship and her said infatuation for PBG's character (her idol) came so involuntary. She's as stale as flat soda sitting open in the air for too long. And her sleepy eyes made me bored even more. LOL.

I even wonder if she had any tension with PBG in real life. LOL. She looked kinda tense, not relaxed, in those scenes with PBG. Perhaps she is good in other dramas, definitely not this one. I can't give her any credits.

      • @Somebody: LOL at your detailed descriptions of PSD's dull performance but I agree she was so flat. Unfortunately, it didn't leave a good impression of her as an actress. A very disappointing follow-up to her performance in Parasite.

      • @Sunny, I was disappointed at PSD cos I did hear positive comments about her. But her acting throughout the entire drama just showed otherwise. RoY is the only drama of hers I've ever watched though.

  • I hope there will be something meaningfull with her bang, because i see none of these shooter atlet have bang. Even if they have it they will use hairpin/headband.

Something like... She will clip her hair when she got serious, etc.

Whatever, i just hope this drama will success and and her character will love by many viewer.

And after GB i hope she will stop doing romance drama for a while. Because i really bother with people who said she always do the same character again and again. They forget all her different character, even her recent character in MLL and SE is different.

All the best for her and happy 16th debut anniversary, Sohyun.

    • Her bangs make her comfortable so let it go. Nobody is forcing this look on her. Don’t forget she has a strong insecurity about her forehead and has often received criticism from Korean about her “ugly” forehead. It doesn’t fit their beauty standards and if KSH wants to conform to their beauty standards then let her. Even KNY and JJH never ever experiment with their hairstyles. Some people are more comfortable that way so let it go.

      • It's funny you mention her forehead not fitting Korean beauty standards when Korean celebrities are getting forehead implants to get a rounded forehead like hers for that Barbie-like side profile lol. Most Koreans have a flat forehead naturally while KSH naturally has that dome-like forehead that Koreans like so much. I mentioned this on another comment but her forehead really was only big when she was a kid and a teenager (children's faces usually have larger foreheads with their features concentrated in the lower part of their faces). But over the years, it has become proportional to her face and its size really isn't an issue any more. She's also been praised by Koreans for her visuals during her appearances without bangs (red carpet appearances, airport pics, etc.), so I think it goes without saying Koreans don't find it “ugly” anymore. But it's understandable if she has developed an insecurity over it. I myself is still insecure because of certain comments I received on my looks as a child

    • Yup, people only remember her more mainstream romance dramas, sadly. But the fact is she already did a variety of genres: family (Suspicious Housekeeper),thriller (Reset and Nightmare High), melodrama (We All Cry Differently, Missing You, etc.), fantasy (Goblin), horror-comedy (Bring it on Ghost), non-romance sageuk (The Last Princess), a more serious sageuk (River Where the Moon Rises), etc.

I too wish that moving forward, she'll avoid or at least choose minimal romance dramas after GB, just to remind everyone of her versatility. Purely romance dramas bring her nothing but hate. Until now, I still can't believe that she got hate just because her character chose a male lead over the fan favorite one 🤦‍♀️

One comment on another article in this site pointed out that Kim Go Eun is making smart decisions of choosing mostly female-centric dramas so she's free from fan wars and silly shipping wars. I agree and I wish KSH would do the same. Maybe she'll find her niche in action-oriented dramas, ala Ha Ji Won? I don't know, but she definitely should explore more genres as a lead actress. Hope to see her in something like The Glory soon. Female Gen Z drama watchers, especially, like seeing actresses choose female-centric dramas, so I'm sure doing so will boost her popularity with the younger gen

      • Why do people keep talking about her taking more diverse genres or stop doing romance as if she has a choice. Do you honestly believe prestige projects or action/ thriller genres are even being offered to her and she is purposely choosing romance? She was on a 2 year break and only got offered two romance drama in that time. Her upcoming drama with PBG is the only time she was offered a truly different role and it’s surprising that she did but let’s not look a gift horse in the mouth. It’s most likely she won’t have much screen time in her upcoming drama as PBG is the main star and all the characters revolve around which I’m sure KSH fans will crib about again. Romance dramas are also female centric but her most well received drama till now is TTON means that people like KSH more as a support to the male lead. RWTMR has such a small audience base it’s laughable and NIw got the most recognition and praise for it. His popularity in Japan comes primary from this drama and later from MMH. If you really want to examine since when KSH has been getting hate then it started all the way back in 2017 with RMTM and LA just exposed her to a much bigger audience base who hated her acting style or looks or for not choosing the male lead. Even if KSH does somehow manage to land a female centric thriller role it is highly likely people will still dislike her and her acting. Once someone’s mind is made it won’t change much. You just have to accept that KSH will never be the KTR or KGE level of popular and beloved nor will she ever get offered the type of scripts that they do. Learn to just ignore the haters and continue to enjoy watching her in whatever role she does. People who don’t like her never will and in her case this happens to be a large majority of people who just don’t vibe with her. Let it be and enjoy her acting in peace. I’m just glad she’s still getting drama offers whatever they might be. In this industry people can always get wiped out over night. Look at HJW once the most sought after actress and now all she has is flops and barely gets acting offers and none of them are prestige roles.

      • I think knetz itself also surprise with versatility of her filmografi and she still young but never fail to nail her role. They also talk about her chemistry with every actor she work with.

She just need good script and right project to elevated her status, like PEB. So she can get better script for her future project.

It actually hard for me to like an actress/actor (other than their work) because i think it only their work image, except Sohyun. Maybe it also her work image, but it still amazing for her to maintain her image without any scandal for 16yrs.

From several staff she also know for her good attitude, even a reporter in my country also said she so polite when he got a chance to interview her.

That why i always rooting for her success ❤️

She also want to became comfort actress and acting until get old with her viewer. Haha, her word make me looking forward for the future when i think this world is stresful enough.

      • Same, I rarely stan actors and actresses but there's something special about So Hyun lol. Obviously, we don't know celebrities' real personality, but anyone who worked with her had nothing but praise for her good personality, saying things like she makes the set brighter and more energetic because she's always smiling despite her hectic schedule. A lot of rookie actors said they also learned a lot from her when it comes to acting even tho she's younger than them. And yes she's a very versatile actress. Even as a kid, she already played a villain role, only to switch seamlessly to playing innocent-looking young versions of adult lead actresses. Shame new kdrama watchers mostly just know her for her romance dramas. They should explore her filmography first before saying that she only play the same roles 😑

  • Finally looking like PBG has a potential win on his hands after a long string of duds dating pre-military days. He hasn’t had a good drama since Moonlight but this might be it! He so looks the part!

KSH on the other hand… I love her but it’s hard to take her seriously in these stills when her hair is covering parts of her eyes while she SHOOTS a target as an OLYMPIC athlete. Why is she not at least wearing a head band tennis players style? Like how does this look make any practical sense for her role? Good. God. 🤦🏼‍♀️

  • My girl looks really cool! (although I'm not a fan of the bangs, as most everyone here). She really nails this type of roles, just look at that fierce look in her eyes! Wish she takes more roles like this. First time seeing PBG looking like this too, unlike his usual clean, pretty boy look. Everything about this drama feels fresh and exciting so far. Hope it meets my expectations! Excited to see Lee Sang Yi too

  • The marketing team for this drama are good! They were waiting for the Olympics to promote the drama

I was lamenting in the previous post that it doesn't look like PBG has made any changes to his pretty visuals to fit the role of a boxer so I am pleasantly surprised by these stills as he definitely looks a lot more rough and rugged. I hope he maintains it for the drama.

I am so effing tired of those full bangs/fringe on KSH. Feels like she has the same hair in every drama and they are particularly egregious for an Olympic shooter. No female shooter is going to compete with those nonsense things hanging around their eyes and face. If you look at the Olympic shooters in Paris they all wear hair clips, headbands, part their hair to the side or wear visors/hats to make sure their hair is out of their face. Heck, look at all the other competitors next to KSH in the picture and you can see how out of place her hair looks.

    • People who stan Kim SoHyun or claim to be her fans should just accept the fact that she won’t ever change her hair. This is most probably her favourite look and she’s hell bent on not looking unattractive on camera. This is her maximum capacity. We have to accept it.

      • But she's in NO WAY unattractive without bangs, so I don't understand why you said she's "hell bent on not looking unattractive on camera." If anything, she's like 100x more beautiful without bangs (for anyone who don't believe me, feel free to check her out in Love Alarm season 1, River Where the Moon Rises, her Samsung Securities CF, and her cameo appearance in the ending scene of While You Were Sleeping- she had no bangs in those and she looked much more beautiful and her face looked much brighter). About the bangs probably being her favorite hairstyle, yeah, that's a valid point lol.

For the record, I don't want her to do anything she doesn't want to or feel pressured by fans or anything, just sharing my opinion here because it's not like she'll read our discussion here anyway lol

  • I am gonna sound like a hater but KSH seriously need to let go of that bangs for some time. It specially does not make sense for this drama since she is playing a shooter and those bangs are gonna distract while shooting. It's good that she is choosing non romance drama this time and I hope she does for a few years.

She needs to stay far from romance drama for some year. I had a lot more expectation for SE drama but the execution of this drama is letting me down. Her last MLL drama was a huge dissapointment too. In both these drama, she does not have much to do. Her last drama before this which was RWTMR was also a disappointment because of the writing.

I really hope the writing in good boy is better and she has scope to show her acting talent.

  • Some people whined about Serendipity's Embrace. I love that drama so far with 4 eps. KSH is so cute in every moment with Chae Jong Hyeop together. It rarely happened to me about anything linked to school romance cos I easily get bored of teen dramas.

Woohoo! I just binged and wrapped up Record of Youth before coming up here. I'd never liked PBG before except for his visuals. LOL. He impressed me in RoY nonetheless even this drama had one of the most boring love stories in the Kdrama history. I had a fun time watching him being thuggish and violent. I fell in love with his acting as a mafia. LOL. Hopefully he reprised similar action scenes in Good Boy. I'm sure I'd have a blast. LOL

    • As much as I like seeing KSH in non-romance dramas, I'm loving SE as well! Don't get what the complaints are about, but eh, just different tastes, I guess? The kiss scene was so heart-fluttering and I love the beach scene too. I love that Hong Joo's best friend was supportive of Hong Joo and Hoo Young even tho she likes him. The ex was just kind of annoying tho, I really don't care about his sob story, he still left her and had the nerve to say “We didn't break up”? Lol.
But yeah, I'm loving everything about the drama, from the cozy, autumny backdrop to the OST.

      • They have such cute chemistry that I wouldn't be surprised if they dated in real life. OK, I'm talking like a CP shipper that I usually decry. LMAO. I feel that Chae Jong-hyeop was into KSH very much in SE. I was fond of CJH in Castaway Diva perhaps due to his ML halo. LOL. But I didn't see strong chemistry between him and my fave Park Eun-bin in CD.

Well just my speculation. Sometimes I did see actors had stronger chemistry with their FLs cos the women were prettier. LOL. All hail to KSH's visuals! 😉

      • @Somebody @Summertime Totally agree with everything you both said!

@Somebody I too am usually not a shipper for drama couples but I would be a liar if I say I didn't blush and giggle like a fool watching while KSH and CJH interact in real life lol. They're one of the cutest KDrama couples in recent years for me and are totally believable as a couple!

      • I'm back to rave about the fluttery kisses in the new eps. I don't recall I've ever been the one for hot sizzling scenes. But these two kids' intimate scenes made this married ajumma with kids render a lot of imagination in her head. LMAO.

@Nelly, you're right! They are totally believable as a couple.....in honeymoon mode. LOL.

  • Their hairstyles are a bit turn off to me. Boxers and sharpshooters don't have hairstyles that can get in their eyes and hinder the view.
It's such detail for sportsmens that can be easily fixed by stylist.
Just take your bangs off while shooting with KSH and style your hair differently with PBG, it's easy and will make athletes look like athletes in the drama about athletes with olympic medals.
