Tax Evasion Tip Off Person on the Song Zu Er Scandal Claims She Has Been Confirmed to Owe Back Taxes after Investigation

There is new development in the C-actress Song Zu Er tax evasion scandal which has been silent for the past year as the authorities were reportedly investigating. Today the person who tipped it off claims to have gotten a call from the tax authorities thanking him for the tip off and sharing that the case has come to a conclusion with Song Zu Er found to owe more than $300,000 USD in unpaid taxes. If this is true then her career is definitively over, but her agency released a statement right after that the rumor is false and she has not been found to have evaded taxes. I read the statement and found the wording interesting in that it says “she has not been found to have evaded taxes” which could still be true that her agency/production office has and/or also that she owes unpaid taxes but it was found to be incorrect assessments rather than intentional evasion. Regardless it’s still a disappointment that her two finished dramas The Prisoner of Beauty and The Demon Hunter’s Romance will not air.

  • With the statement from her studio fans are already jubilation that she is innocent. So her show might air, the person who tip off her tax invasion also put online after her studio statement is that, she cheated on her college entrance examinations ( bribery) involved. Studio has also denied that, hopefully it true because that a very serious allegations to put on her. Whatever she did or her family might have done to that person is serious because that person is targeting her hard. Anyway we will see how this play out.

      • That even scary if that is the truth, because it show that, the person was personal with them, which means he would have know certain private matters concerning them but it still rumours anyway, it only her and her family who knows the truth.
@ Lilith, do the tax authorities needs to clarify their statement before she is officially cleared because I know they did it for the other actors but the way her studio put down her statement is why I asked, it sounded like a final decision.

      • @Mercy I honestly don't know. Based on past cases, the Chinese authorities select only 1 or 2 serious offenders (some other factors may also be involved) to make an example out of them (like Fan Bingbing and Deng Lun) while the rest will be fine as long as they pay up their owed taxes. SZE seems to be classified as "the rest", perhaps her tax scandal blowing up was the work of the ex-boyfriend due to personal feuds, not the authorities.

It also seems to me like the investors of her dramas put in effort to save her (and their money). But this new allegations of college entrance exams bribery is more serious for her now as it involves government officials.

      • @ Lilith, ok but do we have the 'rest',those who have invaded tax with the once I know , is those u have mentioned.

    • @ somebody, u r right, especially if they r paying penalties in addition to the taxes they own. The way I see it, is that once an actor have issues like this , it might be difficult to get investment for their shows going forward and even work because some investors may not take the risk of the uncertainty that will be associated with them, (heard because of the poor performance this year in dramaland, investors r being critical on what show they will invest on) that is why is difficult for them to make a comeback. Every person story is different, so who knows for her.

  • Earlier, I read an article about her name being cleared and her former manager(fired since 2020) was at fault. Now, I am really confused whether she is still in legal trouble. I watched her on Legally Romance and there was a scene there where she was crying for her Dad that made me feel for her character. I hope she doesn't get cancelled because there's just something about her that tugs at your heartstrings.

    • If her accounts keep being closed and the ban isnt lifted then she prb is still in legal trouble,CCP usually gives tax evaders a year to pay their taxes back after the final warning, if they pay that their name will be cleared and she will have no record and I think this what really happened in her case and thats why her agency made a bold statement.

  • That dollar amount sounds negligible compared with the taxes on her complete career earnings and definitely not like an amount that screams deliberate wrong-doing on a large scale. I could be wrong of course, but it just doesn't seem an amount worth risking a career like hers over.

Also, can someone in the know maybe shed a bit more light on this whole backpay of taxes in China issue?
I remember reading in a Deng Lun article here (or might have been an article on dramapanda about a different female artist in similar circumstances) that C-citizens and celebrities as well are actually contacted privately the first time they are found with discrepancies in the management/payment of taxes and are given a chance to make good (pay back owed taxes and penalties) without it all exploding in the public arena. In that case, people/celebrities who end up crucified publicly as tax offenders are actually repeat offenders (who got caught for the second time) or those unrepentant after being found the first time.
If that's true, and Song Zuer is on her first offense, it might be the public scandal is mostly due to the person trying to ruin her, but the tax service itself might still forgive her this one time.

  • The new development concerning her case from other sources, apparently the person who tipped off her tax invasion and her cheating on college entrance exams have posted documents on her cheating her exams and ss of SZR mom chatbox has evidence to prove his accusations.

  • To lose your career over pennies is so ridiculous. If the amount is that small, I doubt it’s intentional.

    • She is still small actress,i doubt she made that much of money, that amount can buy her a small property in Shanghai

  • Tax authorities need to release the official verdict. Doesn’t matter what her agency or the melon account says. Her shows wouldn’t be allowed to air just based on her agency statement.

  • Hold on, the tipster was given information about how much was owed for tax evasion by the government?? That doesn’t sound fishy?? Why would the government just casually give this info away, especially to a tipster? That’s strange…😆

  • I thought the person that managed her account was held responsible, she worked with tax office to help with her paperwork and paid the fines needed. Now she is free...

Goodness, I will have to see what happens to her after to know what will happen..
