Wei Da Xun Replaces Zhang Wan Yi as Male Lead on Serious Thriller C-drama A Sinless Person

Well a few bad outings in a short while can definitely affect a C-stars standing and actor Zhang Wan Yi is on the experiencing end of one o those bad breaks. C-ent casting rumor has it that he has been replaced as the male lead of the thriller C-drama A Sinless Person (无罪之身) by Wei Da Xun. This drama was all but confirmed and in the pocket for Zhang Wan Yi until this month and a serious of less than stellar responses to his recent works. His male lead in Lost You Forever Part 2 was deemed lacking in screen presence, his drama Are You the One was not the hit it needed to be, and his recent variety show appearance in a last ditch effort to win fans and buzz instead made him come across as dull and boring in his real life personality which is the death knell in variety guests. As such, he’s been last minute replaced by Wei Da Xun for A Sinless Person and the female lead will remain Sun Qian.

  • His acting in romantic scenes were heavily criticized. His eyes are unfocused and his smile is unnatural there.

He is better in non-romantic scenes which this thriller should be. But WDX has a great mature, dark tortured vibe that would also be a good fit.

Sun Qian is cute. I don't know about thriller for her.

  • Seriously? A lot of actors were rumored to act in that drama and even a well-known entertainment blogger dismissed that Zhang Wan Yi was even involved in this project

All are just rumors and people act like he is now in deep trouble.

The guy just finished filming Si Jin, sang Gravity for 75th anniversary of the founding of new China (he was asked to sing), won Feitian Award with the whole screw of "A long way home" (one among 16 best dramas). He is now busy with brand activities during his filming gap. Well he will be fine.

    • I agree. I think the casting of ZWY was probably rumored and not actually cast. This is an iQiyi drama and ZWY clearly has some association with Tencent.

I don't understand the statement that ZWY has had poor response to his last performances. He was far more popular after LYF2, and Are You the One? brought him a ton of fans and traffic. I saw a recent video where he made the mistake of autographing something, and was immediately mobbed with people waving pics for him to sign -- and he looked happily surprised at all the fans.

  • I don't know about WDX or have interest in this crime thriller. I don't disagree with the criticism of ZWY's onscreen performance though. ZWY was the best ML among the three in Lost You Forever, IMO. But he creeped me out in I Know I Love You with his intensive stares on the FL and creepy lines as well (the writer to blame though). LOL. His recent drama Are You the One magnified his weakness of flimsy physique. For an actor with limited visuals like him, I think he has to wisely select scripts to work with in order to get his own niche. He isn't someone who can't act.

  • I thought ZWY did well in 'Are You The One?', but I will admit that in some scenes his smile seemed pasted on and his eye off focus. However, I enjoyed his performance as a whole and the drama is one I love. But I believe actors have to try different genres to see what their best fit is. If they don't try, they will become pigeon-holed into a niche and that is not good for any actor. The good ones take risks with their acting, they learn from their mistakes and improve with each successive project. I still think that with objective criticism from his past works, he can learn and grow, because he is quite talented.

'Are You The One?' might not be an overnight sensation like some other C-dramas, it is much very like 'Blossoms in Adversity' which didn't attract a lot of buzz when it first aired, but by word of mouth, slowly grew to garner much praise later on.

  • Lol and what did Wei Da Xun do to prove he's more bankable than Zhang Wan Yi? What project did he carry based on his reputation and aura?
Sorry but I'm not buying this

    • Took me a while to recognize him because I have never seen his dramas, but I had seen lots of him on bilibili mashups because he seems to have gained a lot of attention from netizens for his role in the cursed Fireworks of My Heart. It's not unusual for supporting actors to land lead roles if they have a standout role that is loved by the audience.

      • That's the thing though. What notable work has he had since Fireworks Of My Heart? Why would investors prefer him to Zhang Wan Yi who's had several releases this year and proved his mettle as a lead? LYF2 still did good numbers, and AYTO did moderately well despite the lack of traffic stars among the cast.
As a producer, I'd rather bet on Zhang Wan Yi who's slowly rising than Wei Da Xun who still has to prove he can carry a project on his own

    • MTE.
I heard, WDX is the 2nd rich generation, and he's now dating Qin Lan. Aside from this, as an entertainer in variety shows. He hasnt landed any male lead role, right? If this one is his then congratulations.

Despite his acting chops in romantic department, ZWY has proved his worth in many dramas. In LYF s2, he was amazing. Of course, Tan JianCi was unbeatable but ZWY wasnt bad at all. Comparing to Deng Wei. So idk why people criticized his acting in LYF s2.

  • OR ZWY was never committed to begin with... Why do we have to create these elaborate stories for casting like this that pit actors and actresses against each other all the time?

His dramas might not have been hits, but it's not like they were the biggest flops either. He's a great dramatic serious actor, so romance and comedy probably isn't his strong suit. Maybe he'll get better.

    • So true about the casting rumors. Why pit them against each other like that?

There is so much involved with casting - not all actors are available at just the right time and not all actors cost the same to hire. The casting folks have to balance schedules with bankability and cost. Maybe his name floated around, but negotiations fell through. I feel like casting stuff in Hollywood and even in kdramas is more behind-closed-doors, and we don't hear much until it's a done deal. The cdrama casting rumor mill seems to start really early.

ZWY was hilarious in Are You the One and surprised me with his knack for physical comedy. I like Wei Da Xun from before the Fireworks drama and am happy for him getting recognition.

  • Zhang Wanyi actually got famous through Awakening Age so he fits this drama more. If anything he should appear in less idol dramas.

  • I have nothing against WDX, but it feels that he was overhyped in Fireworks by Yang Yang haters.
As for ZWY, I thought he did a great job in Are You The One but haven't seem him in anything else. However, as other people say here, I totally disagree with this culture of pitting actors and their fandoms against each other. Maybe ZWY was never on board for this show, maybe he had schedule conflicts, maybe he realized the show sucks or maybe the director decided he wanted an older actor - or maybe none of this is true and we will still see Zhang Wanyi in it. Who knows, but why the need to compare two totally unrelated actors and hate on the one or the other.

  • Zhang Wanyi is a really good actor though. I've watched him outside of those 'idol' and romance dramas such as A Long Way Home and The Bond. I think he's the kind of actor that excels more in dramatic and serious roles but not saying that he's weaker in romance and comedy though because i actually think he did good in Are You The One and his character isnthe highlight of the show for me lol. His dramatic scenes in LYF were great and memorable too. It's a pity because this project would've been up his alley.
