It’s ironic that an article about the decrease in K-drama production and many established stars having a dearth of script offers is followed by news of a rookie landing a big project. Rising young actress Hong Hwa Yeon will be the female lead in SBS drama Treasure Island, with male lead Park Hyung Sik and veteran Heo Joon Ho. She landed the role after an extensive audition with 100:1 odds and has two dramas under her belt in small roles in True to Love and Mental Coach Jegal the last two years. The drama will be a 2025 project so let’s wait and see how she delivers on female lead presence onscreen.
This year 2024 has been a slow year for K-actress Suzy in terms of her…
There are weird casting choices and this one is weird from both the leads itself…
Well this is an interesting pairing, setting aside the age difference at least I can…
I swear I just wrote about Song Joong Ki having his first baby and then…
At the end of the day, the core of any good drama remains the Story,…
If I didn't know this drama was a romance set in space and done K-drama…

Interesting news! I'd love to see Hyung Sik to pair with new faces. His last drama Dr. Slump was a dud. PHS/PSH pair didn't work to bring magic and their drama is forgettable, unlike their name combo though. LOL.
Yea that was a sorry miss. I was excited, but either it was the story or they didn’t have chemistry.
Same with Love Next Door, it was a frustrating disappointment.
I like the FL of Love Next Door. But her character and her family dynamics were a big turn off from the get-go. Her mom getting physical is unbearable and not funny at all. I couldn't pass ep2. Who wants to watch family feuds that are not in shortage in real life? Not me LOL.
@Somebody
Yeah LND is a disappointment. I expected nice romcom from all the promo but nah it’s all boring trauma dumping, and the leads don’t even have chemistry
I'm a little-little sceptic knowing she's from BH agency
Same thoughts. BH Entertainment are one of the biggest and most powerful agencies. Just by virtue of being in that agency she would have had an advantage over most of the other actresses. They are already media playing about her being cast in this drama.
I mean as long as she isn’t bad like hong suzu it’s not a problem…
Hong suzu was touted as good and beautiful actress because she is in the same agency as go youn jung.. and we can see how that turned out
@Yuhyi, gosh you brought back the memory of the disastrous drama. HSZ ruined the Impossible Heir. She is one of the worst (if not the worst LOL) I've seen among all actresses from west to east and from Arctic to Antarctica. I hope my boy Lee Jae Wook has better luck to pair with a better actress in next project.
@Somebody
I’m still not over that one lol, I think she is the worst, even shin sekyung who is notorious in k ent is better than her. I watched it because of lee junyoung. Hope his next project will be a good one
They auditioned her. That must mean something. She must have been impressive. Glad to know kdrama actually has audition and give chance to newbies. Unlike cdrama news, almost always about fighting over billing.
Facially, she looks like a cross between Jo Bo Ah and Go Youn Jung.
So true. The eyes look like Jo Boa, then from the nose down GYJ😄
I honestly wished they did this more for both male led and female led dramas. Two big stars don't have to be paired together. One big star alone can sell a project. It would probably cut down on budgets for these dramas on top of it. I'd much rather they do auditions with actors stuck in supporting roles, up and coming actors and rookies who can do screen tests with these stars to guarantee we get solid acting and chemistry in these drama pairings. What's the point of pairing up two big names if they have no onscreen chemistry.
I don't know... this kind of 100:1 is not always good news. And why it's always for the actresses and not the actors?
Why it's not good? I didn't hear about weak actresses got role through audition, only know actresses Kim Tae Ri and Won Jin Ah got their roles like that.
I don't know why it's more for actresses than for actors, but auditions definitely not bad thing, it gives more possibilities for rookies or no-famous actresses.
Auditions in the film industry are more reliable i guess. In dramas though, there have been cases like My sassy girl drama where they auditioned several girls, making them go from round to round to finally say that the chosen actress would now become the 2nd FL. The girl ended up dropping altogether because of this farce. So we don't know how this will play out or not. At thend end of the day, dramas vie for popular stars who can bring their fan following to achieve big numbers be it ratings or views.
@wapz
Hmm, when I can say casting directors of My sassy girl did a bad thing by not clear up this from the beginning.
For second female lead, I know actress Lee Joo Been went from numerous rounds of auditions to get second female lead role in Queen of tears. I can't say how much it affected her career, but now she has 2 future dramas as main lead ahead and one drama in assembly cast
