Shin Hye Sun and Lee Joon Hyuk in Talks for Thriller Web K-drama Lady Dior

I’ve heard mixed things about Shin Hye Sun and her currently airing K-drama Dear Hyeri but my aversion to her male lead makes me skip unless it’s trending as a seminal work. So I’m extra excited to hear she’s already in talks for her next drama titled Lady Dior and it’s definitely named after the French couture house. She would be playing a Korean-American hustler who aspires to run a fashion empire even if using counterfeit goods. Her male lead is also a great pick if he accepts, it’s Lee Joon Hyuk who has a a career trajectory like Namgoong Min, a lot of supporting roles in his thirties and now in his forties he’s leveled up to male lead with interesting projects. This drama is slated for streaming only and with a brisk 8-episodes.

  • Dior is my favourite haute couture Brand... I hate counterfeits... I rather not own one than buy counterfeits.

    • @Hl you should watch this youtube channel : Loic Prigent, it's a french reporter that covers Paris fashion week , not only he is from our generation but he knows a lot about fashion and his way of commenting is humorous .

      • Seconding your recommendation. Loic Prigent's channel is so interesting and fun. He seems to know everybody in the fashion world so provides a real and enjoyable insider's view.

  • Heck yes, finally a break from the odd romance drama's she's been doing. And it's a reunion too so chemistry with these two is guaranteed.

  • I'm not a fan of her current male lead either. I think he's a terribly bland actor and kind of awkward in the emotional scenes. I've never seen Lee Joonhyuk, but it sounds like he paid his dues to get elevated to male lead. Hopefully he's good! It's been a while since I've completed a Shin Hyesun drama.

  • Finally. FINALLY.

Her last 3 drama male leads were just not it for me and her most current one is unwatchable. I wouldn’t touch that drama even if it won an Oscars but this - this I can so get behind. Love them both and I’m pumped.

Also, it’s funny how Koala compared LJH with NGM, because actually I always found them to have some resemblance in the way they speak.

  • Love SHS but I also wish she’s more selective. Some of her recent choices are terrible and looking at the production, synopsis or costars, I’m not sure what enticed her to go for it. None of them scream run, but none scream YouMust either. Samdalriwas ok and did well domestically even if it made no splash internationally but 19th life was abysmal. Dear Hyeri is also been there done that. At least this new one sounds like it has an interesting title and synopsis. Counterfeit might be an upcoming trend. And her costar is a good actor but until we know the PD and Writer, it’s hard to feel excited. For her sake, I hope it’s a win.

    • Welcome to samdalri achieved very high ratings with zero promo, it did more then well, Shin Haesun should've gotten nominated but tbf it was a tough year! Chemistry wise her and JCW were amazing.I agree see you in my 19th life was a miss but what do u expect the male lead is not that great of an actor and didn't suit the role. Regardless of the project Shin haesun always delivers, no doubt she will with this project.

      • I rarely expect the male lead of any drama to be the reason why said drama would be good. Unless the actor is known to be a good at picking strong scripts. KSH, SJK, NGM are a few who comes to mind. Ahn Bohyun is as mediocre as Ji Changwook both as script pickers and as actors so the male lead was definitely not the issue in 19th Life. The problem was the always the script. No one can save that script, and no one should have even picked that script. Definitely not someone as good as SHS. Which is why I come back to my initial point - she needs to be more picky and not do everything that comes her way. Yes, she always gives out great performances but the cost is her reliability in delivering memorable dramas.

      • @millie
Damn, I get JCW picks duds but he's known to a good actor, even most Haesun fans agree he's her best male lead, after so many duds since worst of evil and Welcome to Samdalri his picks have improved. For Shin haesun other than the male lead, see you in my 19th life is a good webtoon, so I get why she picked that. But it's a rare miss for her, but still had decent ratings.

      • To each their own with this one, but JCW to me is as good and as bad as ABH, take your pick. They’re the same level. The difference is mainly their popularity and ability to generate chemistry, but from a talent standpoint, they’re on par. Ironically, I agree JCW is her best partner to date, along with PSH if one can think of him without feeling gross. Its only further proof of how bad her male leads have been.

On a +ve note, this new pairing is very promising. Not sure of the drama yet, but at least her ML can act which is a lot more than what anyone can say of her current one.

    • my theory is that sometimes she's picking interesting characters to play more so than the script itself. 19th life, she got to play a whole host of characters/someone who has all their memories. in Dear Hyeri, she gets to challenge herself to play someone with DID. whether those are good choices is ultimately her call. I didn't enjoy either one of them.

      • I feel like it makes sense to pick interesting characters, since she'd be living and breathing that character for 3 months. I think for my own job - it's a bit more important that I like my day-to-day role, get along with my colleagues and supervisors, and have room to personally develop than the company/institutional grand mission and whether the company gets a lot of accolades in the industry. For scripts, you don't get all 16 episodes to read beforehand. I've been burned by a crappy final quarter for many a drama

In 19th life, she didn't really play all her past lives, but she got to play someone who felt the weight of it all. She did get to play the first life (and did a phenomenal job - better than her 19th life).

      • It’s possible that’s the case. There aren’t as many challenging characters for actresses out there so she probably choosing what she feels best amongst the options given to her.

But the question of whether they are “good choices” for her ultimately lies with the audience. She can choose to do challenging roles for a bit regardless of the quality of the drama itself. But if they continue failing to deliver what the investors need them to, ultimately she wouldn’t get many scripts to choose from regardless of how good an actress she is. And that’s really the crux of the matter. It’s not only about ability, it’s also marketability and success of the project. That’s not to say she hasn’t done well for herself because Samdalri did well. It’s just that I like seeing her on screen, and looking at everyone’s comments, I’m in the majority. And I’m just hoping she is more selective so we can all continue seeing her.

  • Oh, these 2 are reuniting so many years after Stranger! Coincidentally, LJH's Stranger spinoff is currently airing and it's rather funny and solid so far. Imo, SHS's current drama is actually quite unique and thought-provoking but she has the hard job of carrying the ML who is AWFUL (both acting and character-wise) on her back. I'm excited for this one though.

  • Crossing my fingers these two will work together again! I’m a fan of LJH’s works. And why isn’t his drama with Han Ji Min airing already?

  • Dear Hyeri is an amazing show. She's 'that' actress who can deliver her character well. But hell yeah, her male lead is just a turn off. I keep watching it for the story. I didnt finish a few of her previous dramas tho. But her acting is always on point.

  • Stranger / Forest of Secrets feels! 😭 Never thought I would see these two reunited as FL and ML in a crime drama. Apparently, between this and Kim So Hyun's upcoming drama stories about fake luxury items are the new trend 🤣

I might finally be able to watch one of her dramas. All her recent romcoms/rom-dramas have not appealed to me at all

  • I'm enjoying her current drama, she is doing an amazing job. Way better than her last two dramas, I think.
