So there is a motel in this story but it’s not located in California. Upcoming MBC romance K-drama Motel California released script reading stills this week with leads Lee Se Young and Na In Woo with second leads Gu Won and Choi Hee Jin based on the novel Home Bitter Home. The leads grew up in this countryside town together until the female lead, who suffered discrimination her whole life, leaves for Seoul to make something of herself. She comes back a decade later to find the male lead a very eligible bachelor who is now a veterinarian. This sounds like Hometown Cha Cha Cha and Welcome to Samdalri and it seems like these return to your roots romance K-dramas come around once a year on the regular.

Now this is an insanely stunning, youthful and talented woman that should have the undeserved hype some be having, she also deserves better costars hoping she gets to work with KSH or even PSJ, she deserves better unlike the mid men she keeps getting paired with. 🙄
Not a fan of Na In-woo, he's just tall but has no charisma.
I will watch it for Lee Se-young and Choi Min-soo, I just love him!
Looking forward to seeing Choi Minsoo, I'm least excited about Lee Seyoung tbh. In her last few drama's she hasn't impressed, something about her facial expression. I'm just getting Park Minyoung vibes with the drama's she's doing lately. Also the story line here is such a yawn fest, set in country side with female lead reuniting with male lead, with him being in love with her all time. Agree with Koala, it's welcome to samdalri all over again.
I don’t think lee seyoung is bad actress, but her recent drama what comes after love has pretty similar premise to this. That one was about meeting her ex when she is going to get married to her fiancee and the story wasn’t so good. This one also don’t sound very interesting
What Comes After Love is nothing about this drama. It's not because there is an ex, the story is the same.
What Comes After Love was about a mix couple, living in a foreign country, loneliness, communication.
It seems in this drama, the problem is between the father and the daughter, not the ex.
They already broke up in the story tho. In fact I don’t get the story, in the end she broke up the marriage and went to her ex. But did they fix any of what happened back then in japan?? If they were still together and actively tries to fix their relationship, I would agree with you. But in fact everything is already over, so the story is about woman who broke up her marriage because of her ex
Fix what happened? They can't fix it, it happened. They both understood what they did wrong in the past and apologized for it. They're ready to start over.
The story is not about a woman who broke her marriage because of her ex. Because first, they weren't married, because it was the last episode she didn't want to marry her boyfriend. But the important are the reasons, the motives, the characters, etc. Otherwise every story is the same...
Synopsis doesn't sound very interesting though I also enjoyed HomeCha and Welcome to Samdalri. I'm curious as to how LSY and Na In-woo would do together. I wish we'd get a drama about the opposite - where someone moves out ot the countryside and after 5 years, realizes that her roots are in the city and she meets a cute city planner on a crowded bus.
I don't know why I thought this would be a horror comedy about a couple who cannot escape from a motel. The premise sounds so blah.
Agree, I thought it would be horror lol. Or something about hotel business
This looks boring, typical of that genre. The ML is bland too.
The story does sounds bland, but I think I’m gonna watch it since there is choi heejin there. She might become the scene stealer again
I don't know her. Any recommendation of her dramas where she impressed you? I've been stuck with the hot mess of the Penthouse series and post election in the US though. LOL. But I'll take a look. Thanks.
I only know her from the impossible heir actually, her acting is impressive there. My fav scene is when she argues with lee jaewook after hitting her car with her heels. Her expression change with every word spoken made me decided not to drop the drama even if it has a trash plot🤣
She is a great and much loved actress but I am not sure why she is not getting more interesting scripts since she broke out from the red sleeve? For example park eun bin does a lot of different genres? I think Se Young can do better but maybe she is accepting anything that comes her way? I think very highly of her btw. What comes after love was a hit I believe. It is a heavy melodrama.
Some people just can’t pick good script even given the chance… I say this because my own fav actor picks a lot of bad scripts too…
Curious who's your fave?
@Somebody
Currently it’s lee junyoung, I enjoyed his drama dreaming of freaking fairytale, it’s been so long since I watched absurd comedy type of drama. His other works for me actually isn’t that good, but he has good range of role he can do so I’m rooting for him. He was probably more known for starring in love and leashes or class of lies
Maybe I have some bias too coz he is originally an idol. I like idol that can successfully transform themselves into actor like im siwan or park hyungsik
I love Lee Se Young. I watch KDrama because of her. Whatever project she chooses, she always brings something fresh, and exciting to the table. I can't wait for Motel California because her character on this series is quite different from her previous roles. Rooting for you Se Young! Fighting!
I think both Lee Se Young and Na In Woo are great actors! Na In Woo was amazing in River Where the Moon Rises, not sure why people say he's bad. I'm excited to see this pairing.
