Xu Kai and Chen Yao Cast in Period Romance C-drama Wishing You Eternal Happiness
So Xu Kai is back in period drama land and has a new actress costar who is getting her female lead leveling up. The C-drama Wishing You Eternal Happiness (表妹万福 Biao Mei Wan Fu) adapted from the same name novel has cast Xu Kai and Chen Yao (Sebrina Chen). It’s a political intrigue romance with a second chance angle as the female lead dies in her first life and gets a do-over and she picks a different path. There are tons of those novels and many adapted and some getting adaptations as we speak so it’s always a question of execution and casting because the second chance do-over will always feels satisfying to watch if done right.

Xu Kai works nonstop lol but he just doesn’t ever have a massive hit (yet).
All the the likes and hype on the internet from international viewers really mean nothing for mainland viewers.

XK has really gone done the latter despite getting nonstop offers. They have been less than impressive either in budget, leading ladies, story lines. His dramas come & go quietly, but then again, the # of hits compare to the # released has been weak. It’s a matter of time before their industry not making their $ and they’ll be more conscious of what projects to produce.
I love Chen Yao. In my personal opinion, she's such an underrated actress. I hope she gets her big break soon.
I still liked Chen Yao best when she was the loli puppetress villain in Wu Xin Monster Killer. She should think about going back to those iris-enhancing contacts. They gave her appearance a huge boost. Nothing bad to say about her acting otherwise - she's a good actress
