Lee Chae Min in Talks for Male Lead Role Vacated by Park Sung Hoon in A Tyrant’s Chef with Female Lead Yoona

Well this is both fast and really odd of a pick. K-ent is reporting that young actor Lee Chae Min has been offered the male lead in the K-drama A Tyrant’s Chef with still confirmed female lead Yoona. The male lead role was recently opened back up after Park Sung Hoon dropped out post his Squid Game 2 parody porn video screenshot scandal. I like Lee Chae Min, he’s a promising young actor, but there is like zero anything in common with Park Sung Hoon from age demographic to acting ability to visuals, and he’s in discussions for the same character like wut? If this is due to availability of other actors in such late notice so be it otherwise this drama just took a detour on what to expect for me.

  • He's charming but not the maturity for this kind of role. They need an older actor with more experience and depth...

  • With actors who are complaining about lack of work in the field , we can ask ourselves some questions ! Nothing against the actor but he isn't enough experienced .

    • Hahaha. Yeah, it's funny they replaced a seasoned actor with a very green one. I don't recall I've ever known this kid either. Perhaps he will give us a surprising performance? LOL

  • It is my opinion that Lee Chae Min is nowhere near Park Sung Hoon's level in talent, maturity and experience. So I don't expect much from him. Of course, he may surprise anyone and reveal a depth to his acting - I've only seen him in minor supporting roles, so I don't expect much from him - but I'm not holding my breath. Pity about Park Sung Hoon's scandal. If he didn't do something so stupid, his career would really have blossomed after the exposure from Squid Game.

  • Seriously WILD choice. What exactly is the story of this drama? There is no way a production can go for an actor who is 15 years younger than the first choice and still keep the character’s profession and experience the same. So are they just changing the script altogether to fit an actor who in his last drama played a high schooler??

I was curious who they’d go for because I thought they’d try to find an actor the same calibre as PSH. Instead they went for an inexperienced actor and now have a 10year gap Noona romance in their hands. No wonder so many knetz are now starting to say it would’ve been better to go with PSH. This just has to be one of the most bonkers casting choices I’ve seen recently 😂

    • Lol true it reminds me when Lee jongsuk was in talks with a drama choi hyun wook rejected 😂😂, must say Ksh agency is powerful.I think this the main bill is Yoona I don't think established good actors are rushing fit this, Sunghoon is also too good but he could've done with a switch up from his usual villain roles.

      • I honestly had no idea who/what you meant by “KSH’s agency”. I had no idea this guy belongs to the same agency. Tbvh, I had no idea who this guy even was until I googled his filmography. Whether it was the agency lobbying hard or the production getting desperate - this is an unserious choice😂 Yoona’s fans rallied hard to get PSH out of this drama only to get this. Now they can rally even harder to get her out of it. What a hot mess and I have my popcorn ready for the off screen shenanigans.

  • If they're trying to spite those Yoona fantards who bullied Park Sung-hoon into quitting with this casting, good job.

I really doubt they have a shortage of similarly-aged actors, especially now that drama production is in decline. I also doubt that they are pressed for time considering that this drama will not be on air until the second half of the year. So the only conclusion really is that the production agreed to this ploy by Gold Medalist as a way to raise the middle finger.

    • The problem is production will start around next month so they can't delay it any longer. What kind of experienced actor would take a dropped out role, from a scandal to boot, in last minute. I guess their pool is small.

  • This drama is female centric drama ofc they won’t get popular actors to play second billing behind yoona. PSH was the best choice they could get before. I already predict they will find another rising actor to replace PSH but LCM is kinda funny lmaoo gold medalist should give them CHW instead LCM 😂

    • I agree that PSH was probably the best choice before fitting the bill of popular, in his 30s, and willing to be second billing. I feel like there are a couple actors who have been discharged from the army in the last year who could take up the role, but they may have something in the works that haven't been hammered out yet and they also have the disadvantage of having been away for so long.

CHW is already filming a drama where he gets to play a department head in his 30s!

  • So wait this kid is supposed to play a tyrant king? I mean, LOL. He’s going to have to have Kim-Song-Yoo level charisma to pull that off in his early 20’s. Not saying he can’t, but it’s a tall ask for someone who’s been bad to mediocre in all his previous works. Not sure if he’s smart to accept it, or suic-idal.

Yoona’s likely gonna have to do all the hard lifting (also a tall ask lol) tho I suppose it’s a good opportunity for her. Time to take a page out of Suzy’s book - she did 2 back to back female centric dramas with not-so-popular actors and pulled it off remarkably. Yoona’s turn this time.

  • I agree with everyone else here, this is such a random casting decision lmao. Never hard of this dude before. He looks good, but I have no idea about his acting skills. If he's an uncharismatic, mediocre actor, Yoona would have to carry this drama, which... well, we all know she's not capable of doing that yet, so it would probably be one of those dramas where the second leads would overshadow the main leads. I don't know, maybe this dude or Yoona would surprise us with their acting. But as for now, I'm not interested in watching it as none of the leads are pulling me in. Maybe if it gets good reviews lol.

Oh well, at least shallow Yoona fans got their wish for a more conventionally attractive male lead, I guess...

  • LCM debuted in 2021 and has already landed 3 lead roles in 4 years. Rookies these days are not short of opportunities. Big agencies like BH, SOOP, GoldMedalist, Artist Agency and Namoo backing them ensures they’ll always succeed.
