Youku Premieres Modern Romance C-drama The First Frost with Bai Jing Ting and Zhang Ruo Nan this Week

• I dont know when it was, I started not enjoying his acting as much. I dont even know why... I guess I grew out of it.

  • You're not the only one. He just doesn't appeal to me either visually (perhaps looking too frail and girlish) or acting wise. He was fine in The Whirlwind Girl. But I don't get his appeal after that. Besides, he lacks clear enunciation. I can't understand his lines without reading subtitles. I would rather have voice actors dub him.

  • Me too , for me the last his drama I’m enjoying is “ new life begin” after that I can’t finish another drama from him ☹️

• I just don’t see why most of that news would interfere though? I will wait till it finishes and decide later if I want to watch. I personally could not get into Hidden Love like many did. If I did not like that would I like this? 🤷🏻‍♀️

  • HL and First Frost are very diff. Other than being from the same author and link of Sang Yan/ Sang Zhi character..its a whole diff vibe. First frost is colored with melancholy and a triggering back story. If one has read the source material, then they coild understand ML/ FL action better. The first few episodes transition past and present quite alot. Some patience is required.

• The first few episodes were very hard to watch, the editing and the plot were haphazard and random. I stuck with it though and by episode 7 my viewing experience had improved by miles. There's enough backstory covered by flashbacks to allow me understand the dynamics between ML and FL. Tonally, it's a lot darker than Hidden Love so it took a lot more effort for me to get into the story. Especially after coming off of watching The White Olive Tree which ripped my heart wide open and left me bleeding for days. I will stick with First Frost though, if only because of my love for Bai Jingting and because he's doing a phenomenal job 'eye acting' cause his character is majorly expressionless. I don't particularly care for the FL, and find her, at best, serviceable in the right roles. I wished they had kept some of the supporting casts from HL if only for continuity purposes. It's very hard seeing a different actor from the one you grew to love in the same roles which is why I don't watch drama's sequels if it features a different cast.

• Interestingly, I read a Chinese news title claiming TFF a hit already. Really or it was just bought news for promotion? I enjoyed Hidden Love. But there's a disconnect between Victor Ma, the actor playing Sang Yan in HL, and BJT. Victor Ma had great chemistry with Zhao Lusi, and he had very different aura from BJT. I just can't imagine BJT being SY and his romantic relationship being melo. LOL.

  Anyhow I most likely will pass this drama unless a lot of reviews rave about it. Now, I'm so addicted to Kdrama My Liberation Notes. I was watching Love of Divine Tree and Perfect Match but had moved them to the back burner since. I don't think any C drama airing at this moment is good enough to distract me from MLN.

  • They call it a "hit" already ? Sounds like a bought marketing for me

    • I don't know how 'hit' is measured but They're breaking records for Youku in modern drama which usually difficult especially for a melo type like this one

• Pass. Watched first episode, just too different in characterization from HL’s.

• I find this drama more interesting than Hidden Love. I really like Sang Yan. BJT isnt a bad actor. I kinda enjoy his performance in here. But surprised with Zhang Ruonan's acting. She delivers her character well. 6 first episodes and i love it.

• I’m done. No offense to lovers of the drama. I watched the drama with an open mind and got up to episode 9, I just can’t continue. The pacing, the heavy melancholic vibe, the constant flashbacks to the past, the slow plodding pace of the drama… is just killing me. I’ve had enough. Hope that love it continue to enjoy the drama, but for me personally, it’s more hype than substance.

• I loved it and am ready to see the next episode.

• Lots of Hidden Love International fandom, coming here in bulk with moto to demean the series "The First Frost". The First Frost novel is a serious story not usual xoxo cliche cute ML romance. It covers few taboo topics. Award winning veteran Senior Director and very experienced. Cast is perfect true to the characters in the novel. They are highly talented and respected for their talent in acting. Badmouthing just because their artist is not selected as lead, is downright immature. I will not speak on others work or artist here. The First Frost adaptation is true to its novel, I'am really impressed by the whole work. Must Watch
