Filming Stills and First Trailer of Li Yun Rui and Huang Yang Tian Tian From Princess Agents 2 C-drama Rebirth Excite Fans with Their On Point Visuals

The making of C-drama Rebirth the sequel to Princess Agents 2 has taken 8 years start production but now it feels like the long wait was for timing to be right. It allowed the casting of original child actress Huang Yang Tian Tian in the lead role and pair her with younger aged down Li Yun Rui. When both were casting he was still a rising actor and she’s a just a promising former child actress but since filming started he got a hit drama and big career boost with Blossom and she got a lot of praise with her youngest sister role in ensemble drama Perfect Match, so timing wise there is even more positive attention on this drama. The first filming stills are out from the set and both look great in character.

  • I am hoping this drama can be watched without Season1. Been too long...I dont want to rewatch that again.

      • I was waiting for it for so long , but no it's releasing and I'm disappointed because they changed the cast , the season 1 cast was perfect, idk if I'm gonna watch it or not now

    • She is such a miscast. She is 17 while the ML is a 28-year-old adult. Even if she was the best actress of the world their age gap would be um awful to say the least. As some Chinese fans said they more look like "uncles and nephews" rather than couples. Not to mention she is an underage afterall so it is weird seriously.

  • The trailer looks intriguing! I'm so ready for season 2 that finally got rid of obnoxious Lin Gengxin. So happy for a way more attractive LYR than LGX as the ML. LYR is one of the younger actors good at equestrian that I hope to see more of cool LYR on horseback LOL. If season 2 successfully meets the high expectation of fans, then LYR definitely will join the top liuliangs. He's been rising fast to popularity since the Blossom.

HYTT stood out impressively with her theatrical acting in Perfect Match full of trivia nonsense that wasted Wang Xingyue. She has a very different aura from Zhao Liying although there's some visual resemblance between them. I hope PA fans don't expect to see the same heroine in season 2.

Hopefully the script and the directing of season 2 work better together than season 1 that I fast forwarded a lot of scenes.

  • Regarding the suitability of posture and the maturity of looks I liked the former cast way better. The whole new team looks juvenile and unremarkable. None of them looks visually right and I can't associate the main roles with these new actors at all. I also doubt they can reflect the depth of characters as previous team did. Based on the leaked pictures, LYR barely transmits the  authoritative, Machiavellian and charismatic vibe that I expected from the stoic and calculating young master of Qingshan court. IMO the prominent aspect of this character is his imposing posture and the firmness and arrogance reflected in his eyes which lacked in leaked images and posters of LYR. He looked guileless, humble and unsophisticated instead which is irrelevant even to the novel version of the character who was described as sinister looking. In terms of facial expression he is always the same with some look of suffering (as if he has eaten sth bitter) or blank faced in its best. Thankfully he is to be Zhuge Yue not YWY so I try to get over it. Regarding CQ, HYTT has been chosen to play the role of legendary Xiuli general, the soul of the story. I wonder on what basis an underage is casted for this role. She looks like a teenager pretending to be an adult (simply because she is 17). Apart from being cringy, this inconvenient age gap becomes more pronounced when she stands next to the ML. They looked extremely mismatched in the pictures I saw at MDL. Honestly I have nothing to say about YX and Chuner substitutes. Chuner is down graded to a supporting role in this season. I think the production team didn't intend to invest much on those characters.

Regarding the story, the drama's plot seemed much more intriguing than the original novel to me (specifically its spying theme) and the characters' motivations and relationships made much more sense in the drama. I hoped to see CQ would become the master of Jianghu spies and confronting her mother's murderer (Zhan Ziyu) and Hanshan league's betrayer (Dong Fongji). Moreover, in the drama CQ and YWY embodied two archenemies who were the heirs of two opposing organizations unbeknownst to each other and that twist made their encounter much more interesting. On the contrary, their love/hate relationship in the novel was somewhat senseless and uninspired. Since, the characters' names are changed back to their origin (Yuwen, Yuan and Xiao to Zhuge, Zhao and Li) this season is probably not going to follow the unfinished threads of the 1st season and the rest of the story would take place in the fictional era of the novel instead of "northern and southern dynasties" period. On this basis, the historical aspect is likely removed as well.

So I honestly don't know what to expect. I read somewhere that the story is reduced to a love triangle and I feel the main leads are reduced to stereotypical characters to fit in this new parody. I am afraid CQ, the titular character, is also pushed to the margin in this new drama since the ML has top billing. I mean is it even "Princess agents"? Not in the spirit any more. Normaly it is expected that a 2nd season would tie up loose ends left by the 1st season and tell the rest of the story, to say the least. Changing the characters' names and archs is a drawback in this respect if not disorienting. I saw some comments at MDL mistakenly bleive Zhuge Yue is a new charcter appearing in the story after YWY's death at the ice lake. Such confusions are inevitable as they assert it is neither a direct sequel nor a complete remake. Based on the MDL cast list, "Cheng Yuan" (Yan Xun's subordinate) is going to show up in "Rebirth" while ironically, he had been killed by CQ in the last episode. If it's going to be inconsistent to this extent it can only be called the continuation of "Princess agents" in a parallel universe. It is like the production team have planned to keep a vague connection to "Princess agents" to probably attract its fan base while hiding their true intention which is a total divergence from it predecessor. In conclusion, I can't give it the benefit of doubt. I expected to watch the unfolding of the "drama-adaption" of the story but this semi-remake with its cherry picked plot leaves me skeptical and uninterested. It could be appealing to those who aren't that attached to the 1st season, however, for me almost all of the fascinating factors have vanished and I have no taste for remakes either. I read somewhere that the complete version of the script was prepared back then in 2016. I wished I could read that to close the plot arcs and get over it.

  • I posted my comment twice but it didn't show up (sorry if it appear later) so I summerize it. I personally can't associate these new cast to the roles at all. They all look juvenile not to mention FL being an underage. LYR is supposed to be the stoic Machiavellian young master of Qingshan court but he looks guiless and unsophistcated instead (just like in poster above). I am not going to start about his weak (almost zero) facial expression and unremarkable acting skill. Finally it is not a 2nd season as the production team also have asserted it is not the direct sequel. The plot have probably diverged from PA and is more aligned to the novel (i.e., I don't expect to see CQ become the master of Jianghu spies or any spying theme at all or hearing about ice kungfu). So I am one of those who is not interested at all.

  • I don't know about the female lead but I love the male lead. He deserves to be the shining star in this long awaited drama.

  • I loved the first series ,will be hard to top it but will definitely be watch I fancied lin gengxin in princess agents 😅
