Posters and Preview for SBS Sageuk The Haunted Palace with Yook Sung Jae, Bona, and Kim Ji Hoon Premiering April 2025
There is an upcoming sageuk coming in April that I’m planning to watch but not wildly excited about (yet). SBS will premiere The Haunted Palace (Gwigong) on April 18th in the Fri-Sat time slot and it has a fantasy/supernatural element in it. Male lead Yook Sung Jae gets possessed by an Imoogi, a Korean fantasy dragon/serpant/giant snake creature in folklore and this one is trying to ascend to the heavens and needs his body in its quest. The last time I saw an drama imoogi used as an antagonist/plot device it was in The Tale of Gumiho with a good set up and start and devolved into a lackluster wrap up. Bona plays the female lead her and I still haven’t warmed up to her yet but she hasn’t ever been bad when I’ve seen her so that is a positive I guess. K-netizens seem way more excited to see hottie ahjusshi Kim Ji Hoon here as the second male lead playing the King and definitely bringing a lot of intensity from the character stills alone. I am a little scratching my head why with such a spooky title and the whole possession by an imoogi plot the posters and first preview make it seem rom-com-y.

I won’t watch because it is not my taste but I hope this drama helps Kim ji Hoon elevate a bit more so handsome.
I was interested in this drama by casting news, as I expected strong chemistry between main leads.
But after watching teasers plot doesn't look like my cup of tea.
Drama I invested the most for April is Divorce insurance. Cast is good, and trailers look good, hope it won't disappoint.
Seems like it could be fun, though I'm leery of kdramas involving palaces, even if it brings me Kim Ji-hoon eye-candy. Will wait a few to see if palace politics will take over.
Like the cast but the genre is not really my cup of tea. Sorry sungjaeya!
