The new period C-drama is about to kick off filming and the leads are basically confirmed though not yet formally announced. The drama is titled Mo Li (莫离) and is adapted from the Feng Qing novel titled Golden Age Legitimate Fei (盛世嫡妃 Sheng Shi Di Fei). The leads are going to be Bai Lu and Cheng Lei and production will start in mid-May 2025 for a four month shoot. This is a female lead centric novel and drama and I’m just happy it’s not another xianxia for Bai Lu, even if she’s type cast in period dramas her more serious period fare are all eminently more watchable than her xianxia works for me.

Author is Feng Qing or Qing Feng? I only know 盛世嫡妃 by 凤轻. If it's indeed 盛世嫡妃 by 凤轻, I'll be interested to watch as I've read the novel before. The plot is long though, I wonder if they'll adapt the part where they went into a tomb as that part seems like it'll cost quite a bit to create.
The novel's storyline and cast of characters are epic in scope; it's basically about how the OTP unify tianxia/the world by conquering the four existing neighboring kingdoms (which each have their own dynasty/imperial family, famous generals etc.). It also stretches over more than a dozen years, timeline-wise. I really don't see how a drama adaptation can do justice to the source novel, especially considering current episode (and censorship!) restrictions, and it makes me sad to see one of the first and still most beloved C-novels I've read join the ranks of butchered adaptations.
Yeah the story spans over a large number of years with many different places. Even if the part with their son, Mo Xiaobao, was excluded, it'll still take way over 40 episodes which is the current limit for one drama.
This news make me feel like reading the novel again.
Finally finally a cast with equal wing
