This was supposed to be a slow news Friday. Only in my wildest hopes apparently. More awards news first – Moon Geun Young just bagged herself a Golden Ticket Best Actress Award for her stage performance in The Closer, which ran prior to the commencement of filming for Mary Stayed Out All Night. Congrats to Moon Geun Young!
That’s all good stuff, of course, but I am about a billion times more excited about the just announced press release from Basic House that their new spokes couple for 2011 will be…….Won Bin and Moon Geun Young. *cue Koala shrieks of disbelief and wonder* Below the jump will be some teaser shots of their upcoming photo spread.
Last year’s Basic House spokes couple was Kim Hyun Joong and Yoon Eun Hye (nice, very very nice, they had great chemistry and looked unbelievably gorgeous together), and this year BH just nabbed itself the current reigning box office champion of Korea Mr. Won “dimples” Bin, and the undisputed acting powerhouse of her generation Moon Geun Young.
What tickles my funny bone is this: Moon Geun Young’s debut drama was 2000’s Autumn in my Heart, where she played the younger version of Song Hye Kyo’s heroine character, and Won Bin played the second male lead that was hopelessly in love with Song Hye Kyo. It’s a little bit squicky to think that these two were in the same drama as the child and adult era characters. But when I see how young Won Bin still looks, and how gloriously adult Moon Geun Young now looks – well, I’m totally game for this pairing.
Gimme the pictorial, Basic House! I demand it now. I have no patience. *grabby hands, must have* You bet your doughnuts that I will be devoting an entire post to the pictorial when its released. Thank you, brilliant dude/chick at BH who had the idea to pair these two up.

OMG really? o/
Alright, I must not start daydreaming about a -possibly decently written- kdrama with these two as the leads. Must.Not.
The day Won Bin does a K-drama is the day *insert any impossible event such as pigs flying*.
I wish. God I wish so much he could do a drama with MGY. With his career trajectory, it's never going to happen. From Taekukgi (considered the best K-movie of all time) to Mother (which took him 3 years post-MS to pick as his comeback project - the boy is methodical and thorough if anything), and now to Ahjusshi/The Man From Nowhere.....it's impossible to get him back to gracing the small screens for investors and ahjummas alike.
However....Jung Woo Sung came back after 15 years. So I guess never say never, right? Another dude I never expect to see in dramas again is Jang Dong Gun.
I know. I know. That's why I said I must not start daydreaming about such a thing because it's almost impossible, which...WOE!
Yes, JWS came back, but...omg I don't want to wait 15 years to see Won Bin on the small screen again... Though better late than never? Dammit, I shouldn't have started thinking about WB+MGY in a kdrama. It's like trying to ignore the proverbial big pink elephant in the room. :///
@ockoala, i know i probably shouldn't say this so as not to jinx my dream but i heard at soompi that there are talks of Won Bin being the first pick as the male lead for Love Song/Tian Mi Mi. i love that movie and if he is indeed paired with YEH...oh my lord, i think my brain will explode. i mean, that epic car kiss alone will probably kill me. ;)
also, in his interview during Ahjusshi promo days, he said that he wants to do a melodrama again. we should probably start praying to the drama gods that he will soon.
In my opinion Ms. Moon is getting lovelier as she ages so anyone would look great with her but I read about this actor and I am impressed. He is 10 years older than her but he is quite handsome and has a strong resume.
I've only noticed MGY through M3 and looking at her old pics, is it me or is she looking much better lately? the KBS awards, the basic house shoot.. the power of love perhaps? bwahahahahaha
nice. they are gorgeous. I bet the photo shoot would come out perfect.
Agree. The gorgeous man left a decade ago and is best known for top record ticket sales as well. Gee, must dig up Autumn in My Heart and recycle it again. After all, HE was the REASON that got me drawn to that sob sob standard kdrama. At that time, there wasn't much rom-com to choose from if I'm not mistaken.
Was drawn to his rebellious, raw good looks [kinda along the lines of James Dean]. He seem to retain that quite well. never say never.. if with MGY, he may just be a teeny weeny bit tempted..
then again, JSG&MGY cuteness and chemistry is 2nd to none, isn't it? ha ha...
That is a fact that we all seem to agree on. JGS and MGY is and for now will always be the best pairing for me.
hah.. autumn was my very first korean drama.. and WB my first kdrama crush..was definitely rooting for won bin then, more than SSH.
aww.. but why not MGY and JKS? a little sad...
I found out a couple of days ago that Moon Geun Young was going to be the spokesperson from the M3 Facebook fansite, not in my wildest dreams did I ever think that Won Bin would be the partner. Autumn in my heart was the first kdrama I watched and it made me bawl like a baby and I will always have a soft spot for everyone involved. When I saw the headline I was like " wait didn't Won Bin play the guy in love with the adult version of Moon Geun Young's character", this would be so weird if Won Bin didn't look so young and they actually look good in the preview pics. Haha I wonder if the two have kept in contact since the drama. Autumn in my heart is actually what made me a fan of Won Bin and Moon Geun Young.
I don't think we will ever see Won Bin in a drama again but it would be nice to see these two in a movie one day. Even better would be to see MGY and the guy who played SSH's younger version in a drama or movie.
oh i can't wait for their pictorial posts. thanks a lot koala for this and to the person at basic house for putting them together.
looking at all the disappointing rom coms in 2010 i am really looking for an emotional drama where both leads have cold personailities and have had problems in their lives. i really liked moon's performance in cinderella sister and found her cute in mary and absolutely gorgeous on the night of kbs awards and her doing a drama with won bin would really be something i would really like to see.
and koala sister i will wait for the day pigs fly because that will be the day/month/year these two would come on the small screen and give us a wonderful drama. seriously this past year i have been watching and reading so much about kdrama actors and actresses i think i need to see a person other than my sister who i can talk to and literally have a talk marathon about the wonders of kdramas.
OMG! Oh, thanks for the news Koala!! :-))
But to be quite frank, how'd they feel about their reunion? Especially MGY, she was so young back then. Anyway, I'd just want to see them together. :-)
Hi Moom,
I was thinking the same thing, I think she's changed her style and I just think it totally suits her and her personality. :)
Yeah, if you are in love.... oh.... there are too many men! :D
Congrats to Moon for getting another award for her acting. This little girl sure is a powerhouse and full of energy. She's beautiful, real and kind, and I love her in all her dramas, movies and CF.
The still from the photoshoot looks wonderful. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Won Bin with her. WOW!!!
6 degrees of seperation in hallyuland knows no bounds!
