While I’ve loved Ai Yazawa since her early work Tenshi Nanka Ja Nai, I did NOT like Nana. Yes yes, how could I not like her award-winning work. It just didn’t resonate with me. So I was reluctant to read Paradise Kiss, until suddenly it was about to become a live-action movie starring Kitagawa Keiko (who I have a super soft spot for because she got to make out with and date my Yamapi), and Mukai Osamu (oh, only the hottest young actor in J-ent right now). So a few months ago I bought PK and read it in one night. I loved it. I loved it even more because of the ending. Oh ho, I know I’m never going to hear the end of it, but I found the ending totally honest, consistent, and absolutely how I would have chosen had I been Yukari.
Anyhoo, Paradise Kiss the movie opened in Japan earlier this month and has gotten solid reviews and is doing quite well at the box office. I posted about it before here (with the trailer), but now I’ve gotten some gorgeous official stills from the movie to share. Osamu as George was a masterstroke in casting, except he didn’t do the blue hair thingie. George, sigh, what a piece of work. I mean that in a good way, because damn his character was neigh unforgettable. I’m not sure Keiko as Yukari is nearly as perfect a fit. Another reaon why I can’t wait to watch the movie is for the gorgeous fashion porn. Lastly, I’ve embedded a cute CF where Keiko as Yukari models for an ice-cream brand.
I know I’m totally going to cry when I watch the movie. Just because I liked the ending doesn’t mean I didn’t completely buy the love between George and Yukari. It was passionately dysfunctional, yes, but totally the kind that can never be forgotten.

I've been waiting to hear about the release of this movie :) I first saw Mukai Osamu in Seigi no Mikata. I never finished the drama, but he's been on my radar ever since. Can't wait until I can watch this! I haven't read Paradise Kiss either, but just might pick it up after my finals. I need to watch Buzzer Beat too for Yamapi.

I read somewhere they changed the ending. Hmmmm....
Nooo, the ending was just PERFECT! That drama was so packed with character and vibrance that it's hard to believe it's only four volumes. Anyway, I just love the tight storyline (hint to Nana: long meandering repetitive storylines do not work) and the artwork and especially the ending. I would hate it if they changed that.

i lurrrrrrrve parakiss i read the manga years ago,own the anime and watch it like 3 times a year, i never get tired of it and im sooooooooooooo excited for this movie!

I only saw snippets of the anime...it looks very pretty...I didn't have time to watch the whole thing but...but...she didn't end up with the main guy??? And Mukai Osamu..oh loved him since Atashinchi no danshi...and hotaru no hikari...glad to see he's getting the fame he deserves. I always felt he was kinda underrated... Keiko what can I say, I actually saw her in Sailormoon the live action...LOL...yeah I actually watched that...and she's real pretty. And was really sweet and charming in Buzzer Beat with Yamapi....but I still thought she's a little awkward actingwise but she did kisses scenes better than most.. :P will definitely hunt this down...
I actually didn't finish hotaru no hikari cuz i knew he wasn't gonna get the girl!! Yea started whatching him since Atashinchi no danshi, and its its not about his looks, but something about him is so naturally cool without any pretentions!!! I really like Keiko I think she looks sweet
