Happiness for me is as simple as a hug or a new episode of Cheongdamdong Alice. It’s in the here and now, and the appreciation of the little things however ephemeral or mundane like a fictional drama. I don’t think CA tackles the age old problems of wealth disparity with realism, but it tries to not define the choices people make as black or white. Gold diggers like Yoon Joo and Se Kyung are shown to be bright, hard working, and goal-oriented. Does it matter that their ultimate goal is to marry rich? To succeed in that endeavor is indeed something that is achieved on its own merits. Similarly In Hwa was born into wealth but chooses to make her own marriage decisions on how to vault her even higher on the totem pole. She wants to leap frog over her brother and run the family business, and she’ll marry a man who can benefit the family business and therefore strength her candidacy as the heir. In her own way she’s also digging for success and is willing to invest her entire life into it. Seung Jo represents the outlier in this story, the one person who threw it all away for love. Yes, Se Kyung tried with In Chan who was practical enough to turn her away. But Seung Jo lived through that experience of loss and betrayal and its shaped who he is today. I know Se Kyung interested him because of her backstory and conviction, but I like to see her as his long awaited second chance at love. This time he has it all, but he’s going to pretend he has nothing. I love the drama for showing up straightaways that Seung Jo has mental scars and lots of rage towards his own history. It makes him flawed yet rootable, because who wouldn’t feel the same way in his shoes. Despite what the previews for episode 6 foreshadow, I’ll go out on a limb and say that we’re episodes away from Seung Jo coming clean with Se Kyung about his real identity. I think there are lots of great plot developments to mine with Seung Jo continuing to be Secretary Kim. Or perhaps that’s what I want since I’ll need some dating and making out before the inevitable shit storm arrives. Park Shi Hoo just tweeted he picture above which is from a scene in episode 6. I am so addicted and so in l.o.v.e. with CDDA that I might have some withdrawal issues after it's over. I read an article that said that they use a different writing system in CDDA than other Korean dramas. They have like a team of writers collaborating and a main writer that makes the final adjustments/ something like the American television script writing process. It seems to be working because the show... well... is just perfect.

Eeeeee! This drama just makes me so happy. I love everything about MGY and PSH together. Their interactions are the best. And I love SJ's attempts to be Secretary Kim. Everything else I'm mehhhh about, but they all serve their purposes. I want to see more of Tommy Hong being a decent guy and not some jerk. He was so aggressive when he was like...pfft I know what you want, not a sponsor but to get into Cheongdamdong...as if you could lol. aigo so excited for the next episode. Screw studying for law finals.
