If my hate for SETTV was able to be transformed into a tangible expression, I would air drop ten tons of cow poop on the network. I am really really sensitive when it comes to drama watching, honed from years of seeing dramas go wonky or stay the course. I trust my gut and my gut tells me the production of King Flower is going to insist on sticking with their pre-established OTP of Da Hua and Guan Jun. I watched episode 17 feeling like everyone was trying to pave the way for Terry, but that made me all the more worried once Guan Jun started down his path of “I’m not good enough for Da Hua.” It’s not noble idiocy because he’s being an insecure turd bucket about it, but the end result is the same, Da Hua is going to go cry on Terry’s shoulder and then eventually all issues will be resolved between her and Guan Jun and they get their barftastic happily ever after. What makes it all the worse, and every one of the fans is bitching about this, but there is an undeniable realization that SETTV is using Terry to keep its ratings afloat and dangling little bits of hope before us with ridiculously wonderful and shippy moments between him and Da Hua. The drama is unwilling to allow the three main leads to really have adult conversations about life and love, and instead keeps sticking poor Terry under the rain to break our hearts over and over again.
Okay, let me amend that, Terry is the only one able to have adult conversations both internally and with Da Hua about how he feels. But Da Hua is too stupid to look deeper into why she thinks about Terry all the time, and Guan Jun with his big dick attitude just thinks it’s all about him and what he can or cannot offer Da Hua. A fan wrote this and I agree a billion percent. Love doesn’t need a reason, Da Hua loves Guan Jun in all his useless glory and we have to respect that. As a viewer we don’t necessarily need to agree with it. But every single viewer loves Terry, and its not just because he’s rich and good looking and nice to Da Hua, its because his heart and thoughtful maturity just envelopes us in a sensation of real love. In this case, I need a reason why Da Hua doesn’t love Terry, because that is the only way I can let my ship go. Otherwise I would have just wasted months of my life on the pointless non-love-story to ever come out of TW-dramas. I also need to give a spoiler – I just saw a picture on weibo from the cast that felt like someone drop kicked me. I can’t even post that picture because it’ll make me cry, but suffice to say, I probably need to stop watching KF. I’ll recap episode 17 but for my own sanity may need to go on hiatus until the drama ends.

Come to mama, Captain Koala. I will make you hot tea and any kind of baked good you want. I have expereinced the betrayal that you have feared (*cough Yi Chun/Miss Rose cough*), so I know how you feel. Even I will admit that this is far worse. Really the ONLY reason to watch this drama is for Terry and what Chris Wu has done to this character. He should be given an award for completely carrying this show on purple-sweatered shoulders. I don't care about anyone else. I don't even really care about Da Hua, and frankly, don't think she deserves such love from Terry. The writers have not made her mature enough to understand it or deep enough to need it. The ONLY reason why I want them together is because it is what Terry wants. What more Terry snacks in the rain? Oh, show. You are really breaking my heart.

This, in a nutshell, is my problem with Da Hua.
I just don't understand, all those "special" moments between Terry and Da Hua have been accompanied by standard long gazes and music compared to the DH and GJ moments (maybe it's because I tend to skip over them so I don't notice?? haha)...to me that's usually a sign that they're a otp. I almost wish they would put Kai Le back in the picture since her character description wasn't too bad and she's been in love with Terry for a long time. She never came across as the standard evil antagonist like Johnson does and at least she has a brain in her head (wish it was a better actress though but I am past caring at this point).
The drama has written Terry like guy1, and he gets ALL the romantic shippy moments in this drama, whether its with Liang Yen (swoon) or Da Hua (swoon). Guan Jun gets jack squat other than act like a useless big brother. I wish he would GDIAF.
I had gigh hopes doe ep17 but I also came away after it feeling like they will still make the OTP stick together. As much as that sucks and sucks big time!!!

I'm pretty certain Mom thinks it's just a blip on DH's love story. I can't stand GJ but he's a decent guy and Mom knows DH has liked him for eons. The problem is DH's had no real reason to desire more for herself and is naive enough to believe her childhood crush will sustain a lifetime.
To be fair Guan Jun is not totally horrid and irredeemable like the dad, I have to agree with the general consensus that he is an immature douchebag.

The problem with this drama at its core, is that Terry is the better man and he loves Da Hua. He's strong, honorable and respective of her and her feelings but also is clear and pointed about his own. I truly don't give a crap about who Da Hua "thinks" she loves.
I also don't condone or ascribe to SLS and never will, but unlike most dramas, this is an exception. Therefore, brains around the world can't compute him "not" getting what he wants, because he's done everything right. He is the epitome of the new crop of second leads that aren't idiot punks waiting in the wings to be loved.
I admit heart will hurt if "the douche" remains the dream but honestly, I never had any doubt.
Terry has earned his status as the better man. We watched him love, lose, suffer, redeem himself, learn to move on. We watched it all, and now the drama refuses to budge on its preconceived notions of poor plucky couple gets to adventure and then end up together. FUCK YOU, SETTV. Seriously. FUCK YOU AND YOUR POINTLESS POSTURING TO MAKE A POINT.

He was the lead in What is Love? Drama is wobbly, female lead can't really act, his character was a giant douchebag, but he did amazing as he always does in "acting".
Hmm...maybe I'll give that a try afterwards. Whenever this drama is over I'll decide if I want to watch it. Your recaps have been great and I'm obsessed with Chris Wu/Terry now, so if he doesn't get the girl I won't watch it haha.

Dear Koala, I fully support your decision to take a break from this drama. We all knew it's not well written (except for the Terry character), but I didn't know it was this bad... the spoiler broke my heart. It's terrible because I would have enjoyed a few more episodes of Terry scenes. π_π
The spoiler was like a dagger. Yes, it could have been leading to something else, but I refuse to have hope because SETTV is run by the same type of douchebag they think ought to be the main lead.

Actually, Da Hua is really the ANNOYING one, I can't stand her clueless face, it's an obsession what she feels for Guan Jun and what makes me mad is that she is hurting Terry the most by telling him does he think of Liang Lian when he is with her! Ouch my heart! I am not even eger to watch episode 18!

Maybe the kiss will make her realize she has very sisterly feelings for GJ. There is hope . .....I am not giving up yet. Even if the spoiler pic is of a wedding between GJ and DH .....you never know what might happen on wedding day. So it's not over until it's over. I think they are playing with us.
haha I tried to think of the looks she gives Terry as "bewildered by strange but exciting feelings" but interpreting the expression as "DH's brain is constipated".
Da Hua's expressions of cluelessness and confusion really rubbed me all the wrong ways in this episode. I wanted to bitch slap her SO BAD. So so so bad. And I love Nikki Hsieh but damn Da Hua is a moron.
The only silver liining in this whole ridiculous trainwreck is that da hua is so stupid she doesn't deserve someone like Terry. Let her marry her doofus lunkhead, and in our own minds we can fashion the paragon that Terry deserves and send her his way. Honestly, I know he loves da hua, but she would drive me batty inside a week. Thank you koala, for throwing yourself on this grenade.
