I profess to being an old hand at enduring the once-a-week episode grind of TW-dramas and J-doramas, but even then the unexpected and totally worth it love for Monstar is making me feel like a kid in a candy store. I want MOAR and I want it NOW. LOL, and here I am pretending to be a fully functioning adult member of society making contributions professionally and personally. But when faced with the cutest high school menagerie of misfits and one star in the Poop Group (trademark pending?), I find myself suffering from withdrawal in the long interminable days between episodes. With all this talk of performing at the charity event, I hope the group actually performs in episode 5. I don’t mind all the great bonding time with everyone as they practice for their performance, but this thing has been bandied about since episode 1 and it’s time to get to it. One thing Dream High did really well was introduce a new event or goal every episode or two, so the music students were always trying out something new rather than heading towards one long-term objective. There was that big overarching mystery about the identity of K, the Korean international superstar performing at the Grammy’s, but that was sprinkled throughout the narrative and was never the central reason to watch.
We watch dramas like DH and now Monstar because it captures the brilliant talent and hope of youth as they stand at the cusp of picking a direction in life. In between there are petty jealousies, unrequited crushes, setbacks both large and small, and the foundations of friendship that help sustain the journey. A good high school drama deftly balances all these elements and right now Monstar is exactly that. I love how Seol Chan the Star does have attitude, but no one buys his gig and from Se Yi to Sun woo to even the All for One douches, he doesn’t get to coast on his fame and innate talent. He’s going to have to put in hard work to survive his three month purgatory in high school, though for all intents and purposes he’s kinda in Heaven what with the chance to sit next to Se Yi and day dream about her constantly. While I can’t say the personalities and issues these particular group of high school kids deal with is presented very realistically, the dreamy low key energy makes it feel like a comfortable warm sunny day in the park. Mnet has been pretty good with doling out the teaser and they just released an adorable scene from the upcoming episode 5 that heralds back to Se Yi’s milk mustache.

LOL poor Seol Chan...it seems that everything Se Yi does triggers his overactive imagination. :) Is it Friday yet?

Love the moustache scene. His rxn was GOLDEN... From his "did you actually buy me milk" to "i get to leave first" was just major lulz.
This show is so cute. I wasn't initially drawn to it. I almost stumbled into watching it and now I am excited for each new episode.
Same here. I haven't looked forward to Friday so much since my own high school days.
Hahaha I love Seol Chan's reaction. It is really relaxing watching these actors debuting without having any expectations. On the second thoughts, how come they can have dinner at "Adam"'s house
