Mnet Releases Sneak Peek at Cute Scene from Episode 5 of Monstar

I profess to being an old hand at enduring the once-a-week episode grind of TW-dramas and J-doramas, but even then the unexpected and totally worth it love for Monstar is making me feel like a kid in a candy store. I want MOAR and I want it NOW. LOL, and here I am pretending to be a fully functioning adult member of society making contributions professionally and personally. But when faced with the cutest high school menagerie of misfits and one star in the Poop Group (trademark pending?), I find myself suffering from withdrawal in the long interminable days between episodes. With all this talk of performing at the charity event, I hope the group actually performs in episode 5. I don’t mind all the great bonding time with everyone as they practice for their performance, but this thing has been bandied about since episode 1 and it’s time to get to it. One thing Dream High did really well was introduce a new event or goal every episode or two, so the music students were always trying out something new rather than heading towards one long-term objective. There was that big overarching mystery about the identity of K, the Korean international superstar performing at the Grammy’s, but that was sprinkled throughout the narrative and was never the central reason to watch.

We watch dramas like DH and now Monstar because it captures the brilliant talent and hope of youth as they stand at the cusp of picking a direction in life. In between there are petty jealousies, unrequited crushes, setbacks both large and small, and the foundations of friendship that help sustain the journey. A good high school drama deftly balances all these elements and right now Monstar is exactly that. I love how Seol Chan the Star does have attitude, but no one buys his gig and from Se Yi to Sun woo to even the All for One douches, he doesn’t get to coast on his fame and innate talent. He’s going to have to put in hard work to survive his three month purgatory in high school, though for all intents and purposes he’s kinda in Heaven what with the chance to sit next to Se Yi and day dream about her constantly. While I can’t say the personalities and issues these particular group of high school kids deal with is presented very realistically, the dreamy low key energy makes it feel like a comfortable warm sunny day in the park. Mnet has been pretty good with doling out the teaser and they just released an adorable scene from the upcoming episode 5 that heralds back to Se Yi’s milk mustache.

  1. LOL poor Seol Chan…it seems that everything Se Yi does triggers his overactive imagination. 🙂 Is it Friday yet?

  2. omg such a cute scene. i lovvveee his imagination, his obsession with her is making him become one of my fav. male leads ever

  3. Love the moustache scene. His rxn was GOLDEN… From his “did you actually buy me milk” to “i get to leave first” was just major lulz.

  4. This show is so cute. I wasn’t initially drawn to it. I almost stumbled into watching it and now I am excited for each new episode.

  5. Hahaha I love Seol Chan’s reaction. It is really relaxing watching these actors debuting without having any expectations. On the second thoughts, how come they can have dinner at “Adam”‘s house

  6. OMG, I laughed out LOUD! Luckily in my own sweet home. I too cannot wait for monstar. Keep checking the blogs for bits of news.. Thanks koala. Tat just made me so… I don’t know.. Gaddy ( giddy-happy). Haha

  7. Thank you for getting us to watch this drama. I love it. I love the leading lady with her wide set eyes and her great sense of self. I love Seol Chan! He is average looking but has great screen presence. I’d rather watch him anyday to drop dead gorgeous Choi Siwon or any of those pretty idol boys who make me wince and cringe with their attempts at acting and zero screen presence.
Wouldn’t it be great if that leader of the snob clique also fell hard for SY?

  8. i love the way Monstar is building up the tension: the love triangle(?) and the the poop vs all for one. they manage to push it and then give it a 360 turn to bring back the lightness of the series.

ep04 was, i dunno… i like it. basically because of the way seol chan insist on the one sided love of sun woo when in fact he is the one who can’t get se yi out of his mind.

anyway, just cant wait to watch the next episode…

  9. This is hilariouss!!! I laughed out loud too, just for that simple scene. Seolchan’s reaction is daebak, I wonder when he will admit he actually have feelings for Se Yi. I mean, he sings a lot of love songs, surely he can connects the dots. Hehehe…

PS: I wonder where’re the bandmates. Yes Seolchan is on probation, but it will be nice if they show up to give some credits to the star’s status. wkwkwk…

    • I laughed at se yj’s exaggerated reaction to the YAH!! as well. She almost bit her tongue at the shout! So funny.

  10. Bwahahahaha.

I love the fantasy scenes generally (dunno why, just something about them), but now Seol Chan’s overactive imagination is interfering with his life…. hilarious!

  11. Oh, Seol Chan… you cute, petty man-child… I’m not supposed to be on your ship but you are pulling me in… uugggh, Must.Resist.

  12. usually in 16-eps dramas the kiss happens in the mid-way:D so maybe we should expect the kiss since this ep would be the mid-way:D So sad that this cutipies last just for 12 episodes :((((BTW Unnie really whenever I see Sun Woo with SeRi I think of Shin Woo from YB:D LOL even the guys look similar I think:D

and i am really curious about the parental issues’ facts both for SeRi and Seol Chan. I am curious whether actually the appa-chingu guy were the actual dad all these years and she knew her father differently. And why we see SeolChan-omma left him and how he treats her with so respectively or formally. I mean it is a different kind of reaction we see from other dramas:D so i ma curious usually they would be more rebellious when their mom left them right. Should we understand he loves her so much that he really afraids her to left him again? Poor Seol Chan-ah :(((((( The majority if other guys all have love friendship problems i think:D and The PE teacher guy really one of the best PE teachers in the drama world:D if i choose a guy for homeroom teacher, i would prefer PE teacher not manager:D
