Written and Video Previews for Episode 12 of Prime Minister and I

I could feel a teeny bit of pacing slow down in Prime Minister and I this week with the two new episodes and my experience chalks it up to the 1-episode extension giving the writer time to stretch out some of the narrative developments. Those hoping the OTP would have an emotional breakthrough (and start making out) needs to put on the patient hat again. It was satisfying in other ways to see the drama give more time to the family side of the connection, what with Da Jung spending an episode with her dear dad as well as Yul being more active with his own kids. So far the drama has done an admirable job of giving solid screen time to all the major supporting characters which I appreciate since each is well written and interesting in their own right. There are some dramas where everyone other than the OTP are two dimensional stock caricatures and spending time with them during each episode is pointless filler. The written preview is out for episode 12 and gives us some hints as to how the ex-wife mystery might be revealed. I still think the video preview is a feint of past and present time line and the ex-wife is still dead from the accident and not going to return to the drama to wreak havoc at this point. The truth of her relationship with In Ho’s brother will be pivotal to helping bring Joon Ki back from the brink of villainy, and hopefully repair not just his relationship with Yul but maybe his marriage with Yoon Hee. He’s been so busy being angry and bitter for the last 7 years it’s eaten away at his soul and that’s just a shame to see. In the same way I’m so relieved that Hye Joo isn’t some shriveled up emotional hag who is out to destroy Da Jung for entering Yul’s heart when she couldn’t. I can see PM laying the foundation so that a happy resolution of all problems can be realistically achieved but at the same time forcing the characters to deal with tough road blocks each step of the way. It’s still one of the better rom-coms in recent years and a definitely gem when it comes to keeping the writing steady even through the usually landmine-filled middle sections of drama storytelling.

Written preview for episode 12:

Kwon Yul has been stabbed and is rushed to the hospital operating room. Joon Ki hears about this and is very concerned. Hye Joo learns that the attack has something to do with Joon Ki. Da Jung is beside Yul taking care of him and is worried. Hye Joo sees what has happened and decides to leave Yul’s side. Joon Ki learns that In Ho’s older brother was Na Young’s lover and discovers that Kwon Yul knew and had been keeping silent to protect Na Young’s image in Joon Ki’s heart…..

  • I had guessed Yool's guilt might also stem from the fact that he had to hide Soo and his affair with Na Young to protect her memory in other people's hearts. I hope this makes Joon Ki see Yool for the good man that he is, not go nuts and think he actually wanted to murder the cheating couple. I don't think Joon Ki would ever believe Yool to be such a person, so I'm going to go with Joon Ki turning good and giving us some bromance.

Even if the wife returns, they can still do it in a way that will not be overly ridiculous. I don't see my love for this dying if they do it right, even if it really is a very typical makjang element. This series has done too many things well for me to hate it so easily.

    • I know ONE thing Prime Minister and I could do that would make me hate it. If that is not happening, then it's all good.

This first wife possibly being alive is seriously creating havoc in my brain - if first wife is still alive but Kwon Yul and Nam Da Jung is OTP, then don't care about it; but if first wife is alive thus Kwon Yul and Nam Da Jung is not OTP... *heart breaks*

      • They'd never go there. They've invested too much in our main couple. They even gave Lee Beom Soo a dilf makeover, since we're going into a less comedy/friend duo and more romantic couple type of a relationship now.

So no worries about the main couple. Everything points to them going for it 100%. ;)

      • In 'Mirae's Choice', we knew the main male lead would ruin her life and they never acted much like a couple anyway. Pairing her with the second lead was an idiotic move, but I expected her to end up with neither of the guys. It's not the same here and there isn't such strong fan shipping for Yoon.

Also, they know how much that angered viewers and the ratings were much more horrible. They won't make the same mistake twice. Different production, different writers. We can't compare that from-start-to-finish mess with this.

      • @Orion
Not sure I should have that much confidence in the writers here... The only work of theirs that I have watched is Sweet 18 - that was years ago AND that drama had no second leads really (not as much as the second leads here get attention/air time) and decidedly not that melodramatic (at least not as much as the makjang elements keep popping here and there in this drama). Not hearing good comments about their later projects is not exactly adding any vote of confidence.

But so far, I am really liking Prime Minister and I. Each new episode of Prime Minister and I becomes my new favorite episode, episode 10 and 11 included. Like I said, there is only ONE thing that can make me hate this drama - if the series won't go there, then it's all good.

    • Bromance? They can probably go back to the skating rink and take turns teaching the kids (i'm sure both of them would find a way to bicker on how to do it right). They can also take Madame Na so she can reenact Dajung's dive and Joonki would have to run to help her up.

      • That would be a sweet last-episode, post-crisis kind of ending treat, yes. I do hope they spend sometime with the families and sweetness in the end. I dislike it when series leave the happy ending for the last 5 minutes. Give us some healing, damn it. XD

      • yes to the healing. i've been feeling down since last night's episode, and we're not even into the the thick of the angst yet. i need back those warm fuzzies that the drama has been able to provide in large doses in the earlier episodes.

  • Really adore this drama!

But if Kwon Yul and Nam Da Jung is NOT the OTP... *heart breaks* It just won't make sense. Drama better delivers.

  • If Prime Minister and I is going to redeem Park Joon Ki, can it do the same for Kang In Ho too? Let us give everyone happily-ever-after endings!

Except the first wife because obviously she's already dead... She could be alive?! la la la *can't hear*

    • i'm sure they'll do something about inho too. the drama has been good so far on making their secondary characters quite redeemable.

  • WAIT!!! So Hye Joo is leaving Yul's side to go work for Joon Ki?!?!?! Is that what that preview means? I need help people. I am not wrried AT. ALL. about our OTP or the idea that the first wife might be alive. How come no one is saying about this turn of events? I like Hye Joo. I don't want her to be sucked into Joon Ki's world unless he is ready to reform.

    • She's probably doing it to keep an eye on Joon Ki from the inside of his scheming team. Yool getting stabbed and her learning it's connected to Joon Ki probably makes her think she needs to get in there and keep Yool safe by stopping his enemies from within.

She would not suddenly turn bad now. It's just trolling us with the preview. They've done that before. They always do it. I trust them with Hye Joo.

  • I really hope the wife isn't alive. It won't kill my love for the show, but it's going to damage it a bit. It also makes her pretty much the worst person ever and I have no interest in her or her story with In Ho's brother. Both guys can't stay away from married women...

I don't have much hopes for making out after that rather tepid kiss in the episode before last. Yeah, it wasn't meant to be romantic, but it was far more reserved than even the first one. Let's see if the PD can surprise me though! I hope.

  • If wife is alive , i feel like that`s gonna bring on some serious drama and it`s already getting to melo for my taste. I want my fluffy romantic comedy back.

  • After watching 10 and 11, find Chief Kang to be much more a character who is alive having his good and not so good shades. He is quite in control of what he is doing. Yul on the other hand, is one who is playing to the stereotype of the idealist (the port development check that he is undertaking is so much for him being portrayed as a perfect leader but it doesn't ring authentic), do-gooder and the dry, brusque goofiness of a rom-com lead. I felt this for the first time way back when Yul immediately decides to back down and resign from his PM nominee position when his seemingly compromising photos with DJ are leaked out. He doesn't face the problem , it was In Ho's judgement that DJ had to come through as his GF to clear her name as well. I brushed it aside then because , well, it was in rom-com mode.

This time again, Yul just asks DJ to leave his house. Again doesn't think through about the consequences and her Dad. Naturally, the inevitable happened. In Ho on the other hand , tackles the problems head-on rather than pushing it aside in the name of being the righteous, sacrificing person.

This has put a dampener on how enthused I used to be before. I prefer watching In Ho and Hye Soo rather than Yul and DJ. Ah well , atleast they are well written - human, with follies, intelligent and in control of maneuvering through the obstacles they face.

  • i dont get it why the wife still alive, her car so wrecked and didnt they burry her before ?
if they did, who was her?
since on that car only 2 persons, in ho's brother and the wife.
i think the wife is dead, no way she will show up again.
we enter serious zone, hope they will make it balance with a bit romance and cuteness.
