Suzy Reprises Her Dream High Role in Cameo Reunion with Kim Soo Hyun in You From Another Star

I have to admit, even if Suzy‘s high profile cameo in You From Another Star was as random as random gets, it was still so darling and cheeky I got a huge kick out of it. I think those who haven’t watched Dream High just won’t understand what a kyaaaaa moment it is to see Kim Soo Hyun and Suzy acting together again. Yeah, they do those Bean Pole commercials and photo shoots which are also ridiculously adorable. But here they have dialogue, and oh my lord was it Throwback Thursday perfect. Suzy shows up in episode 17 smack in the middle of a fight between leads Do Min Joon and Chun Song Yi. Wuri Hallyu superstar is understandably upset that her alien boyfriend is leaving for another planet in a month and isn’t in the mood to hear explanations despite said boyfriend is trying to explain himself. That’s where Suzy’s cameo comes in, and I almost fell off my seat when she opened her mouth and introduced herself as his student Go Hye Mi. LOLOLOL, seriously? Not only is she playing the same name character as her role in Dream High, she is that character herself because her next line is that folks have told her handsome Professor Do looks a lot like her ex-boyfriend Sam Dong. LOLOLOL, jinja? So Suzy does a flirty scene with Kim Soo Hyun as Professor Do while explaining he looks like her ex-boyfriend Kim Soo Hyun as Song Sam Dong.

Only in a drama as whatever with its own narrative mythology as YFAS can a meta-cameo like this work brilliantly. I am, however, very upset that my Hye Mi calls her Sam Song an ex-boyfriend! He’s not an ex, he’s her boyfriend who happens to be pursuing a music career in NY! Humph, those two never broke up and years later at Hye Mi’s concert she was totally singing to her honey while he was rocking out at the Grammy Awards. Anyhoo, this was a nice 3 minutes of happiness for a DH fan like me, and bonus points for Suzy actually being animated and still bursting with chemistry opposite Kim Soo Hyun. Don’t get me wrong, I still worship Jeon Ji Hyun as Chun Song Yi and her character should get everything her heart desires and more in this drama, including finding a way to convert her alien boyfriend into a human and live out the rest of their lives together. If the screenwriter has some naughty in her, she should mine those shoujo manga tropes and have sex be the answer, i.e. alien boy loses his alien-ness once he does the you-know-what with a earth girl. Yes, I know it’s silly but so far everything about YFAS is silly including the presence of serial killer Jae Kyung lurking around every corner. Might as well make the inevitable deus ex machina silly and sexy times, you know what imma sayin’. Enjoy the Suzy cameo, it was awkwardly shoved into the scene but ended up being harmless fun.

  • Cameo was cute and I agree that sex with a human might be the answer. I have noticed he is already becoming more human. He cries and hardly gets sick anymore when she kisses him.

  • Koala, i was also one of the devastated people who learned sam dong and hye-mi broke up. WHAT?! They were the perfect pairing. Just thinking of sam-dong's heartbroken face makes me wonder how the boy ever got over hye-mi. In my head, the two were just so busy they couldn't keep a long distance relationship as he's out there being K, but i'm sure they'll reunite.
The cameo was so obviously random but i got suck a huge kick out of it I didn't even mind. All those lights hovering hye-mi was so over-done it was lol.

Anywho, now you're starting to sprout some of the same ideas as soompiers who are so desperate to make our alien human that they've come up with all sorts of ways for that to happen. Among them they also suggest min joon and song-yi make love and he'll turn human.. or that constant exchange of saliva will magically turn him human. I admit to wanting this pairing have their ending so bad that i've also started to think up ridiculous things. His saliva tolerance seems to be getting better, too. Faster with a shorter duration.

  • Didn't care for Suzy's cameo. It had nothing to do with the plot and yet managed to ruin Dream High's ending.

    • you cared because you wouldn't comment here how you didn't.. lol

Plus, the plot isn't going anywhere since some episodes ago, they are starting to drag it tbh.

    • It didn't ruin anything. Don't take it seriously. YFAS writer can't break up a couple they didn't write in the first place.

  • Lol there was even the line ''I lost weight and matured, so that is why you might not recognize me''

Is this refering to when a popular idol saidi suzy looked fat and should lose weight after ending DH? After it she lost a lot of weight, and looked weird, until she went back to normal weight she is right now.

Plus, SD and HY met at 2018, so I bet they got together again! I'm sure.

    • I'worry about kim soo hyun.'bec'4 me i'm not happy that ending "dream high"..kim soo hyun and suzy. Their not together in ending .but it's ok they many bonding together. In dreamhigh'.. She love's my idol kim soo hyun,...i wish i can't see my idol in personal?,

  • Just the fact that hye mi was into do min joon bc he looks like Sam dong means she's not over him lol. Anyway I remember that Sam dong becomes K in 2018 or somewhere around then and she was obviously thinking of him while singing her song. That couple will be together forever in my mind.

And lol KSH has so much chemistry with both jun ji hyun and Suzy it's ridiculous. Different types though bc that kiss song yi gave do min joon was the hottest thing ever next to their thieves kiss.

    • Your answer soothing my soul (˘̩̩̩ε˘̩̩̩ƪ) been crying at the corner after hearing sam dong and hye mi broke up.

  • OMG, I totally agree. First of all I think she got it wrong with the pronunciation of "ex boyfriend" obviously Sam Dong is her super star boyfriend.

On the other hand, I just can't take off my mind that physical contact make Do Min Joon more human, that’s why the sickness after all. Maybe more intimacy is the answer. Let’s try that. :)

  • lol…to Suzy cameo as Go Hye Mi

and I have to agree with some comments here:

    * Hye Mi and Samdong (probably BROKE up or maybe NOT) DH ended in 2018 and HY and SD still rooting to each other.

    * HY flirting to his professor because he looks her ex-bf (does it mean SHE STILL LOVE SAMDONG)

    * HY is college student here (and in DH it ended 2018) both successful and still waiting for each other.

    * Does it mean they really BACK with each other after those years. (since it jumps from 2011 to 2018) and YFAS is currently 2014.

    * Plus yes the writer of this series isn't the writer of DH (so they don't had the right to change the happy ending of DH)

anyway I love Suzy cameo (looking Suzy and Kim Soo Hyun together again.

  • Are you going to recap YWCFTS after Miss Korea? Hahaha. I wonder though what you really think about it. I mean, I have to admit that I am a very picky person when it comes with her drama, this one certainly captured my heart. I'll try to watch Miss Korea after YWCFTS. I definitely am glad I gave this drama a chance. Who cares about logic, it's drama land anyway. The theme is alien in the first place. It's silly, the presence of a killer is silly. But who cares. :) I love it.

  • Oh gosh! All hail this post!

    I feel you!
Seeing Suzy (even though it was short) as her character in Dream High was the perfect throwback! It made me me remember those Suzy x Kim Soo Hyu moments back then which was completely adoooorable! But that ex thing tho. I was a bit sad. But yeah! She's gorgeous.
