Matsumoto Jun and Inoue Mao Reportedly Tying the Knot this August According to Japanese Magazine

My post on the Japanese tabloid news break about the dating relationship between Hana Yori Dango leads Matsumoto Jun and Inoue Mao made so many people happy on this blog and even brought lurkers out of hiding. That’s the power of HYD nearly 9 years later, unaffected by the lackluster Korean version Boys Before Flowers and surviving the hot mess that was the C-version Let’s Go Watch the Meteor Shower. Jun and Mao remain the gold standard for the live-action version of the manga characters rich messed up Domyouji Tsukasa and poor plucky Makino Tsukushi, though most who shipped them in real life from the drama were mostly diehards who kept the faith while the world moved on from this cracktastic coupling. Which makes last month’s big reveal that they were dating in real life (complete with tabloid night shots of them exiting dinner along with third wheel Ikuta Toma) really out of left field for those who didn’t follow along with the myriad hints and coincidences that strongly hinted at their dating relationship over the years.

It was kept very low key likely due to Jun being a member of Arashi and under the label of notorious strong-arm agency dictator Johnny’s Entertainment, plus Mao has her own acting career to develop and needs to stay single for her fans to harbor those spurious hopes of her availability. The most recent gossipy Lady’s Journal bombshell has the two of them planning to tie the knot at the end of August! Apparently with Mao signed on to headline next year’s Taiga drama, she’s the shoo-in to be the female host of this year’s Kohaku along with perennial male hosts Arashi. Industry gossip has them planning to wed so that the year end Kohaku and Mao’s Taiga next year enjoys the groundswell popularity from their high-profile coupling, plus they’ve dated long enough and both are of age to settle down. Good friend Oguri Shun tying the knot with Yamada Yu two years ago also pushes these two to settle down as well. This remains just a tabloid rumor but it’s too juicy not to share, plus it gives me a good excuse to drop an awesome Hana Yori Dango MV on you all along with stills from the HYD wedding scene.   • Gah, that ship will never sink lol. Seriously, they are just legend ... wait for it ... dary :D It's weird because it has been such a longtime since I watched Hana Yori Dango but I can't imagine those two apart and it's crazy because I know it's fiction vs real life and blablabla, but chemistry is so strong and sweet and it's freakin' HYD, y'know :D
    But yeaap', it seems to be too good to be true though XD. Well, if they have been dating for that long, it seems quite natural for the two of them to date so I AM FREAKIN' SPAZZING, ok :D

  • Matsujun always reminds me of Hiro Mizushima (who's married to the lovely talented Aya). They look like long lost brothers. I miss Hiro... :(

    • Yes i missed him too... i remember watching hanadan & liking him then while looking for his other work i realized he's taking a hiatus. I love ayaka too

      • His movies are so much better than his dramas although he totally owns Nanba senpai in Hanazakari no Kimitachi. And his last coffee cf before his hiatus is plain adorbs. I cant get enough of his smile.
