Kim Soo Hyun Unleashes his Lovelorn Dork Side in New Producer Stills

It’s Kim Soo Hyun‘s turn to take a solo bow for upcoming KBS drama Producer, after the production released solo stills of Cha Tae Hyun and Gong Hyo Jin last week. So far everyone looks good, and by good I mean looking perfectly suited for their character. Kim Soo Hyun actually looks younger than his age for once, he’s 27 year old this year but his character looks straight out of college. He’s going to be the newbie producer to the veterans, with Cha Tae Hyun producing 1 Day 2 Nights and Gong Hyo Jin being the PD for Music Bank.

Kim Soo Hyun’s newbie doesn’t come by the producer gig naturally, his character was originally in law school studying to become a prosecutor when he abandoned that career path to become a producer for the sake of loving a woman. I’m loving the return of dorky lovelorn Kim Soo Hyun, his character in this drama totally reminds me of when Sam Dong in Dream High went to music high school for Hye Mi, but in this case swap out producing TV shows for becoming a top idol.

Even though I find Kim Soo Hyun’s layered mushroom cap hairdo utterly atrocious in Producer, as it should be, I still love seeing it because I appreciate when a drama hair correctly showcases a character. It’s not so ridiculous as to go overboard but it definitely implies his character isn’t all that fashion conscious or savvy. I’m one of those who hated his hairstyle for You From Another Star, a quibble unrelated to whether I liked that character or his acting. That hairstyle was supposed to be fashionable but instead looked like a black squirrel’s tail fanned out and plopped over his entire forehead. Here his hairdo is dorky and it’s supposed to be dorky and makes me excited to see Kim Soo Hyun act to his heart’s content this dorky character rather than be stuck trying to capture the cool just because he’s so famous now.

  • I don't think anyone can surpass the ugly that was Dal Po's mop hair. Not even Sam Dong. KSH is definitely not afraid of ruining his top star image. I think he shines the most when playing dorky characters like in Dream High and Secretly Greatly.

  • I personally loved everything about YFAS - including Soohyun's hair. I love how in-character he looks here and while I always find him too young-looking for an 88-er, this time it suits his character perfectly.

  • Hopefully this hairstyle will change as the drama continues, like Dream High. Definitely anticipating this drama! IU's shots should be next :D

  • KSH is going to be a dorky character? Oh, that will be fun to watch! Also looking forward to Kim JK and the cameos by JYP & the others.

  • I noticed the Samdong vibes too, K!

I'm so excited for it. There were awkward moments in that teaser when Gong Hyojin fell asleep on his shoulder and he looked like he had no idea what to do about it. :) It's sweet. I like all of it so far. And I'm also excited that IU gets to play a non-sweet top star this time around. I wanna see her break out of her usual candy role.

This show is shaping up to be good. (Except for that rumor that the 12 eps will be 80 mins each. Ack!)

    • I was so excited when I saw your post, because I have been dreaming of a Kdrama adaptation of My Sunshine with one of my favorite actors as He Yichen.

Sadly, the weibo news is saying that MBC bought and will be broadcasting the Chinese version from 1st May every Friday night at 1am.

    • Not watching the drama but My Sunshine is nominated in Banff World Media Festival Rockie Awards with 30 Lives (Canada), Discovery of Love (Korea), East Enders (British), Grey's Anatomy (America) and Mysterious Summer (China).

This drama got positive reviews from film critics too. If they really wanna re-make this drama, it could be a MUST WATCH list for me.

  • HA! I TOTALLY agree with you about his hair in YFAS. It was so horrible I just kept wishing he would get it out of his face! So even though it does look dorky here, at least we can actually see him. lol
