Valentine’s Day feels apropos for the premiere of the C-movie version of It Started With a Kiss (Itazura Na Kiss) adaptation, this time starring TW-actor Darren Wang with C-actress Jelly Lin. It’s the umpteenth take on the story of a dim and persistent high school girl and her all consuming and ultimately successful crush turn romance with the smartest cutest guy on campus. Thanks to their parents being friends and the close proximity of cohabitation, of course, but we cares when the leads are written to feel like complementary halves that help patch what’s lacking in the other and make each other better. The movie is from the producer Chen Yu Shan who did the hit TW-movie Our Times which launched Darren Wang’s career a few years ago, and now he’s back in high school uniform in likely his last go-around for that age bracket. The preview looks cute and I think the story is lightweight enough the be enjoyable even truncated to a two-hour running time.

Too old to play high schoolers
Hahaha ? Seriously? A 27 y.o. dude (who looks his age or even older) still in high school? What kind of recycled high school does the Taiwanese offer?
Did the Korean had it with Playful Kiss? I only watched it recently. The drama was cute and the leads were visually great and compatible.
No! Korean version sucked because the acting was bad and Kim Hyun Joong ruined it. Itazura is still the best
He gave justice to the called Baek In Ho. Besides this type of drama don’t need brilliant acting. The drama only requires one-dimentional acting, to appear cold but cute. Couples chemistry was great and most importantly... the visual. FYI, it’s a high school drama in case you forgot.
The Korean version is more appealing and pleasing for me. It’s a personal choice. I only watched few episodes of the Japanese version from way way back but I find Japanese dramas boring in general.
Sorry I mistyped the character name... I meant Baek Sueng Jo
I think it's about time the boy be dim and the girl be brilliant.
My favorite version is the anime and the old version from itazura na kiss with kashiwabara takashi as naoki.
To me, nothing beats the first Taiwanese version with Aerial Lin and Joe Cheng. Can’t believe it’s more than a decade ago, in 2005.
agree.
Totally agree! Loved, loved, LOVED Ariel's performance! ?
Lol... at this point this drama will rival Jin Yong's novels in the number of screenplays this story will get.
At the very least, it is allowing younger actors/actress to have more experience and exposure playing a character that is so well known to the public at large.
Sad to say, I am not exactly looking forward to this. No one can act as Yuan Xiangqin better than Ariel Lin. She's a natural
I agree
