With the truncated K-drama airing slots, there really is less and less for me to look forward to. Luckily SBS has already commissioned melodrama VIP for October 2019 in the Mon-Tues slot, which means it’s returning that time period to dramas after doing variety for the summer. VIP stars Jang Nara and Lee Sang Yoon as a married couple working as department store directors in charge of VIPs. Their marriage gets thrown into a tizzy after an incident, and when the shit hits the fan it’s either split up or grow stronger together. I’ve not seen Jang Nara take on such a power woman type role, she’s usually the candy or frazzled working lady but here she commands the screen in the teaser preview and makes me kinda scared to be her enemy lol. Short take – teaser looks great and a juicy melo could be perfect for the fall.

She did play a "power woman" in "The Last Empress. Whether or not the character really cunning as the drama makes her out is debatable, but Jang Nara at least acted the part. The meta layer of her being vengeful and playing against type was what really made that role enjoyable.
Yes she was a power woman in The Last Empress. She started bubbly but she was not a candy. She never was. Near mid series, she went full power woman until the end.
Jang Nara is an actress that for me she never disappoints and her acting is flawless. I’ve warmed towards her slowly however the clincher was ‘One more happy ending’ with Jung Kyung Ho. However VIP looks promising and LSY is on the mix so I’ll give it a go.
