I’ve been re-watching K-dramas recently, kinda like a time travel backwards to whatever floats my fancy. An episode here, a few fast-forward to my favorite scenes there, one of the oldies but goodies I revisited was While You Were Sleeping. The impetus came when I saw the new drama stills for upcoming drama Start-Up, as it’s by the same screenwriter and also stars the same leading lady Suzy. The new stills show leads Suzy and Nam Joo Hyuk looking at each other warming at a bus stop (above) and on a rooftop at night. The bus stop scene in WYWS was important and pivotal to the leads re-meeting again as adults, and is used through the drama in two additional scene revisits with different perspectives. It both feels lazy that screenwriter Park Hye Ryun would pick a bus stop again for Start-Up, but then I don’t know the context yet so it could be wildly different. But my conclusion that I trust and believe in writer Park so much, especially when I rewatch any of her dramas and it brings me such feels still. I can’t wait for Start-Up, even if there are flashback moments to her other works.
