Well this is a breath of much needed fresh air. The South Korean government handed out a commendation today to two popular K-stars, actor Jo Jung Seok and actress Park Min Young. They both got the Presidential Commendation for being an Exemplary Taxpayer, and this is an annual thing as I’ve covered many stars who have gotten it in previous years. I think it’s important to stress the need for paying owed taxes, and I mean all of what’s owed, and if using pretty stars to do it as exemplars then I’m all for it. These two are the K-equivalent of a boy scout and girl scout anyway, hard working and always spoken highly of within the industry of cast and crew so you gotta think good behavior really does come from doing things right in all aspects. Congrats to these two cuties and now I wanna see them in a drama together!

Hello, Song Hye Kyo. Kidding!
I am genuinely curious though.. wasn't it her accountant's fault or something?? Why people still drag her for that??
Hahaha song tax evasion!I will remember that name.
what's with SHK and tax?, just pure curiosity
Tom, there was a snafu on her taxes that her accountant realistically probably messed up. It's not like big stars are doing their own I imagine. Korea is unforgiving with this stuff where celebrities are supposed to never mess up or hire accountants that mess up. I don't get it and I doubt I ever will. Having said that, I don't think anyone in Korea cares anymore, but it amazes me how often i-fans bring it up.
For Song Hye Kyo case, it wasn’t probably a tax evasion. She was probably entitled for those deductions she claimed on her tax return. It was just her accountant filed the tax return without gathering complete and proper documentations.
So when the tax office made a query, the media made it a big deal and probably didn’t give her a chance to explain.
In scenario like this, if the amount in question was not as material as the value of her brand and reputation, so might as well she complies. So I think that was what had happened to her so called “tax evasion scandal”.
I never considered the two of them in a drama and now this pairing is on my list.
I think Jo Jungseok is one of the best actors of Korea even though he does not do many movies and stays mainly in musicals and dramas. I love his love for acting and seems like a really good person with good principles. I would be genuinely upset if he ever gets in a scandal (I'm afraid to like any actor nowadays)
