Luo Yun Xi Pairs with Bao Shang En as New Period C-drama Shui Long Yin Gears up for November 2023 Filming Commencement

A new period C-drama has quietly finished casting and will start filming next month in November 2023. It’s called Shui Long Yin (水龙吟) which translates to Water Dragon Ballad and is adapted from a novel. Starring Luo Yun Xi and Bao Shang En, with supporting leads Xiao Shun Yao and Chen Yao, this cast is solid but not as buzz generating or has the liuliang volume so I only heard about it recently. But sometimes this is great, a strong acting cast without all that buzz baggage may turn into the best type of pleasant surprise when the drama airs.

  • China do need to have more newbies female drama idols...we are seeing lots of repetitions in higher budget dramas...

    • Hu Ge did highly-regarded period drama "Nirvana in Fire" when he was just a bit younger than Luo Yunxi is now, and Chen Kun did the excellent "The Rise of Phoenixes" at past 40, to name just two examples, so I don't get your point about how "still stuck in costumes at his age" is "funny."
I see that you're trying to shame Luo Yunxi as an aging liuliang star still stuck doing idol dramas, but no need to be ignorant as well as mean--costume drama doesn't automatically mean "entry-level production" in which it would be shameful for actors to participate past a certain age, like you're implying. There are plenty of excellently produced historical dramas that draw on talented leads aged over 30.

      • What Lol is trying to point out is that Luo exclusively stars in costume dramas, and occasionally modern idol dramas. Hu Ge and Chen Kun did take on costume dramas from time to time, but at the same time act in different genres, including more serious works. I'm guessing its because he's so underweight that he won't look convincing in many roles, so he's choosing to stick to what he looks best in.

      • Nirvana in Fire shouldn't be in the same sentence as anything LYX has done. It's embarrassing to even compare a serious actor like Hu Ge with LYX.

You may cry about ageism but it's a simple fact that costume dramas are age limited for main protagonists and he is pushing 36 already. He does only two types of dramas, idol modern and costumes of the less serious kind. It's funny because his fans are going wild about him when in reality, the guy is fast approaching one of the worst positions to be in cent, as he ages out of idol dramas with absolutely nothing to show for of any other kind.

    • what is wrong with still filming period dramas in period costumes? His viewers like him and he enjoys his job. You are allowing your envious emo to creep out...

Chill man, you dont need to watch his shows. It is your choice not not watch as it is his choice to act.

    • I'm sure he's crying while checking his bank balance. Just sobbing his heart out as he pays while shopping overseas.

    • I have the same question. He always look the same in all the costume dramas with heavy makeup. Not a fan of LUX at all. Even a crazy following rave him to the galaxy, I couldn't finish any of his dramas except two in which he played supporting roles. This guy needs to explore other genres to prove he's versatile.

      • @Somebody I have to agree with you here, I never understood the rave about him. The only series of his I finished and was impressed by was Ashes of Love, but then again that was YEARS ago. I will say OP's comment is kind of corny because there's nothing wrong with sticking to one genre of dramas, but he often struggles with weight issues and thinness so he always seems sickly, and I can never take his "powerful" xianxia scenes seriously.

      • He has been looking scrawny recently. It seems getting worse. He just doesn't look attractive to me and he's been always doing idol dramas in which I really expect to see visually charming MLs. LOL

      • To be honest, he has so many viewers in China that enjoys his dramas. He does better in period dramas then the modern roles he takes on. Again, he only need to change when he knows it is time to change, as for overseas viewers, you really dont need to watch his projects. We know what appeals to China, may not appeal to rest of the world.
As long he gets paid to lead a well budget script, he rather do that then not have his rice bowl in his hand.

I personally like female with stronger jaw bones...but Chinese loves their sharp narrow chin thus many will shave their jaw lines just to get the almond fave shape. I totally dont understand that concept.

They are who they are, the China will not change to suit the West and the West will not chance to suit China.

      • I am guessing the role of Chu Wanning will really suit him. His thin look and heavy makeup does fit the look of what a BL bottom would like. If only China censorship would let Immortality out of the dungeon.

    • I find period costume dramas better than modern ones and he looks good in all of them. He's laughing all the way to bank while you sit behind your monitor acting a fool. lol

  • I'm a little sad Chen Yao never got her big break after her splendid performance in Wu Xin: The Monster Killer as Yue Qiluo, now she's stuck doing supporting leads.

    • I agree; I became a fan of hers after that role. She's a good actress, but aesthetically I think she's too slim. So skinny that it distracts me visually. She needs to gain some weight.

    • I loved Chen Yao and and Zhang Ling Ye in "Maiden Holmes" which was also his debut drama. It's crazy to see how much their careers have diverged in just three years.

I remember her Cfans complained that her previous agency Tangren were terrible, gave her crappy dramas, didn't promote her, styled her badly. She finally left and joined a Luo Yun Xi's agency last year.
