K-actor Lee Seon Kyun Makes His Perp Walk to the Police Station with Solemn Apology to Media and Fans

I wish people would really think about the consequences before doing something, in South Korea doing drugs remains not just illegal but morally unacceptable to the majority of the populace. So for K-stars to see others brought low and still do it thinking they won’t be caught is such a fallacy of thinking to me. Or perhaps I’m just wildly risk adverse haha. K-actor Lee Seon Kyun faced the media for the first time since news broke of him being under investigation for illegal drug use. He went to the police station to sit for the police investigation and encountered gather media outside on his way in and out. He did stop to give a response and also bowed low in apology. I don’t doubt he’s apologetic but whether the domestic industry will let him come out of this scandal with his career intact remains to be seen.

  • I notice in South Korea a lot of illegal things which is also illegal elsewhere is made especially burdensome by being morally wrong especially if it involves a celebrity. And yet the same morally wrong angle doesn't seem to affect school bullies who physically abused school mate who grew up and faced no jail time and has a career and remains anonymous. So basically celebs are punished for being celebs. I don't see the same standards with other people of power or etc or did worse things. Yes he was wrong, he shouldn't take drugs, whatever drugs it may be. But to ruin his entire career and family as well? I suppose Robert Downey Jr is banned in South korea? Anyway a fall from grace is always such a high for people who innately hates successful people who now hates with a glee. That I notice in South Korean culture. Something isn't right with this society.

      • There were female actresses who were indicted for propofol but were not aware of actresses being indicted for drugs. I do think it would mean the end of their acting career unlike their male counterparts.

  • I alway found this public apology in front of police station very interesting... I dont know where else have this culture?

    • That's right. He owes no apology to the public but to his wife, kids, and other family members. This just shows perhaps how entertainment is treated and viewed very differently by the West and Asia. Entertainment in the west doesn't have so much impact on the whole society, but sports do.

  • Off of topic, But ,RIP Matthew Perry who fight all his life against his addictions. So sad, it's like losing a little part of my happy days . Chandler will live forever .

  • Drugs, like gambling, is an addiction. Some brains chase that feeling/need over and over again. I don't do drugs but to try to understand it, I liken it to playing a repetitive computer game. I know I can sit at the desk and repeat play a certain game over and over mindlessly and when I do that, the pattern flashes in my head during the times I'm not doing it, while I'm working, etc., and I would think about playing the same stupid game once I reach home. I would stop doing this for months, but when I start again.... So I kinda sorta understand "addiction," if not in a chemical way.

    • Anything can be addictive. Eating disorder, watching drama nonstop, and goofing around on SNS can all be considered addiction too. There must be the same certain neurotic process and chemical reactions in our brain cells connected to getting high, regardless of what we're getting high about.

  • Is it just the drugs or do the cheating/prostitution allegations have any weight to them? It all seems so muddy

    • Currently just drugs...but prostitution is not listed to public...I am unaware of it is on going investigation.
