C-drama Immortality Adapted From Cult Fave BL-novel Releases First New Still Getting Fans in a Tizzy that Perhaps it May Soon Air

Whomever is in charge of the media release of C-drama Immortality is the best kind of genius or troll. How else to explain the first release of a new still in over a year and the context is where Chen Fei Yu is choking a bloodied and chained up Luo Yun Xi mwahaha. This is straight up geared to to shot into the veins of all the lovers of the source BL-novel The Husky and His White Cat Shizun. The drama has been stripped of the overt BL elements but its still been shelved along with a few other anticipated BL-drama adaptations after Word of Honor basically became the last and biggest hit in the genre. Fans of 2Ha need to explain to me why the story is good and I’m asking whether the romance works regardless of whether it’s hetero or same sex and is simply as amazing a good story or it’s just good for those who love the danmei genre.

  • As a Chinese novel enthusiast, I've read Erha and despite many
flaws and inconsistencies it contains some of the best angst I've read in a romance novel. Excellent character writing and the anti-hero protagonist Mo Ran's character is especially well written. That said, the story is very dark, features violent r*pe (the protagonist r*pes other hero multiple times), all forms of abuse etc, so I'd advise to steer clear if any of this bothers people. But if someone can get past this, then the emotional payoff is great. The drama, if it ever releases, will be hella censored though so I'm not sure if it will be able to capture the raw intensity of the book. This is one book that's inadaptable.

      • No. Support the actual work by buying the official english translation by the publisher, Seven Seas. The english novel is titled The Husky & his White Cat Shizun.

      • Wait. Why would a novel whose protagonist is a serial rapist would be a fan favorite? This is sick! Even though this part will be obviously cut from the drama, I still wouldn't want to watch it!

      • I’m super late to reply but re: Nena’s comment (I don’t think I can reply to her directly, sorry), it’s one of those instances where things aren’t as simple as they seem. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who might read it but further on, the book elaborates on why Mo Ran (the protagonist) became evil - he wasn’t originally inherently a bad guy. Also, after being sent back and reborn into his life as a teen, he keeps his memories but mostly resets his temperament so he’s fairly likable and nice. Definitely not for everyone, but that’s why people like it despite the initial toxicity of the pairing.

  • Don't get too excited, the production company probably just released this on their own to maintain some form of hope for themselves.

And WoH may be the last, but it's not the biggest hit in the genre. All its data paled in comparison to The Untamed.

  • It won't.

The production company does this every once in a while to keep people hoping. It's not even close in reality.

  • I love Luo Yunxi but not excited about CFY. But I won’t watch it coz I still have to catch up on lots of other shows

  • A conflicting combination of the MLs for me. While I like Arthur Chen a lot, Leo Luo is not my cup of tea at all. TBH, after The Untamed, I can't warm up to any BL drama including WoH. I can't help comparing any BL drama with The Untamed and it turned out nothing else is comparable to The Untamed. Not a BL fan, but unlike most ppl around me who are homophobic, while I won't read any Danmei books, I will watch BL drama as long as it's executed artistically and acting is excellent. Ang Lee's Brokeback Mountain is the best example of a masterpiece of BL.

  • It’s not for everyone, and that’s fine. There are some very dark themes and immoral issues, but it’s also a work about redemption and forgiveness after the main character’s rebirth, which I think draws in readers and makes it all the more compelling. How does Moran, the main character, morph from a person being so vile and despicable to someone the reader can actually root for? The deeper a person gets into the story, the more it tugs at the heart strings which the author is known to be talented at doing. The characters in Erha have a lot of layers and are rather morally gray. As a reader, you’re not going to agree with every decision they make, but I appreciate that author’s characters aren’t just one dimensional. I’m not gonna give too much away. And on a last note, I wouldn’t categorize Moran as a serial rapist, but yes, a rapist, as his only victim is unfortunately his shizun.
