K-dramas

Shin Hye Sun Continues to Challenge Herself with Interesting Roles as She Signs on Next Drama Playing a Woman with Dissociative Identity Disorder

K-actress Shin Hye Sun is really going to back-to-back-to-back on K-dramas, not that I am complaining. She did See You in My 19th Life rolling right into Welcome to Samdalri and now has signed on for her next K-drama before Samdalri has ended. The drama is called To My Haeri (literal translation) and is from the screenwriter of Twenty Five, Twenty One, and When the Weather is Nice and has the female lead suffering the dual loss of her younger brother and the end of a long romantic relationship leading to her getting Dissociative Identity Disorder. She’s such an impeccable actress the only reason I have for not watching every single drama she’s in is that some stories don’t interest me. But this one totally does and I can’t wait to see her take on vulnerable condition.

  • I think it's the director of 2521 and the screenwriter of When the Weather is Fine. The character is definitely intriguing and sounds like a good chance to showcase her acting skills, but I really hope it's a better script this time. For me SYIM19L was so-so and while Samdalri isn't bad, it could have been better.

    • you should watch her other dramas, they were so good! Angel's Last Mission, Golden Life to name a few. I am also currently watching Five Enough even when she's not the main lead there.

  • It is nice to see actresses playing interesting characters. There is also Park Eun Bin who is in talk to play a psychopath that too opposie a veteran actor like Sol Kyung gyu.

  • Oh how times have changed.
In the old days (LOL), top actors would do one drama and then rest for what seems like a whole year w/out anything (there's really on 3 main stations). I'm glad, with streaming services/cable TV & success of Kdramas, Kactors are busier than ever. We see many stars with back to back to back projects and at times their drama/movies are airing around the same time. In addition, dramas are filmed way head (eliminating live shooting) which gives time for stars to do promotion, go on shows, do photoshoots.
Who knows how long this would last, so it's a good thing that actors taking advantage.

  • I like her a lot. So, I checked Welcome to Samdalri but dropped after 8 eps or so. WtS is slot paced and the genre isn't for me. I watched anyway thanks to her and Ji Chang Wook. They both along with the remaining cast are really good in the drama. It's a shame I'm just not the one for this type of storylines. But I'll check each drama she's cast as a FL. SHS has this very unique and quirky acting style that is very recognizable on screen. She somehow reminds me a lot of one of my favorite actresses, Gong Hyo-jin.

  • She was also very good in Mr Queen . I dropped some of her dramas , but she is an actress that i like . She knows how to convey emotions .

  • Trutfully i really enjoy her performances in samdalri more than in see you in my 19 life. I think it's also because samdalri is being better written character. Good luck with her future drama. It's crazy nowadays acctress or actor look so busy like can have 2 drama in 1 year as a leads. Back in the day, 1 years at most as leads is already consider alot.

  • D.I.D. is a very tricky condition to be used in a script, usually scriptwriters write up all kind of nonsense. I am pretty wary about this.

  • She's very good in WTS, especially in the emotional scenes, but the character itself isn't that memorable compared to some of her previous ones. This one though sounds like a rare complex role that will put her acting chops to the test. But DID is a bit of a sensitive topic, and people will be harsher on any misrepresentation of a mental condition in a drama compared to the past. I hope the writers did enough research on it before penning the scripts.

  • DID is the absolute worst condition to use because even the medical profession doesn't always agree about everything about it. The writers go wild and it usually turns into total nonsense.

I might check it out once it is done and I can see whether they've gone off rails or not. I can't handle stupidities when it comes to serious subjects.

    • Yeah, let's give it a try, I also can't stand with people that play around n not being serious with something serious, hopefully this upcoming drama turns good
