Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won Lead Talented Cast of Upcoming K-drama The Queen of Tears in Script Reading

So this drama is already done filming so these script reading stills are from likely a whole year ago. But its release means its closer to airing and indeed the K-drama The Queen of Tears is coming next month in March 2024. Starring Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won, I love them already but was even more pleased to see them surrounding by the top shelf supporting cast of Park Sung Hoon, Kwak Dong Yeon, and Lee Joo Bin. Everyone can act and has onscreen charisma aplenty hallelujah! The drama is also highly anticipated coming from screenwriter Park Ji Eun as her first drama since the mega hit Crash Landing on You and also reuniting with Kim Soo Hyun who did Producer and You From Another Star with her.

  • I think I prefer live shooting over pre-shot dramas because the writers were always able to adjust based on audience feedback. But then again, it wasn’t a good thing for the cast and crew. I can’t remember if CLOY was pre-shot but Producers and YFAS definitely weren’t. Either way, it’s fine because I’ve got full faith in this writer. She’s honestly written some of my most favourite dramas and I’ve never seen a bad one from her.

Super excited for this. The cast is phenomenal and I hope it’s lead roles for Kwak Dong-yeon after this. If Park Ji-eun has done one thing, it’s making second leads shine and changing their status to leads in their next projects.

Also - KSH being back with hair hopefully not on his forehead is so exciting lol. It’s been a while since he’s graced our screens and I can’t wait!

    • Sorry. What's wrong with hair on his forehead? He looks gorgeous that way with charming smiles. LOL.

    • CLOY wasn't entirely pre-shot. The drama premiered in December 2019 but I remember they filmed the border kiss (Ep. 5) during SYJ's birthday in January 2020 and they also shot most scenes set in South Korea during those days. CMIIW but from what I recall, their last filming day was around February 2020 and it was only a few days from their finale broadcast.

    • Even I too don't like this hairstyle much. I see this hairstyle in mostly kdrama and jdrama. I feel like this kind of hairstyle only suits them when they are in their 20s and not when they are 30s.

  • They are not done filming yet. The actress that plays Kim Soo Hyun’s sister said in a recent interview there’s still one to two episodes of filming. Can’t wait to see Kim Soo Hyun again. He takes on too few projects but they are almost always good.

    • Wish he did more tbh. Doesn’t even have to be dramas. Movies would be nice or variety. He’s way too picky but at least he’s not JIS or SJS level. That’s the only consolidation and the great projects ofc.

    • Yep, some casts are still receiving food/coffee trucks recently. But man, that is one long in production filming… almost nearing a one year mark. Chinese be doing 4-5mnths for like 60eps period drama lol.

  • KJW is very pretty but I don't find her and KSH compatible. She has a mature vibe to her & KSH just has this boyish look to him. Hopefully the drama will change my mind.

    • Pretty sure that’s in sync with their characters tho - her being a strong woman who grew up in a sort of cut throat chaebol environment and him being from a small town with warmth around him.

Plus KSH’s most iconic chemistry was and will always be w/ JJH who’s a lot more mature than KJW. He was great with SYJ too (hate to admit it). In the end, it’s KSH, he can change his vibe at the drop of a hat so think they’ll be okay.

    • Testament to her awesome acting skills, I remember when she was first cast in dots people were hesitant on her chemistry with jingoo as she was early 20s and played a teen in heirs only a few yrs prior and she made that work, yr after the gave a younger vibe with her chemistry with PSJ. Shes just that versatile.

    • Not sure if there's going to be a love triangle, but I'm already shipping her with Park Sung Hoon 🤭

    • I get the same vibe from her too. She gives off this very melo/boring/sad mood. Other actresses may not be a better actress, but they can give off a very optimistic/happy mood when one watches them. There’s nothing wrong, it is just who she is & it shows because clearly she has not been given a more diverse characters in her resume.

      • More diverse characters in resume KIM JI WON? Seriously?
Rachel Yoo, Choi Era, Yoo Min Jung says hello. Every her new character has nothing alike with the last.

  • KJW is obviously beautiful but there is something about her that makes her not shine enough. Her aura is that of an old lady- boring but contented. Idk.

  • I have to say I agree with everyone else. KJW always seems like she’s either bored or sad, she doesn’t have an exciting aura. I think it must be her eyes? But to be fair, I have enjoyed all the dramas I’ve seen that she’s been in.m and she knows how to pick her roles, such an effective actress.

  • haha to be fair I am not into KSH visual..not ugly but not striking either just ok look for me. And also I was surprise to watch a video recently that he has actually undergone PS? It was his nose and that knetz call him ugly before? And yeah KJW has this mature aura to her that I actually like and I preferred her leading men with manly looks like PSJ, SSK and JCW. It complements her beauty more but we'll see. And I do like that she's not touch her face bcoz I've watched an old drama of her. a 2011 tv series called What's Up and she still has all the facial features more than a decade ago just a bit mature now. Still excited for the drama and hopefully it'll be on netflix.

    • I think Kim Soo Hyun is natural but yeah, I've never understood the hype for his visuals. He's very boyishly cute, but not stunning or super handsome. But I like him for his acting anyway, and not visuals. It's all subjective, what you someone finds handsome might not appeal to me and vise versa, so I hope I didn't offend anyone lol

      • KSH's looks aren't on delicate side that a lot of Asian ppl appreciate more. But his strong online presence, unique aura, and very recognizable acting styles all combined just make him stand out. His performance has been very consistent, which is rare among his peers. It's like rest assured to watch a drama with him as a leading man cos he has this credibility and reputation to deliver and meet expectations of viewers. I consider him more like a male version of Kim Eun Bin. You can disagree about his visuals about which we all have subjective preference. But his acting chops and resume are there that ppl can't just dismiss as wish.

  • This cast is just amazing, Ive loved all of them in something.
Lol I just noticed that soohyun female leads are always ott cocky type of characters 🙈 and he's the stoic type. I'm so curious on his and KJW's characters will gel.

    • Hmm... I don't think KJW will be ott here, her performances have always been very nuanced. For that reason, she was my personal favorite among the Baeksang Best Actress nominees last 2021. Can't imagine her going full Cheon Song Yi lmao. And yes, I'm so excited to see her chemistry with the two male leads!

  • Eeeps!! So exciting. Hoping for the teaser at least to come out soon. There were snippets on Twitter but not sure where those came from.

Kim Soo Hyun’s finally back! He does like 1 drama every 3 years or something 😅 but at least they’re always gems. I kinda keep picturing IU here because what a huge what if. Next time, I’m sure. For now this looks so good!!

    • Ah, IU is such a huge if only for me too. I’m still not over her passing on this one. KSH and her have SO much chemistry in everything they’ve done so far (and there’s a lot of it lol). Super disappointed but fingers crossed they’ll get a proper drama with a happily ever after soon. Maybe a sageuk - it’s been a while since they both have done one.

      • Still can’t believe Park Ji Eun first casted IU and Kim Soo Hyun as a married couple. Wonder how they would’ve acted out more intimate scenes being long time friends in real life. There’d be minimal kiss scenes since IU seems pretty conservative in those scenes.
