Netflix Animated Movie K-Pop Demon Hunters Becomes Biggest K-content Breakout of July 2025
So there were two big K-ent drops the last tw0 weeks, but an out-of-nowhere third arrival has claimed the throne on buzz and popularity. Netflix released Squid Game 3 at the end of June and last weekend top girl group Blackpink kicked off their world tour in South Korea. Both were expected to be the biggest K-content releases and got a lot of coverage in the news, with BPs SK leg sold out and SQ3 while not as popular as the first two seasons still got lots of talk about it and topped the non-English shows. But the biggest Korean entertainment themed hit this month has turned out to be the under-the-radar American produced K-pop animated movie K-Pop Demon Hunters, released on Jung 20th with comparatively little promo and buzz and has since turned into a legit juggernaut. The soundtrack debuted on Billboard 200 in the #8 spot, with multiple singles like “Your Idol” and “Golden” hitting one and two on the US Spotify chart, setting a K-pop record that BTS and Blackpink hasn’t even done. It’s been the #1 global movie in Netflix for a few days last week now with 23 million views and rising. You can’t look anywhere on TikTok and Instagram without seeing posts about it and it’s transcended age and nationality to become a global sensation. It’s super fun, cute, actually emotionally on point, and above all else feels fresh. Go check it out if you want to see what the buzz is about.

They Got Ahn Hyo seop and Lee Byung Hun doing the promo on board and marketed that they are doing the voice dubbing in Netflix channel, so I don’t it’s minimal promo! I follow it because, well hyoseop is doing the voice dubbing. Their target is definitely kdrama and kpop audience and south korea audience, But they might be didn’t expected it will be a major hits.
This movie was really enjoyable. I love Golden and Soda Pop, the songs are so catchy. It’s topping global song charts too.
More than the animation and fun dance moves, it has a lot of heart and touches a deep human emotion and insecurities that everyone has.
The funny insert of Ahn Hyo Seop’s Business Proposal BG was a good one. I also love how they integrated the different tourist location spots in the background. Even the small details like these were well thought out.
The soundtrack “set a Kpop record that BTS and Blackpinks hasn’t even done..” The hype is definitely hyperbole. LOL. Koala just revealed herself never been a fan of Kpop. FYI. BTS and Stray Kids both had 6 albums ranking top 1 on Billboard 200 that none of other K groups or solos can match.
The Netflix marketing is ludicrous. lol.
She meant they broke the record for US Spotify.
Loved it! It was so well done. The art, music, story. Props to the whole team! I listen to the songs daily and recommend it to everyone!
