Park Min Young in Talks to Star in K-drama Confidence Man KR Adapted From Popular J-dorama

I don’t know how K-actress Park Min Young keeps managing to land promising dramas in recent years where there has been fewer and fewer of them. Earlier this year she delivered the first big K-drama of 2024 with Marry My Husband and then she took a few months off and looks to be coming back soon. She’s been offered the female lead in K-drama Confidence Man KR, which is a remake of the J-dorama Confidence Man JP, which did well enough to spawn a LP and then multiple movies after. The story is about a charming female con artist and her gang of con artist cohorts as they pull off elaborate and entertaining heists. I can totally see this work as well transferred to the K-drama style of storytelling and perhaps breathe fresh air into the franchise.

  2. I really like park min young. People just hate her for petty reason. There are a lot of actors/actresses doing the same role and genres every time, and people only just criticize pmy. I hope this will be another hit from her.

    • The audacity, it’s so annoying seems like she gets hate for being the queen of chemistry another thing that is underrated is how all her male leads shine with her,na inwoo is a recent example, I remember noone was excited for this pairing and look what happened. Sure she does romance often but I don’t see people having the same energy for those that stick to certain genres too like lee jehoon (who I adore don’t get me wrong). Also, it seems like alot of actors lee Jehoon, LGJ and KNG for example and many others for actresses I’ve heard hyojoo also said she wants to do romance ,it’s not PMY’s fault she gets these countless offers.

      • They have a point, guys can do same genre crime etc noone questions their versatility but god forbid an actress does the same. It’s quite strategic too, doing romcoms while you still can due to the ageist nature of the industry.

      • @Kells
Lee Je-hoon has always been questioned on his ability to do rom coms. I.e. he has zero chemistry. He recently talked about wanting to do romance with KES or PJE which I found utterly audacious and ridiculous given his long standing record. These two star writers only work with A-list actors who have chemistry. Unless he wants a role like LDH’s in The Glory.

The other actors mentioned are simply ridiculous. LJG’s literal last drama was a genre romance, not some crime drama. KNG is doing a comedy next in Fiery Priest 2, again – not a crime drama. This isn’t about women vs men. This is about versatility of roles. But we all know PMY has been typecasted for years on end now. So romances is probably the only script she ever gets offered. If she wants to work, she’s got to take those on. This new one is more female centric (thanks likely to MMH’s success) which I say is a win for her.

      • Although LGJ and KNG seemed to have been cast for quite a few crime dramas, their characters weren’t all the same in all the stories. They were able to showcase great acting with nuanced portrayal of their characters. They were very convincing to tell the story of the character in each of these crime dramas. At the end, that’s what fans look for. LGJ, for example, was the soul of Flower of Evil. For such a psychological crime drama, it’s very impressive he could pull off that complicated character, who fooled viewers around about who he was in the plot. They were very convincing to tell the story of the character in each of these crime dramas and their acting sell. Another example of great acting is Shin Ha Kyun.

Some famous actors, however, appeared to have good chemistry with their leading ladies but were almost always outshone and overshadowed by their FLs’ great acting, only proving themselves impressive in a certain unique genre eventually. LOL. How does that imply they are more versatile than actors like LJG or KNG or SHK? The comparison is laughable!

      • @somebody

Shin ha kyun was awful in a romcom movie he did can’t even remember the name of it, it’s with Song jihyo, it shows that not everyone has that knack for romance. Maybe the reason they stick to those genre is cause they’re not good. A few comments also have mentioned lee jehoon as an example but I like him in tomorrow with you, hmm.
On your last paragraph, there’s a few actors like that haha,no point in saying who as it’ll ruffle feathers for sure.

      • @Kailey b, that’s my point, meaningless to make comparison.

I’d risk getting pile-on again. A lot of KSH fans hail him to be a versatile king with great chemistry with all the actresses he costarred with, and therefore qualified to be considered A-list. I disagree about his versatility. He’s only excellent in The Moon Embracing the Sun and I think that’s his best genre because of his intonation and tone of speaking the language? He’s weak in One Spring Night, much less impressive compared with LJG in Flower of Evil, not to mention other veteran actors like SHK in Beyond Evil. Therefore, what’s the point to say these actors like LJH, LJG, and KNG etc. are not versatile enough and could only take up thrillers or crime dramas? They are GREAT and better than others like KSH in that specific genre and that’s what a drama fan like me is looking for, not the lame performance of KSH in OSN or other romcoms where he was overshadowed by his costars. LOL.

There are very rare versatile actors in showbiz. No need to dismiss certain actors who have found their own niche in a specific genre that is not your cup of tea, be it crime or thriller or action or fantasy or romance. While you appeared to dismiss these actors who don’t appear versatile to you and whose works are not appealing to you, others who appeared to have good chemistry with actresses looked totally like a rookie to me in the acting department in crime dramas. LMAO. People have different preference and therefore appreciate different actors. That’s fine.

      • Haha, you actually went there. At least you liked him in something; it’s so frustrating when you like an actor in one role, try to follow them, and they end up disappointing. I don’t like him in anything, even though he’s paired with actors I like. I’ve come to terms with that—there are just some actors you can’t stand, and nothing will change your mind. I feel that way about Suzy and AHS too, among others.I like Kim Woobin, but I doubt he could make me sit through a Suzy drama. Btw one Spring Night isn’t that Jung Haein’s drama.
Agree with your point of versatility, if an actor crafted a certain niche and is good at it why not carry on, Hollywood actors like Jason Bateman, Jason stratham and keanu reeves have thriving careers and pick projects based on their strengths.

      • @Somebody

Oh! I think none of Kim Soo Hyun’s fans are even aware he was in One Spring Night! Did you just make up some random performance in your pretty little head so you can criticize him…? Cant even be a typo since you wrote that twice. Impressive imagination L M F A O.

YOU bending over backwards in your attempt to prove Kim Soo Hyun is not an A lister or a versatile actor or whathaveyou doesn’t change reality. Your opinion on the matter doesnt change reality and neither does his fan’s opinion. And reality is that the industry considers him an A-lister and have done so for the past 12 years, boo. His Baeksangs nominations and wins speak for themselves. All the awards he has outside Baeksangs speak for themselves. The ratings of his dramas speak for themselves. That, is what being an A-lister means. Not Somebody’s personal opinion LOL.

      • @Somebody, SO TRUEEEEEEE! KSH was SO *overshadowed* in OSN that I didn’t even see his face, hear his voice or feel his presence for a second in that drama. His performance must’ve been sooooo lame that I erased him from my memory 🤣🤣🤣

      • @Picklesandtomato Stole the words from my fingers on A-listers LOL. Also HAHAHAHA how utterly convenient that @Kailey b, who questions someone’s AUDACITY to give an opinion on an actress’ career, is a JCW Stan who also can’t stand KSH. It’s like a perfectly fitting puzzle just coming along, pfffftttttt.

Oh and I am indifferent to KSH and have in fact not seen him in anything since The Producers (which he was great on), but anyone who claims he is anything but an S-tier actor is someone not to be taken seriously. It is so out of touch from reality, it’s a battle between utter ridiculousness and hilariousness.

      • Somebody:
Pile-on? Im a KSH fan but honestly give no sh*ts on what a rando feels about him, or him being overshadowed & lame in a unicorn drama or actual drama. Its such an unpopular opinion that doesnt impact KSH in the slightest. He has all the acknowledgement I care about as a fan. You do you (:

      • LOL. My bad. I admit the mistake. I intended to say One Ordinary Day in which he was a murder suspect.

      • @Pickle&Tomatoes, you obviously missed my points. And you like many visiting this site, can’t help bringing excessive mental gym again to gaslight me. LOL. I’m a fan of KSH and I hope he does dramas like Moon Embracing the Sun again. But I have my own taste and assessment of his acting in other dramas that I don’t appreciate that much. Him recognized by others or not has no bearings on my review of his dramas and acting. I watch dramas to entertain myself after all, not to pamper fangirls’ obsession or recognize critics’ reviews. It’s all personal. You don’t have go extra miles to sell your definition of A-listers in my face. I don’t buy it. FAIL. LOL.

For me, KSH isn’t a king in the acting department as many rabid fans declare. He’s a good actor but he has his weakness. I like him as many other K actors equally. For me, he’s not that extraordinary to the point everyone should worship him. LOL. I don’t think he’s better than SJK, PSJ, LJG, NGM, and even JCW, to just name a few. LOL.

      • @somebody

First time ever, I started agreeing the comment you wrote on the topic @Kells and I were discussing. But how on brand of you to then completely lose your marbles and sprout BS. Someone was kind enough to g-i-v-e you the definition of an A-lister. No one needs to s-e-l-l it, just like no one needs to sell the definition of a grape. If you want to delude yourself into thinking a grape is a crane that can crush buildings, thats your discretion. The only thing it would prove is how much of a FAIL your brain is, as usual.

You meant to say “OOD where he was a murder suspect”… right, OOD was a rom com where the female lead overshadowed him. LOL. The risk of pile on was never on your opinion of KSH. Even as a casual viewer, I know how idiotic your comment is. The risk was entirely on you making a fool of yourself. You took it, as usual. It showed you, as usual.

      • @Gg, I got it you had a fetish to gaslight me with words not out of my mouth but yours as you had done in other threads. When did I say KSH was overshadowed by his female costar in OOD? That was a male centric drama with two ML, him and CSW. FL wasn’t significant. He was indeed overshadowed by JJH in My Love from the Star and SYJ in It’s Ok to Not Be Ok.

Get things straight first with your tiny brain next time before getting excited to be engaged in a valid debate! LOL. No offense for my brash wording cos you obviously were excited to instigate a fight! I’m eye for eye.

      • @gg This somebody has rocks in her skull. She keeps imagining herself to be fighting KSH fans yet everyone responding to her are neutrals HAHAHA. I will be totally ok with my bias starring in a drama like MLFTS and being apparently overshadowed by his FL if he can be legit this levels popular. Haven’t seen his new dramas but Wiki tells me KSH was nominated for Baeksangs for both the roles shes complaining about, hulzza. Imagine if she thought he wasn’t overshadowed. She must be expecting him to win all the Baeksangs he was ever nominated for. If you want an anti, it would be nice to have someone like Somebody lmao.

      • @Millie, what’s your point reiterating how popular and award worthy KSH is? You folks had trouble stopping excessive mental gym about me. That’s why you keep fighting for nothing at best and bullsh*t at worst. 🤣 I’ve never said KSH wasn’t popular. Neither have I ever argued he’s not A-list. But your tiny brain cells have no capacity to have peace with opinions that not all his fans admire his acting in all the dramas. I just don’t like his acting in those two popular dramas and I stand by my opinions that his FLs in these two dramas outshone him. NYT film critics even praised Seo Yea-ji “mesmerizing” in IONTBO. LOL. They didn’t compliment KSH, but they did about SYJ. As a fan of KSH in METS, I agreed with NYT’s critics. His nominations in several awards have nothing to do with my independent review of his acting and dramas. Calling me antis because I don’t like all his works? It’s ok for ppl to randomly praise KSH to the moon, even in a post “irrelevant” to him (using the same idiotic wording out of some foaming mouths LOL) but whoever is critical of his acting or works would be labeled antis? That’s a syndrome of mental illness showing trouble tolerating diverse views and should live in North Korea or China where they fit. LMAO

Enough being said, but it’s obvious Kpopper-minded ppl with authoritative mentality have no savvy to comprehend. I wonder why Asian fans are always so zealous to police comment threads with fetish to shut up ppl?

      • @Somebody So MANY words, oooooooohhhhhhh. But first off, when you write too much, you veer into gibberish. Its a particular trait of yours from what I noticed in other posts especially when you use big concepts without knowing their meaning.

So let’s keep it simple so as to not overload your brain too much. I’ll answer your first question. My point on reiterating KSH’s popularity and awards and status in the industry is actually quite simple if you had any sense. The drama you talk of where he was overshadowed? He was nominated for BOTH those dramas by an awarding body that is the most respected in Korea and what all actors aim to be a part of. The Baeksangs. I suppose KSH is that talented to be nominated even when he was so “overshadowed”. I have not watched IOTNBO but not like SYJ’s “mesmerizing” performance won her anything. Guess she didnt mesmerize the experts like she did some NYT editor…

You go around accusing others of mental illness because they are telling you how ridiculous you are being? Yup, only mentally ill people make claims like that. You clearly want to rile up KSH fans, yet the one fan who even bothered responding to you was way more chill than the neutrals. It goes to show just how many like him outside his fandom. Your individual opinion on KSH’s acting is completely yours to make. You calling out that you think his fans are “rabid” and “praising him to the moon” is also your call. If you had expressed your opinions respectfully, bet it would have been a fruitful discussion. Too bad that was not your intention. Therefore, others calling you out on the very obvious bullshit is our call. So you keep foaming in the mouth with anger over how everyone loves and adores KSH. I’m glad that the person you secretly have such a fetish for happens to be one of Korea’s biggest and most respected actors. This wouldn’t be half as amusing if the conversation was over some B-lister.

I’m off on real life duties, but worry not, I’ll be back later. And before you start accusing me of trying to shut you up, no no, you keep yapping. I’m happy to continue this for the time being. By the end of it, you might even make a KSH fan out of me!

      • @Somebody

Eye for an eye? Audacious of you to think you even have one to give. Don’t give it. Use it and read your own previous comment. Amusing for you to think I’d be offended by an uneducated thug. LMAO. You admitted that KSH is a top A-list actor who is also immensely popular. As Millie put it, everyone loves him and that turns you into a raging batshit imbecile. What I wanted was for you to admit what you already did. I have what I want, moving on then.

Millie – thanks! You got the teenager to an accept what she hates with all her might and it was pretty easy too LOL. I’m good here and you should be too. Next response you get from the teen will be about how we should move from North Korea to Mars.

      • @Gg “Raging batshit imbecile” – LOL I’m stealing that because bull, meet eye HAHAHHA. I was expecting a longwinded gibberish answer from her but seeing at to how so many others called her out since, she tucked her tails and chickened off it seems.

Oh wells, that is that I guess. I was having fun tbh. Anyway thanks for the chat on A-listers – that was def even more fun lol.

      • @Millie, audacious to bitch about me writing too much while you immediately spewed even longer paragraphs of gibberish! LMAO. (Quoted “audacious” from a few brash but obviously dimwitted loonies on this site because only those who are foaming at their mouths losing control of adrenaline would use such a laughably derogatory wording to others! But here you go! “Audacious” back to whom it belongs to LOL.) Hypocrite much!!!!!

What trash you rambled is so predictable and boring! For such long-winding lectures that are no way to see any meaningful endings in any forums, which are insignificant nor useful to my real life or professional work, I just don’t bother to view the whole bag of garbage. LOL. Have fun on your delirious journey! I have zero interest and patience to accompany you in that trip! You already have enough like-minded loonies on your wagon. LMAO.

    • @gg & millie, must be fun at parties? Can’t stop seething? LOL. Trolls close rank together but look collectively asinine! You just made yourselves fools like that. LMAO.

  3. Queen minyoung is back 😍, wonder who else will be cast with her. Can’t wait though, maybe this will be the kdrama to get me out it my slump.

  4. I really want to see PMY work with fellow A-listers, enough with the nugu’s lol . I saw that this weekend she and KSH are both in LA. I never manifested them as a pairing before, but now I see the vision. Imagine their chemistry and the kisses! If it happens, I want to see him dress like his “Queen of Tears” character—basically looking expensive. On topic, excited for her but with all these high profile recent casts I want the same for her and for her to work with A list writers and directors.

      • Why not?

They’re both talented and experienced actors who generate chemistry with their costars and can hold their own. With a good script and directing, it could be the makings of a hit.

      • Same. For completely different reasons as you have, I most definitely hope not.

      • I never doubt PMY; she even made Na Inwoo attractive. It’s him I’m meh on. I have a list of other male leads I’d rather see her work with.

      • Fortunately, it’s not up to you. Every K-drama fan would rejoice, they’re both renowned as the best kissers. For female leads, it’s definitely PMY, and for male leads, KSH is one of the best (though PSJ and JCW are hard to beat).

      • Lol, you don’t need to worry about it. Highly doubt KSH or any other A lister will be working with someone like PMY unless she was in a supporting role capacity. When was the last time she had an A list costar? 6 years ago maybe?

      • @butterly
Out of curiosity why not, they’re both so good at romcom so there’d explosive chemistry.

    • I can see PMY being PJE’s next female leads, regardless of how we view her work all her FL’s have been top-tier. If PJE wants a guaranteed chemistry queen PMY is it. But also PMY needs break from romance, she needs to be in something like glory. Yes I also hope she works with KSH, QOT didn’t have enough romance, plus she’s not shy with intimate/scenes scenes, which I feel maybe KJW is not comfortable thats why we rarely had any in QOT.

      • Nah lol jiwon is very comfortable with those scenes, watch lovestruck in the city you’ll be shook. Qot had so many kiss scenes as shown in the special episodes not sure why it was cut lol, it caused alot of outrage too haha.

      • @millie

Says the pathetic voyeur who obsessively follows the careers of actors they don’t even care about. There’s no logic in that lol just pure loser behavior.

      • @kaileyb such a clown you diss many actors and I’m obsessed. Your girl is mediocre deal with it,your hypocrisy stinks.

      • @doe ewwwww a SYJ Stan calling Jiwon mediocre and her stans tasteless, the audacity lmao your girl is expressionless, toxic and jobless, good luck 😘😘😘😘 and PSJ >>>KSH, deal with it lol

      • He wasn’t a bonafide A lister at the time he starred with her, I would say he was transitioning to A lister status at that time. If I may venture to say, that drama really put him on the map and promoted his A lister status and Itaewon Class cemented it.

      • @Lay so you must be ewwwwww who posted below so how about you try and stick to one user name it’s fairer and easier to follow. What a muppet. Always bringing up SYJ because you’re insecure and threatened. Eve is on Netflix right now so it must burn knowing it was made 2 years ago and is getting recognized internationally. Deal with it. Fun times!!

  5. I too am fond of Park Min Young…I have watched her grow from Unstoppable High Kick in 2006 as a side character to where she is now.. In every role, one can see she really does her homework for each character she takes on. I may not enjoy all her dramas but many are down to scripts.

I am happy to watch her slowly recover from such a bad year. Looking forward to her new show.

    • She has delivered many hit dramas, from Sungkyunkwan Scandal to City Hunter to Healer to Secretary Kim to the most recent Marry My Husband. At least, a lot of international fans like her enough to check it out when there’s any update about her new drama.

Some commenters said she’s not A-list. An argument like that has no bearing at all. It’s for production team, writer, and PD to decide if she is A-list or not. From my perspectives, at least she had picked interesting projects and those end results were good enough to have great entertainment values.

      • I am aware she may not appeal to many..as you can see, this post have generate so many comments on both sides…wow.

But as I watched her in my veery early drama days…she have plant a seed in me…thus I like to watch her growth. There a few others like Eun-Hye Yun who does that for me.

So I can be bias towards her…🤣🤣 but if the drama is boring or unenjoyable for me…I will still drop it.

      • @HL, dramas mostly cater to specific markets of audience that producers target. No drama is perfect, nor is any acting cos our own preference is all subjective. While one actor/drama is great to certain fans, it may turn others off, e.g. Queen of Tears. I’m personally not so much the one for romcom unless it has a unique charm but I’m a fan of genres in fantasy/thriller/suspension and now legal/crime. So from my perspectives, it’s such huge bigotry for ppl to dismiss actors who have strong resumes in these genres without much romance designed in plots and such biased hubris to only elevate actors who are romance kings/queens. Vice versa. How weird!

  6. I like her but sadly I don’t really like her dramas anymore. Since What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim, I think she’s trying too much for the style of her characters and a lot of times they look out of place. Forecasting Love and Weather was her last drama I loved.

    • 💯 She does the same style and characters for god knows how many dramas in a row now. It’s so tiring. Before MMH, the last hit she had was Secretary Kim and that was eons ago. Funnily enough, that in itself was a version of most of her other roles.

      • Can’t blame her. Female lead roles for actresses over 30’s are extremely limited. Unless she wants to play “female lead but is actually supporting character narratively to the male lead” roles. Except for a few, other actresses her age are playing the exact same roles unless they are taking long hiatuses between acting. Some of them I haven’t even seen in years but when and if they do come back I expect they’re offered the exact same type of roles PMY is getting.

      • @Guest That’s absolutely not true for A list actresses. Han Hyo-joo, Park Bo-young, Kim Tae-ri,, Kim Go-eun all have done various different roles.
Even actresses like Nam Ji-hyun, Kim Ji-won, IU and Suzy have alllllll taken a variety of roles where they are absolutely the main leads. PMY might not be getting those offers however.

      • Have you even watched when the weather is fine, lol sure that performance is like her romcom ones. Also just because an actor takes versatile roles doesn’t make them a good actor. Pmy has carved her niche and is effective at it, she’s only started doing romcom after wwwsk before that she did a variety of genres and showcased versatility. Of the actresses u mentioned some of them do similar genres come off it, and if you’re counting by one role then same goes for PMY in when the weather is fine.

      • @Kailey b oh yeah? Just because actresses take on versatile roles, that apparently doesnt mean they are good actresses? So, tell me then. Who amongst the actresses I’ve mentioned are not “good actresses”? They have ALL been nominated for Baeksangs in the past 5 years minus NJH who is not in her 30s. Let’s compare that to PMY who has been in the industry doing back to back projects all the time – not different from JCW btw – hasn’t been nominated for a single Baeksang in almost 15 years. Her roles have meandered the same type for the past decade which shows in her non existent list of accolades that count.

And to answer your questions, I have seen WTWIS, have you? Because if you count THAT as different from her other roles, then I want that coolaid you’re drinking 😂

      • Queen for seven days, A new leaf, Glory Jane, remember war of the son, healer.

So can we also complain how most actors have the same style in their dramas? Those actors who always play in a thriller/action genres?

      • You’re too obsessed with “A listers” lmao. The real a listers are won bin/lbh/jun ji hyun.but, yeah fine.you do you

There’s nothing wrong if she hasnt been paired with your so called “a listers”.
Her last drama was successful anyway cos of her hardwork.your so called “a listers” worked with non a listers too anyways.

They have their own time to shine.

      • @Bobbie Brown and Lily (because you are both the same person. Try changing your email next time you wanna pretend you’re different ppl lmao)

The first person who brought up “A-lister” was a PMY fan. Just FYI 🙂

      • @gg – right. how some diehard stans are so desperate to write multiple comments but can’t even remember to change their emails, like how embarrassing 😂 it’s so obv too w/ the writing style and lack of spaces and punctuations. several other comments below belong to the same person too. “beets”, anyone?

I like pmy, but I agree with @Millie and @Sayaris. same characters, same styling, same acting in all her dramas. she doesn’t even diversify through movies or anything. she is fully capable of more but she always chooses romance anyway. so many female centric dramas with minimal romance are coming out in the past few years like knight flower, glory, good partner, dose of sunshine, little women, agency, mother, wonderful world just to name some. but she seems hesitant to anything outside her comfort zone. I hope she gets scripts to dramas like that.

      • Park Boyoung, before Daily Dose of Sunshine, was doing fantasy romance. Was she not typecast? The role she got nominated for, Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, was not exactly challenging. She deserved a nomination for Daily Dose of Sunshine, which is a shame.

And Suzy, lol. After 14 years in her career, she’s getting away with bland acting despite writers and directors catering to her limited ability. Now, with one role, she’s suddenly an excellent actress?

All that obsession with Baeksang… the fact they never nominated Taeri and Goeun for their masterful performances, and constantly snubbing Lee Jehoon, says it all. Many agreed JCW should’ve been nominated for Worst of Evil, but oh well, at least he’s thriving.

I really don’t get your fixation on downplaying PMY, saying her wtwif role is same as her usual charming romcom role. You might want to get your eyes checked! She’s proven to be a good actress and starred in the critically acclaimed Queen for seven days and Sungkyunkwan Scandal, with the latter giving her a baeksang nom.

      • @millie

Park minyoung is hardly the best actress, but she’s so much better than Nam Ji Hyun and Suzy, let’s be real. Ji Hyun has done so many projects, yet none have made an impact. IU is good but still has a lot to prove.

Most of the criticism towards Park minyoung is for doing female-centric roles, so where’s the criticism for ji-won ? All her shows are romances and male focused, like IU she needs to prove herself. Hyo Joo, even with all her awards, still gets mixed reactions to her acting. But what’s admirable is that she goes beyond and challenges herself especially in physicality and doesn’t care about looking pretty. Park minyoung is her age, and I can’t imagine her playing a mom and not wearing heels . I hear in her new role she’ll be like a tomboy, finally!

      • @Kailey b Here’s the difference you cannot process it seems. Critically acclaimed actors and actresses missing out on one Baeksang nomination doesn’t render them with zero nominations in well over a decade LOL. True critically acclaimed actors and A-listers have multiple Baeksangs to their names. At the very least they don’t have only one that’s 15 years old lmao. Also where on earth did you get the info that they “never” nominated KTR and KGE? Are you okay? KGE WON this year’s Baeksang best movie actress. KTR WON 2 years ago for 2521. She did not get nominated this year because the other actresses were that good, but that one lack of nomination still leaves her with many in the past 5 years, let alone a decade. And it’s hilarious how you bring up JCW. Lmao another “thriving” actor who takes on almost every project he gets offered and yet has not a single Baeksang nomination to his name. His fangirls (i.e. those “many agreed peeps”) screamed murder when he did not get nominated for Worst of Evil at Baeksangs this year when he most definitely did not deserve it. Which was clearly proven when he proceeded to get completely disregarded by the Blue Dragon Series awards. The awards does not even take nominate broadcast dramas so he should have been a shoe-in according to his fangirls… Really shows just how “great” he is.

Who else, Suzy? Suzy is 8 years younger than PMY and has shown how a weak actress can improve to the point where they can get Baeksang nominations and win big awards. She took on a challenge and did amazingly whereas where do you see PMY taking on challenges like Anna? Anything even half way as challenging as that? Right, you cant, because she doesn’t.

      • Do I have to spell it out? I meant Go Eun and Taeri not being nominated for Little Women and Revenant, which was deemed controversial. And are you dense or just forgetful? You mentioned JCW first.

Thinking it’s just fangirls is petty. Casual viewers watched it too; it’s not some basic romcom. No point arguing with someone so pressed. Bugger off if you dont rate their acting then, what use is it obsessing over their awards? Couldn’t be me.

      • @Kailey b Rather than spell it out, basic English would suffice. Read your own words again instead of expecting others to read your mind. And so back to the conversation, your point is Baeksang not nominating KTR and KGE for those dramas “says it all”? Says what exactly? That their nomination picks “seems controversial”? Seems like a clutching straws accusation then considering there wasn’t a single nominee who should have been left out as far as kfans were concerned. But I guess Baeksang leaving out A-listers for other great performances are to poo poo over. Funnily enough, that’s the very fact that makes Baeksangs so prestigious. Doubt KTR or KGE are so pressed for it considering one won this year and the other likely to win next. Unlike your unnier and oppar, they don’t have just 1 drama to pin alllllll their futile hopes on like… JCW lmao.

And so on that topic, you think casual fans were clamouring for JCW? 😂 yeah, right, in your dreams lmfao. Go check out Baeksang’s best actor nominees TQ posts for this year. There are several and out of the 3000+ comments combined, you’ll be hard pressed to find even 20 mentioning JCW. Again, the Blue Dragons proves my point.

I don’t need to rate someone’s acting as high to have an opinion on it. That’s not how this works sadly no matter how much you fangirlies want it to. So nah, I’ll stick around. If you can’t find the facts to fight with, you may take your own suggestion and bugger right off 😉

      • Agree @Millie, she kept the same style since What’s wrong….and never changed since then . Even in Marry my husband , the style was too much for the role . Some are complaining that she is typecasted but she stills getting roles that’s what matters for her . Only a few actresses get challenging roles from time to time . The roles in dramaland are very repetitive ( chaebols, hardworking girls, attorneys, detectives, …) The real challenge is to try to play the roles in a new light which is hard , working with a good script writer, director, cast,…Song Hye Kyo has to wait a long time for “The glory”

      • Nah, you’re just slow. Are you a secret fangirl? He was on most lists. How are you making up these imaginary scenarios? You seem more fixated on him than his actual fans and ogling like a voyeur lol again couldn’t be me but you do you lol.

      • @Millie
I found myself nodding to all your points and even all the actors and actresses you brought up. First off, I totally agree on who you consider an A-list. I would argue KGE-KTR are S-list while HHJ-PBY are A-list. But either way, from a neutral perspective, no one sane would argue otherwise.

Secondly, regarding JCW. Yep, it is only his fans who think he had any chance at this year’s Baeksangs. And I did not even think of Blue Dragon. That was a pretty good chance for him to at least bag a nomination if he were deserving of it. Has JCW ever won anything significant. Forget the Baeksangs – that is too tall of an ask, but even the network awards have not given him a single Top Excellence award if I remember correctly. Most actors in the same age group as him won a Daesang by now…

Finally regarding PMY herself, you are hit the bullseye. She is a decent actress. Not Baeksang worthy, but nothing to be ashamed of. On the other hand, her choices have always remained consistently predictable which makes her look like a weak actress with no variety. She also plays all these characters similarly and in that vein, all her female leads feel like they can be swapped out for each other and most wouldn’t see the difference. She could probably bring in certain quirks, something new, but she continues to practically repeat herself in all these different settings. I was a fan in her Healer and City Hunter days, but seriously, there’s only so many different version of the same thing I see before I roll my eyes and move on.

      • @Kailey b Nah, you’re just slow that you can’t understand your own inability to convey yourself. Imaginary scenarios are in your head, open fangirlie. To unimagined them, try getting out of your fandom bubble lmao. And yea, you couldnt be me. For that you’d need logic. I’ll keep doing me and enjoy watching you bow pathetically out of the convo 😉

@cahill you’re completely right. Similar characters can feel different with a bit more thought and effort. I think the PD also plays a big role in that more so than the writer. SHK I felt was unwilling to take on more challenging roles until recently but I’m happy to see her take the jump.

@Dee I would place HHJ in the S tier if we consider her movie career. PBY and IU are probably A. KJW and Suzy are close to it, and it’ll depend on how well their next projects go. On the actors side, I think it’s quite clear cut. As for JCW, he is popular like PMY but he’s very far from being a critically acclaimed actor. That’s why his stans were so triggered when he didn’t get a nomination this year at the Baeksangs. Even they know very well how rare it is that he’s even in slight contention. In the end it was all their fantasy anyway 😂

      • @millie

Isn’t Suzy S list? She’s super and has been for a long time. But out of the project’s it seems like the other actresses had more than 1 hit and suzy just had Anna , before that she was not really seen as a good actress. I’m probably gonna be wrong on this but I also don’t recall any of her projects having double digits or being critically acclaimed (except Anna) but all the actresses you named have. She’s opposite to KJW who has more hits both critical and commercial but doesn’t have that star power (like han sohee for instance) hence shes not on the radar as much. PMY is she not atleast their level, she’s not consistent with hits but very recognisable idk which metric are you looking at it by.

      • @cahill, your point on Song Hye Kyo waited a long time for a good script like The Glory is so spot on. Which actress dont want a good script?? But not everyone gets one. It is better to get what Park Min Young is best for her the wait for the Prefect script. Be it luck or Fate…what is good may turn out not great but one that is average may be a Hit…that able to still work on typecast roles and not be jobless which is normal for actress her age. that is what really matters for her currently.

      • @Silja, I know you didn’t direct your question to me, but I think Suzy is not A or S list. Mostly due to her lack of actual critical acclaim/awards or mega hits. Baeksang nomination and Blue Dragon award was a big win but I think she needs to back it up to cement her place and prove its not a one-off. However, when it comes to ratings, she’s had a lot of decent ratings hit. Dream High, Gu Family Book, Vagabond, etc have all hit double digits. Depending on how well she does in the new KES drama, it can help cement her place. Plus she is also considering a female centric drama.

And Millie, agreed on HHJ. She’s amazing and someone who is never shy to take on a multitude of roles including being a mother. More than that, she is someone who always brings the numbers and the awards so definitely S-tier when putting her chungmuro resume into play.

      • @Silja I dont think Suzy is even A list right now. I agree with @Dee. Her next drama can bring her there. A list is not about popularity and has never been. Popularity as a metric is basically how much of a Hallyu star one is. A-list is determined by how many critically acclaimed dramas an actress starred in, how many ratings hits they led, how many Baeksang awards they got nominated for and the type of scripts they get offered (not quantity but quality). So many actresses are A-listers but not necessarily Hallyu stars or vice versa.

PMY is definitely a Hallyu star. I dont think anyone can ever question that and come out looking like they haven’t lost their minds.

      • @Dee and @Millie I agree with all your points except that an S-tier/A-list actor/actress must have critical acclaim. If it was about talent and critical acclaim, someone like Brad Pitt wouldn’t be an undeniably S-tier actor and Joaquin Phoenix and Cillian Murphy would’ve been considered S-tier actors a long time ago. To use Korean examples, no one can deny that Song Hye Kyo is an S-tier actress, but we all know she’s not the greatest actress, even tho she definitely improved in The Glory. I think being an A-lister is more about name recognition, as in, can this person get people to the cinema to watch his/her movie just by his/her name alone? Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Cruise are called the last movie stars because they can get people to watch their movies just by their names alone, regardless of the plot. Among directors, Christopher Nolan is an S-tier director because his name 99.9% guarantees that people will watch a movie. So I’d say Suzy is A-list as she has that name recognition and is a household name in Korea. She could go up the S-tier status though if she delivers a huge hit and gains more critical acclaim for her acting

      • Posting my comment again since I responded to the wrong chain.

Loving the discussion guys and respectful manner everyone is going about it (thanks @Silja for initiating). I agree with @Millie, @Dee on what makes an A-lister, but I also agree with @Halton that name recognition needs to also be weighed in. And I do not mean that in the sense of popularity overseas. More so the name value, appearance fees and the type of scripts they get. In that sense, I think Suzy could be considered A-list because she has been getting a lot of quality scripts. Same goes for IU who was the first choice in Queen of Tears.

I think there are some actors / actresses who are obvious S-listers no one other than absolute idiots would argue against. For example Kim Tae-ri, Kim Go-eun, Son Ye-jin, Jeon Ji-hyun, Kim Soo-hyun, Song Joong-ki, Hyun Bin, etc. Then there are the A-listers which is a tad lower than S listers. Some are obviously stamped in on the list like Lee Jong-suk, Park Bo-gum, Park Eun-bin, Park Bo-young and then there are those who are either already there or on the verge like Suzy, IU. Thats where the fun debate comes in play.

      • @gg, @halton Also really enjoying this debate. would be nice if koala wrote a post on the topic of S/A/B list but instead of an interesting discussion, we will likely to get in war territory 😂 Re: Suzy and IU, I dont think I fully agree with you both but I get where the argument is coming from.

The way I see A-listers is purely from a success perspective. In the case of SHK, she has been on some of the biggest ratings hits the past 3 decades. In the 2000’s it was Autumn in my heart and Full house. In the 2010’s it was DOTS and in the 2020’s its The Glory. She also has several Baeksang nominations, multiple Daesangs, and she gets the best scripts. So she is an A-lister as opinions on someone’s acting is just opinion. Only hard data and facts are something that can be proven which she’s done continiously throughout her long career. In contrast, Kim Tae-hee is not an A-lister to me. She has several ratings hits, is a household name in Korea, but has no Baeksang nominations to cement which I feel is crucial to being considered A-list. It’s a grey area with some for sure. If one considers KTH as A-list, then Suzy is as well imo as they have very similar impacts and trajectories. I do believe Suzy will surpass KTH as she seems willing to take on challenges a lot more.

    • @Kailey b, after that long spiel downplaying baeksang noms, you end it with PMY getting one 15 years ago proving she’s a critically acclaimed actress 🤣. And it doesn’t matter how many (ie:, fans) think so n so deserves one for their “masterful” performance, there are only 5 spots in each category and it’s the judges’ decision to decides who is deserving.

      • I just mentioned it out incase someone claims shes never had it. But I still don’t think it means baeksang should be the only barometer of good acting, JCW and lee dongwook for example haven’t had baeksang noms but most agree they’re fantastic actors.

      • @kaileyb

Going this hard for Park Min Young is laughable. Your other faves are JCW, KJW, and PSJ? You have zero taste 🤣🤣

      • @Doe Now you’re not even pretending to not be a KJW anti, huh? How is being a fan of KJW, a literal Baeksang Best Actress nominee who’s recognized by drama fans as a great actress, mean that the other person has “zero taste”? Lol you stan B-lister Seo Ye Ji who isn’t even a critically acclaimed actress and was never nominated for any prestigious best actress awards like Baeksang and who’s been exposed for the liar she is. YOU are the one with trash taste 😂 Also, your obsession with dragging KJW is laughable. No one even mentioned her here yet you’re so obsessed that you found a way to mention her 😂

Oh well, KJW is THRIVING while your SYJ will forever be known as a toxic manipulate bish and a certified B-lister, so cry about it 😂

      • @doe and pray tell what’s wrong with liking kjw and psj? they’re great actors who are recognized by the industry and kdrama fans as such. kjw has a baeksang best actress nom to prove it. how about your seo yeji? only people with sh*t taste who like aggressive and abus*r/sexually haras*er female leads like ko mun yeong are creaming their pants over seo yeji’s acting in iontbo lmao. your taste is ew 🤢🤮

      • At least my favourites are not toxic weirdos btw your fav really needs a job soon so you can give this obsession a rest.

      • @ eeww your name is fitting to your comment, what a gross thing to say, I’m not even a SYJ stan (who got your info also has baeksang nom). Also I’m a fan of KSH.

      • @ewwwww and @doeisaclown @kaileyb

Everything was going really well until

BINGO you had to mention SYJ in a unrelated post so what is your problem?
You’re actually really insecure and it’s obvious as hell. Far out, is your obsession that is so entrenched in you perhaps maybe that is the reason why you just can’t shake it? Pity party for you all. SYJ ‘Eve’ that was made 2 years ago is currently on Netflix do yourselves a favour and go check it out as it could help with calming your nerves.

      • Loving the discussion guys and respectful manner everyone is going about it (thanks @Silja for initiating). • @Kailey b, getting overlooked on one, maybe two great performance(s) is a snub, it’s no longer a snub when your entire body of work over a decade+ is not recognized. Not just Baeksang, some examples you mentioned like LDW and JCW have never been nominated for any top acting award in any award body. So the consensus is quite consistent.

      • Exactly right.

It’s not like she has acted sparingly either. PMY does at least 1 drama every year so if her last and only noms happened in the 2010 era, that’s not a snub or an overlooked situation. That’s a not-worthy-of-being-nominated situation. JCW, LDW are also in the same bucket. I quite love LDW but I won’t go around claiming he’s a great actor lol. He’s gotten so much better from his My Girl days but he ain’t baeksang worthy. Hes just a really popular Hallyu star so he’s always super buzzy.

      • @Macy, 🤣 DITTO. But fangirls have their own illogical logic to justify why their oppar is SO GREAT and Baeksang is wrong. Simply. Wrong. Logic and criteria and experts be damned.

    • Well why are you here commenting f you do tike her duhhh you are not force to like her and what?? Trying too much?? Duhhh

  7. I have a soft spot for her as i know her since her debut but i couldn’t watch some of her dramas lately . I respect her hard working ethic.

  8. See. Kinda expected that in every pmy article, there’s always that people who give unnecessary hate lmao

    Be kind everyone.
Its fine to give opinions but some are just too much.

  9. PMY fans are so defensive over literal facts LOL. PMY has not done anything challenging or different from her norm in forever. Healer, When the Weather is Warm, Secretary Kim, Sungkyungkwan Scandal, Love in contract, Love forecast, Her Private Life, even City Hunter all had the same type of characters. She has not acted in a female centric drama other than Queen for Seven Days and Marry My Husband and even calling those as female centric is a stretch, let’s be honest.

So this new drama offer if she agrees to do is something to celebrate for her fans. I have no knowledge of the original piece but it does sounds like it will be focused on her character without it having romance.

    • Wow, the fact you dont like her “doing the same role”, and you watched ALL her dramas.props to you!
You forgot to add high kick, glory jane, a new leaf, remember, running gu, busted. those are good shows too, if you have time.

      • Wow, the fact that you think I watched ALL her dramas, then proceeded to list out all of the ones I haven’t watched lmao. I’ve seen all of the ones I mentioned, some till the end, some not. But did I really need to watch all the episodes to know she played the same character or was 3-4 episodes enough? Correct answer is the latter if you’re wondering.

And no I haven’t forgotten to add those dramas. It’s just that I don’t make it a point to watch ALL PMY dramas. Funnily enough the ones those I bothered trying was enough to prove the point I was making.

    • Have to say I agree even without watching all her dramas nor a fan. It’s the genre. She may be hardworking but it gets repetive.

    • Don’t waste your time commenting lol not done anything challenging.? HAVE YOU WATCH JA MYUNG GO?? I’m sure not don’t talk as if you know EVERYTHING ABOUT HER !!! She even plan a villain in jamyungo and a gumiho and you telling us she never done anything challenging??? Obviously you are just here to comment nonsense about PMY lol thank you for your time XD

  10. What’s with this recent claim I’ve been seeing against Lee Je-hoon having zero romantic chemistry? He was on fire with Shin Min-Ah in Tomorrow With You and anyone who claims otherwise clearly needs their eyes checked lol

    • I know! Maybe it’s the same user that’s saying this. I even thought he had chemistry with Kim hyesoo in signal 🙈

  11. I don’t know where all these comments about PMY constantly playing romcom roles are coming from. In her early days she did a wide variety of roles, action (City Hunter, Healer), thriller (Remember Son of War), melo (When the Weather is Fine), Saguek (Sungkyunkwan Scandal, Queen for Seven Days) Legal (A New Leaf) . Yes, it is true that her roles nowadays seem repetitive. But I’m glad for Marry My Husband, though it had elements of romance, at its core was revenge fantasy drama.

This new role seems challenging, looks like she’s done with romcom for a while. But regardless of whatever type of role she plays, PMY is a consummate professional, regardless of whatever genre she plays, she always, ALWAYS makes her male costars look GOOD. So to folks who say she is not versatile, it simply means you may be one of the folks who only watched her more recent work. If you followed her career closely from the early days you’ll find that she is quite versatile in her choice of genres.

    • I find that kdrama fans seem to be selective on who they’re going to criticize. So many actresses mostly take romance projects, but only PMY get the harshest criticisms for some reason. Kim So Hyun is another actress who’s always criticized for “playing the same roles” or “always playing high schoolers”, while these people conveniently forget about Radio Romance, Tale of Nokdu, Love Alarm season 2, River Where the Moon Rises, and My Lovely Liar. Even in Love Alarm and Serendipity’s Embrace, the high school parts were only flashbacks, and her characters are adults with jobs lol. Lots of young actresses under 30 are mostly in romance dramas and playing high schoolers too, but it’s only KSH being criticized like that when she already acted in many non-romance dramas (Suspicious Housekeeper, We All Cry Differently, Reset, Nightmare High, The Last Princess, Page Turner, etc., and the upcoming Good Boy doesn’t seem romance-focused either). Again, kdrama fans are really biased and will just criticize who they want to while turning a blind eye on others for doing what they criticize certain actresses for lol

  12. @Doe @Doe I agree with half of what you said and half not. Also, the way you call actresses without using their last name confuses me.

PMY is not “so much better” than Nam Ji Hyun. Little Women was quite critically acclaimed and help cemented JSK as a top writer who got KDW back to drama land. NJH is also currently starring in a drama that got to 13% ratings in just 4 episodes. She’s a whole lot better in not just her acting and roles, but in the quality of the projects she picks as well. IU has a lot to prove?? lol umm, no. She already proved herself years ago with My Mister. She has 3 Baeksang nominations in the past 6 years.

Who is “Jiwon”? Are you talking of KJW? Because my Liberation Notes is neither romance focused nor male lead focused. She probably needs to prove she can carry a female centric drama like KYR, PBY and KGE can, but she’s taken on more than romance, and is a far far better actress than PMY, let’s be honest here. If it’s another Jiwon that I’m missing, then I’m all ears. HHJ you’re completely right and PMY as well. If this drama makes her some tomboy, then good that she is finally diversifying a bit.

    • Nam Jihyun never makes buzz for her acting, even ignoring awards you barely hear noise about her being a great actor, this will sound rude but her grating voice limits her. Little women was a goeun show, it was all about her, Nam Jihyun was a supporting character. Industry is what matters and they seem to like IU, but I still feel like shes always playing the aloof cold character and with emotional scenes she still lacking, she doesn’t have much range.
As for Kim jiwon all her shows contain romance, mln became the Kim jiwon and sukku show with their romance despite lee el and minki putting in better performances. All her shows have romance even arthdal chronicles, interesting she’s never called out on it but as a another commentator said people be selective.

      • NJH never makes buzz for her acting? Ummm says who? She is literally the topic in TQ for weeks now on how well she’s moderated her voice (ironically something you mentioned yourself as annoying). If you mean internationally, then yeah, she ain’t a hallyu star and I never claimed she was. PMY is well ahead of her on that end no doubt.

As for IU, you can have your own opinion. That’s completely fair. However, she has proven herself to the industry and the casuals. And plainly putting, that’s what counts.

As for KJW, MLN is not a romance. No matter how you spin it. SSK stole the show from all 3 siblings because of how interesting his character was and how good an actor he is, but if you watched MLN, you’ll know that to the core, it is not a romance and that is what KJW picked.

      • What about her other roles has she given a award worthy performance? She also hasn’t been making buzz on good data for sure, basically nothings shes done has been memorable too atleast with PMY MMH made alot of noise and PMY was topping good data charts .
My point still stands with Kim jiwon, MLN has a romance element, has she even done a role which doesn’t have romance, and yes sukku is a good actor but he’s also hot, the way people were thirsting over him around then lol. Back to jiwon if she keeps doing shows that contain romance then she deserves the same critique as PMY.

      • @Doe Your initial claim was that PMY is “so much better” than NJH which is completely incorrect to me as I was not talking about popularity or buzz. If the question at hand is popularity, then yes, PMY is “so much better”. I am happy to concede that. If the question is who picks more challenging roles, or have more successful projects that do not rely on romance but rather on strong writing and good acting, then it is very clear who is “so much better”.

On KJW, like I already said in my first response to you, KJW may need to prove she can carry a female centric drama by herself. She’s done infinitely fewer dramas than PMY and did them with longer gaps. But yes, I hope she does not do another rom com next as that would not be good for her. That JDY-KGE drama could have been a great choice if she didn’t pass on. We’ll see.

      • @Doe
When are you going to leave Kim Ji Won alone already? Whatever topic it is, you always, always bringing up her name. Seems she bothers you too much.
Arthdal chronicles not romance, lol, do you think, if plot has some romantic line it’s romance drama? If you think like this, when Ms. Sunshine and The Glory a romance dramas too? Judging by your logic.
And this isn’t only romance people talking about, but versatility of roles.
Descendants of the sun, Fight for my way, Arthdal chronicles, The Love stuck in the city, My liberation notes, Queen of tears – all Kim Ji Won’s characters in these dramas completely different from each other.
So even if most of her dramas had love line, she proved herself as versatile actress, who can success in any role she get.
I didn’t watch PMY dramas, so can’t say anything about her, but what about KJW, she got recognition for her acting a long ago.

  13. Wow! She works nonstop. It’s also a talent to consistently land decent roles when drama industry is in a somewhat slump.

I liked her the best in Seven Day Queen. Also really liked City Hunter back in the day!

    • Male actor counterpart to her is JCW imo. He also works nonstop, is a decent actor though the quality of works is not always consistent.

  14. What’s with all the fighting here? Seems like haters have come out of the woodwork. As a fan, I couldn’t care less how others see her status in the industry. I love romance and watching her be super charming in fluff is my escapism, a little bubble I like to be in, it’s not that deep. But eventhough , I love my fluff I do want to see her in a dark role, maybe play a villianess.

  15. I’m always amused by the way K drama fans so zealous arguing about whose acting beats the other, who’s A-list and who else aren’t, who were nominated or won any award and who else never. Drama is just one small part of showbiz and even a smaller part of performing art, which is subjective at best. I just can’t see any way to shake off this subjectivity in one’s judgment or review or praises or criticism of anything in art, me included. So, why striving so desperately to argue about who is better than the other? It’s call personal preference! LOL.

I was very fond of quite a few PMY’s early dramas since Sungkyunkwan Scandal. But tbh I don’t like her recent ones. I checked some of them and only ended up watching Marry My Husband that I attribute the success to great acting of the 2nd pair antagonists. They were so amusingly evil and made me laugh. LOL. I hope PMY makes a foray into something new and take up challenges. She is capable of being badass on screen.

I also have a soft spot for her Healer costar, JCW. I don’t think he’s as bland as some ppl always dissed him to be. JCW is quite appealing in action genre. It’s dumbfounding many Kdrama fans appear very old school and dismiss thrillers/crime/action genres while swooning over romance and romcom to the galaxy. Fans age 18-45 or male are laughing. LMAO.

  16. Koala, did you ban my comment cos I said it’s meaningless to always fight over who’s A-list and who else isn’t etc.? LOL. Why was this comment blocked but other long-a$$ comments of mine showed up? The moderating algorithm of your site is bizarre.

  17. I wondered why here are so many comments, but of course it’s lame fanwars and comparisons again.
I can’t understand why people here complaining about PMY playing the same roles in romance dramas.
Didn’t you read an article? This is clearly about completely different new PMY’s drama with versatile role, and yet you complaining. Why this article gave a reason to complain?
And of course lame talks about Baeksang nominees, again.
Why do you care so much about Baeksang? Can’t you just watching dramas in peace and judging their acting yourself, you need to check Baeksang nominations of all actors for last 10 years? I don’t even know who of them was nominated and who wasn’t, why do you even need to check this? Like you can’t say themself if their acting good or bad without knowing about this?
Jonny Depp, Edward Norton, Michelle Pfeiffer doesn’t have any Oscar awards for their entire careers, even though they’re already in their 60s and filmed in a lot of good movies. Does it make their acting bad? Of course not.
Honey Lee got her first actress nomination ever when she was 34 yo. Does it make her bad actress?
If some of them doesn’t have nominations or awards doesn’t mean they’re bad actors.
Some actors didn’t even have a chance to get main leads roles. If you’re gonna talk about everyone by this “S-list, A-list, B-list”, you won’t give them a chance to be considered as good actors.
You talking like korean industry are so easy to nominate anyone if their acting are good. And whatever you bringing Park Eun Bin name, like you don’t know that no one called her A-list actress before Attorney Woo. Not because she wasn’t good enough, but because many lame people looking only on awards and on popularity of dramas, and who was main centric lead. Otherwise they can’t decide if actress is good or not.
And last, why are so many people looking down on romance dramas? Like you think that only female centric dramas without romantic plot can show capability of actress. Or thriller, detective dramas. I don’t know why so many people thinking that in romcoms easier to act. You just have prejudice against this genre.

      • @HL, it’s interesting and amusing why I agree with both @Olesya1 and @Ro although they have opposing opinions. LOL. I think you should be those who can get my point. Hahaha.

I think both Olesya1 and Ro make sense and made good points. They just look at the same topic from different perspectives. Not that one is right and the other is wrong. LOL

      • Somebody:
I think there are two somebody in this comments section LOL. I legit just wrote a response to the other one.
Anyways I was thinking of the same thing. I agreed with Olesya1 for the most part while reading their comment but then I got to Ro’s response, and realized how right they are instead LOL.

    • u dont care about beksang, congrats. others care about it and doesnt owe you an explanation. u dont care about oscars, congrats. others do care about it and doesnt owe you an explanation for that either. i dont know why you care about what others care about and discuss.
u wrote this whole essay on what U feel and are asking everyone to stop expressing what they feel? HA. The highhandedness.

      • @Ro
Lol, I didn’t ask your explanation or any other. I know for sure why you and some others care about baeksang.
I didn’t ask you to stop expressing that you feel. Keep going, and I’ll keep write that I feel about these lame comparisons.

      • And writing “why you care about what others care about and discuss” – are you for real? Like you didn’t notice all this fanwars and little fights above with 90+ comments, because people care about that others think and discuss.
You act like my comment here is too much, while all others just peacefully talked and respected eo opinion 😄

      • @Ro

On point, and you did it with way less words too. Oddly, the same person who questioned all the discussions jumped right into the fanwar they apparently hate when it targeted someone they liked.

      • @Gg, how’s that odd? Did you get any proper education on logic? LOL. Just get off your high horse. Everyone is entitled to defend his/her own fave. @Olesya1’s comment is neutral. What’s wrong with her opinion? Can’t your insecure ego tolerate slight deviation from your own opinion? LOL. You are always smug with mockery. But get a flashlight to light up your dark mind a bit so that you won’t be always so negative and worked up about a very neutral and normal comment! SMH! Go live in North Korea that suits you instead. LOL.

      • @Gg – somebody taking out her frustrations on you for how you roasted her like a marshmallow in another comment. See now this is the sort of peak clown behaviour I visit this blog for 🤣🤣🤣

      • @Gd
Are you talking about me? I didn’t jump on any fanwar, and I didn’t write negatively about any actor/actress either. If you think I did it you can check my comments here or under any other post.

      • @angrybirds, here we go the little animal out of Cuckoo nest! LOL. I don’t have anger issues like you as manifested by your username. LMAO. It’s just amusing to me how rampant this mob culture has infected Kdrama circle too. Rabid behavior is so encouraged and ppl like you always can’t control your impulse to join the mob harassing other commenters. Wet blanket!

    • @👸, sorry I couldn’t find the same graphic stamp as your username. LOL. I’m the same Somebody. I have no idea why there I was assigned a different stamp. I prefer the black one though cos it reflects my fan personality better. LMAO.

      • 🤣🤣 @Somebody…I was thinking to myself…the comment your wrote was in your style but the stamp was not black. So I draw back on replying. I am glad you clarified. I am aware you have crazy members who used the ‘Somebody’ name to debate with you previously.

You are spot on, I clapped on @Olesya1’s comment because I can see from that perspective and agree with a number of good points. Also, I too see @Ro’s points as you did. No right nor wrong, just different perspectives.

      • Did you read a slew of my replies to a swarm of keyboard flies buzzing around @Olesya1? I just can’t take these nugus in real life seriously enough to overlook how annoying they are. LOL. Similar to how some wild keyboard animals had pile-on over Sunny in other threads, this new pack mobbed Olesya1 exhibiting exactly the same pattern of preying behavior. Mob mentality is so obvious to not be unseen. So wild and pathetic! I think I’m back to Kpop realm again. LMAO.

I don’t mind getting back on them with teeth though. LOL. Their tongues are from hell. They like to diss and mock with sarcasm. I’ll be sure they get the same taste. LOL.

  18. ALWAYS THE KIM JIWON FANS ARE SO OBSESSED WITH PMY they’re here talking nonsense it’s ALWAYS them lololol stop wasting your time here FOCUS ON HER DONT SPREAD NEGATIVITY HERE

    • People talked about Kim Tae Ri, Han Hye Joo, Kim Go Eun, NJH, PEB, Suzy, IU and many others, and yet Kim Ji Won fans are obsessed with PMY.

      • I don’t even know why KJW is being brought up here and it’s because of this one anti who keeps bringing up and criticizing her until she sounds deranged

  19. It’s not even the issue of taking on the same kind of roles in her recent dramas. It’s the way pmy is styled the same and does the same acting in all of them. One commenter was right when she said, you could swap out her characters in her recent dramas and no one could tell the difference.

Also I hope she stops with the PS and gain some weight. She was scarily thin in MMH and her extremely pointed chin is looking so weird

  20. It’s amusing to see so many comments about some actors. There was BWS, and now is PMY. LOL. This is sorta one proof that they are indeed popular regardless of whether ppl dislike them or deny their popularity.

I’ll be sure to drop a similar comment like this to attest their popularity. Otherwise, why did ppl bother to say anything? It’s fun. LOL.

    • Where do you see a single argument stating PMY is not popular? Because out of the almost 100 comments, I see a total of ZERO that claimed she is not popular. In fact, most of the comments who dislike her have literally claimed she is a huge Hallyu star. So again, who is denying that PMY’s popular?

      • I’m not responding to any comment though. I’m just indicating one same phenomenon these celebs share – they are all popular, be they are to ppl’s liking or not. Number of comments alone is one indicator of their popularity.

      • You specifically said “regardless of whether people dislike them or deny their popularity”. No one has ever denied PMY’s popularity even once so there is absolutely nothing to “proof” for her.

      • That Somebody person is ALWAYS fighting with air, ISTG. She was fighting imaginary rabid KSH stans who apparently can’t take constructive criticisms (after baiting them by mentioning KSH in unrelated articles, of course lol), and now apparently, people are denying PMY’s popularity lmao. I envy her life, she seems to have no life problems so she loves inventing some 😂

      • @Halton

LOL, yuppp. I went back to check on the discussion from yesterday and gosh I normally dont even care about KSH, but I found the need to respond. Its like this person cannot go a day without looking for an argument.

      • @Gg, Halton. Do you have trouble reading English properly? Did I trigger you because of BWS’ popularity? Or why did the mention of PMY’s popularity bother you so much to lash on me with crap? LOL. Yes, I don’t have real life problems and have a huge grass yard and garden for me to walk around in real life, unlike you keyboard nugus. Go find your real grass to touch and fresh air to clear your brain fog and stop excessive mental gym. LOL

    • Some ppl fervently deny BWS’ popularity though. Didn’t I mention him as an example too? I had him in mind in particular when saying that. LOL.

Why are so petty about this? I already said that they both are popular and that’s my point.

      • Ah, got it. So what you really aimed to do was bring in BWS to an unrelated topic. You were just using PMY’s name to draw in a non existent connection as no one ever denied her popularity while others did his.

I love being petty to bring out other people’s real intentions. LOL.

      • Sigh. Stop performing your mental gym in my face. LOL. Anyhow, both BWS and PMY are popular. I won’t respond to petty ppl like you again. You getting it or not has nothing do with my life. Go mow your lawn. LOL.

Have good extra exercise in your mental gym! LOL

    • @Nobody, I LOL all the time cos you keyboard nobody is really laughable and pretty amusing. I’ll get my real life and already did. But you get some med! LOL.

      • @Somebody, I thought today you might get a break and rest, slow news day…I guess not.😂😂

      • @HL, I’m actually taking two days off and have a long weekend. I have plenty of time to goof around with these mental gymnasts and keyboard mob.

I think these trolls were either triggered by BWS’ popularity or PMY’s popularity or my opinion about KSH’s lack of versatility. Their fragile ego just doesn’t want to admit the reasons for them to go berserk. These ppl have the same syndromes as delirious Kpop fans. LMAO.

      • I had fun goofing around with these wild birds out of cuckoo nest. LOL.

I just wrapped up a big request from my client and have been feeling pretty relaxed. These cuckoo birds gave me quite a bit of entertainment right on time. LOL.

      • @Somebody, Ejoy your long weekend!! My crazy hubby started this car camping on his electric car hobby…I said not. it is like sleeping i coffin…He can go on his own. I have whole bed to myself and 2 cats..my ow holiday at home.

      • @HL, it’s so cute hearing your little clash with your hubby. LOL. That’s how a real marriage works.

  21. Lmfao I was wondering why a simple casting announcement have hundreds of comments and now seeing a certain user I was like “well that tracks” lol.

Anyways let’s hope her next leading man be better than Na Inwoo. Not even asking for much. Please drama god.

    • Actor Joo Jong Hyuk got offer to be a male lead. He didn’t play main lead roles before, but I read many comments that he’s a good actor.

  22. I had to come in and see what was happening in the comments and now my eyes have crossed lol what even guys

Anyway I like her fine. If I happen to like her show, I will watch it and her acting is good.

  23. Funny enough, I couldn’t stand her character in High Kick, but totally became a fan after Sungkyunkwan Scandal. I haven’t seen the Japanese drama, but from the premise it looks like this will be a lot of fun with PMY as the lead.

  24. I love PMY, she’s always so refreshing, she might not be the greatest actress but yes, she’s def very popular as all of you have attested and there’s no need to trash on romance, she always gives her roles justice even though it might be cliche or same take but you know going into it what you’re gonna get and you’ll enjoy it all the same and there’s nothing wrong with that! Sometimes that’s all we need, to enjoy a drama regardless of what it is! I don’t need to think deep or to assess every single thing, just plain enjoyment and that’s what she brings to the table.

  25. @Doe seriously why are you always trying to shit on KJW no matter what the topic is? You’re coming off really jealous and obsessed! It’s like you’re trying to always negate her and it honestly does the total opposite of what you’re trying to achieve it’s plain laughable!

    • @Liz KJW is not the only actress being brought up. You sound more obsessed over 1 comment when all the other actresses are also being discussed and none of their fans are losing their shit like KJW fans seems to be. It’s like you guys want to be Mummabear of KJW or something. What exactly was said that was sooooooo bad? And if you’re curious, SYJ and KJW are equally unappealing to me.

      • @Neither a SYJ not a KJW fan
Disclaimer in case anyone is unclear I’m just a stan of SYJ.

      • @Mummabear, I can confidently say no one is unclear of who you stan. You were referenced because of your infamous obsession with one particular actress. Do you spend every waking minute scouring the internet to see if anyone talks about her?

      • No I just camp out here reading your smoked as complaints about YJ cos you can’t seem to register you’re the one with the obsession always wanting to comment in articles about YJ even when it has nothing to do with the topic. At least I don’t change my user name and am consistent. Is your keyboard stuck you need to use an emoji. I only read this blog cos this is where the anti’s flock and fawn. Do better with your reply.

      • @Mamabear don’t know who you were referring to but this is my first interaction with you. I just couldn’t resist responding since you think it wasn’t clear who you stan. I had to laugh when I read that. I guess you only camp out here because no one cares to talk about her anywhere else. You should be grateful to your co-fan Doe.

      • @lol emoji Good try you’re a regular commentator without a doubt and they do talk about YJ on X so just read further down. KP blog is purgatory for all the antis who live in the real world with no friends kinda like yourself. Bye Nora no mates.

      • @Mamabear believe what you want if it makes you feel better. I’ll admit this much, fans like you make me dislike her even more so you’re doing a great job promoting that.

      • @lol emoji
What a cop out, so I reply back to you and it hurts your feelings so you throw back the line ‘Oh I dislike her evenmore’ geez you’re so precious because you basically got rebuked. Lesson is wanna throw shade be prepared to receive it back with the same energy. Be gone.

      • That is why I mentioned @doe specifically coz she always drags KJW no matter what topic, you clearly don’t get my point and just responding without even trying to understand where I’m coming from, read up you’ll know smh

    • Doe and Somebody should be besties, Somebody is obsessed with bringing up Kim Soo Hyun in unrelated topics (while claiming she’s a fan… Uh, sure, Jan 😏), while Doe is obsessed with dragging Kim Ji Won in unrelated topics. Notice how these two made the comment section longer than it should be? Millie and Kailey B were arguing too, but at least they’re on topic, while Doe and Somebody always just go out of their way to mention KSH and KJW, they’re absolutely OBSESSED lmao.

Cue Somebody claiming that she’s just a “level-headed fan unlike those rabid stans” lol. Like, yes, you can give constructive criticisms towards your favorite and that doesn’t make you less of a fan. But that’s not what she’s doing tho, she’s literally always dragging KSH no matter the topic just to downplay his talent and whatnot. In the previous Park Seo Joon post for example, she literally shaded KSH by saying something like, “Park Seo Joon has good comedic timing, unlike a certain actor from a recent smash hit…”

Like… At this point, it’s not “constructive criticism coming from a rational fan” anymore, it’s just obsessed hater behavior of bringing up the actor you claim to love to shade or bash him in every opportunity. I’m a fan of certain actors and yes, I do criticize them sometimes (i.e. I LOVE You Seung Ho to pieces but I’ll always admit that he doesn’t do romantic roles well). HOWEVER, I can never imagine bringing up my faves on unrelated topics so that everyone can bash them, it’s just feeding your faves to the wolves and I will never understand how a self-proclaimed “fan” can do that.

And don’t even get me started on Doe. The most OBSESSED KJW hater ever. Her trashy fave is irrelevant now and most likely it’s just the twitter feminists who love aggressive— sorry, I mean, “strong and independent” female leads who will anticipate her next drama. Koreans are done with her bulls*hit, and that’s why this Doe is mad and salty because meanwhile KJW is climbing up the A-list ladder unlike her fave lmao

      • @Yuri
Oh that’s pretty deep about SYJ. You really are triggered about YJ so much so you keep referencing her in the same line as your fave. Gosh your insecurity just reeks. KJW climbing up the A list ladder- that’s a good one since you seem to always reference back to SYJ in comparison thank you for the compliment. Haha saying Koreans are done with her BS – is that why Eve is in the SK Top 10 Netflix dramas. Guess who’s watching in SK? Oh hello??. Get out of here pfftt you’re just writing this to alleviate your fears that she’ll be returning to the screen. I guess you gotta just deal with it better and stop posting under unrelated articles. Obessession 101.

      • @HL, Yes, I am. I don’t randomly say I’m a fan of someone. For example, I’m not a fan of Wang Xing Yue YET while I like him a lot in the Double.

I’m a rabid fan of Xiao Zhan as you already know. LOL. I won’t skip ANY of his dramas, be it good or bad. I also constantly check his Weibo account, watch his stage performances, CFs, as well as vlogs, and closely follow his casting news. I don’t do this to other celeb and that’s why it’s legit to say XZ is my fave. But I don’t hail all his dramas to the galaxy. I criticize his dramas and characters in the dramas as well.

Similarly, but not that passionate as my love for WWX in The Untamed, I’m a huge fan of KSH in Moon Embracing the Sun. I love him so much in that drama and still think that’s the best of all his works so far. As of today, I always re-watched METS whenever there’s nothing new to watch or I simply missed that drama. He’s also impressive in Dream High. I watched most of his works including the Thieves and Secretly, Greatly, although I don’t like his characters in these two movies that much. He’s adorable in the Producers. But I was disappointed when I watched My Love from the Star and in particular, It’s Ok to Not Be OK. I felt that he was overshadowed by two strong FLs. TBH, I can hardly recall his characters in these two dramas now and all I remember is strong presence and charisma from the two FLs. I thought his acting in One Ordinary Day was solid. But dang after watching many more crime/legal dramas, he looked so green in that crime drama compared with other seasoned veteran actors, Shin Ha Kyun, Kim Nam Gil, and even Lee Joon Gi. I just dislike Queen of Tears that had a lot of repetitive old tropes already in the first few eps. I also don’t think KSH good at comedic roles. He gave me an awkward feel when trying to be funny, e.g., in Secretly, Greatly. I did not finish QoT.

LOL, I’m writing a short critique of KSH as a fan.

How’s my honest review of KSH a sign of hater behavior? By these delirious commenters’ Kpop-ish idiocy and lunacy, all the film critics in the West must be haters of each actor and director cos they did not just praise but also made scathing remarks about subpar performances. LOL.

I don’t worship any actor. None of them is perfect without weakness and flaws in their acting. In which dictionary was a “fan” defined to be someone who worships another human being like a perfect god and criticism is a taboo? LOL.

It’s so ridiculous to label me as a KSH antis as some lunatic C fans label me as a XZ hater. These ppl are so deranged, uncivilized, absolutely lacking critical thinking, and appear to be more comfortable with communist’s conformity in thoughts and speech. That’s why I always advised them to live in China or North Korea. LOL.

      • I’ve never come across someone so delirious like @Yuri on such a long ass report. LOL.

    • @Yuri, it’s so amusing to me why Asian fans are so obsessed with the concept of blocking and censoring all the remarks touching “irrelevant” (in their own bigot’s definition LOL) people or topics to the original post. You sounded totally authoritative with what and whom should be mentioned in a free forum. Koala’s Playground is not a policy-making symposium in Washing DC that should have any moderators to control the flow of discussions. Your fetish to police comments and shut up ppl who have their own thoughts not pleasing to you is obnoxious!

I don’t see the same rabid impulse as many Asian fans including you to silence commenters in other Western forums. On a healthy and normal social media where free speech is honored, people are free to talk about their thoughts, be they closely relevant to original post or just digress to something else. What’s wrong with you to even call me and @Doe out to label us with prejudice that’s all spurred from your unskilled but wild mental gymnastics? LMAO. While I don’t agree with @Doe, she’s 100% entitled to her own opinions and shouldn’t be harassed by a halfwit like you !

Call us obsessive while you’re obviously haunted by my neutral critique of various actors including KSH, to even write such a delirious essay! You’re obsessed with me yourself. LOL.

CHECK THE TIME STAMPS OF ALL THE COMMENTS before you bitch and rant about anything!!!! I wasn’t even the first one bringing up KSH in this blog. So funny. There was already a LONG thread initiated by @Beanie and others raving about KSH before I made the first comment about him. Don’t know how to verify what I said? Just use your untrained brain with no genes for logic a little harder. There’s a function on any browser called “FIND” for you to search key word, KSH in this case! LOL. The hard evidence is RIGHT UP THERE in this blog.

Those users mentioned KSH and compared him with other actors just to praise him to the moon that others aren’t A-list while he is. So by your lousy logic (or no logic at all LOL), it’s totally fine for those KSH fangirls to say only good things about this one human being but not ok for me to critique him? What a joke in a democratic society where the IP of this blogging site is located! Go live in China or N. Korea where you can do wild mental gym as much as you wish and ramble like a Kim Jong Un stooge! LMAO.

      • I’m confused, are there two Somebody’s?

Anyhoo, I agree with the other Somebody I can’t seem to reply to her post, I also did not become a fan of KSH in MLFTS and IONTBO, I also think his FLs overshadowed him in those dramas, I love JJH and SYJ was really good in IONTBO (side note: Eve seems like a rehash of her character there I dunno, I wish her next drama would be a different role). I loved him in Queen of Tears though, maybe coz both leads complemented each other. I guess to each his own.

      • @Liz…should be the same @Someebody, I recognise her writing style.
But her icon is not just black now. @Somebody, maybe you can upload your own as I have.

I too enjoy lots of Kim Soo Hyun’s dramas…but I only like his acting skills…I dont actually warm to him individually. I have seen a number of his interviews, I dont warm to him. But I respect him as a actor alot as I like those character he portray. But I am not a Kim Soo Hyun fan.

I hope I make sense to you both… My Eng language skills is not as strong as you both.

      • @Liz, it’s the same me Somebody, be it black or purple or green. But there was once a troll faking my username with ridiculous comments. So, how an image stamp is assigned is not that clear.

  26. Ugh did it really have to be THAT drama :/ I didn’t want to be reminded of that cheating a-hole. I’m glad that his career is over though

  27. Focus on your fave and leave SYJ name out of your insecure tittle tattle cos you just pissed she trending with Eve on Netflix. Now that I’ve given you something to really chew the fat out of go on and knock yourself out with your rants and add to a PMY post.

    • Then tell your fellow SYJ stans to stop dragging KJW in every opportunity! No one even mentioned your fave until that Doe person said that KJW stans have zero taste. Hah, coming from a stan of Miss Cancelled 😂

What do you expect, KJW stans will just take the insults and not retaliate? If you want people to stop mentioning your fave, call out your fellow fans and stop them from being toxic lol. But no, of course you won’t do that because you’re a hypocrite with double standards and you will just call out other fandoms, not yours. Talk about acting like a victim lol

    • @Yuri Far out you took the bait and it seems you’ve copied your post from now let me guess …X
No one mentioned the X posts of SYJ and KJW but of course it had to be a KJW stan to go ahead and drop it into something unrelated just to appear relevant. If saying SYJ is Miss Cancelled and it helps you sleep at night then good, you do you boo. Funny how over 100+ comments the itch couldn’t be contained SYJ name somehow made it here. Other posts mentioning SYJ name as an opportunity to throw shade it’s highly amusing cos she really has gotten under your skin aye. Go grab some aloe vera and slather it on to cool down. BTW don’t flatter yourself. Hyunji and Yeye fans are happy with a lil crumb or 2 that we get about SYJ and with Eve currently screening we couldn’t give 2 hoots as to what is happening outside of that. I can say your desperation for attention is really admirable.

  28. 164 comments! I’m laughing out loud.

PMY inspired ppl to talk….WHATEVER and WHOEVER. She is indeed popular. LOL.
