Deng Wei Stuck in Lack of Casting After Drop in Popularity Post Lost You Forever and His Team Still Insisting on S+ Level Dramas

Striking while the iron is hot also means picking the right hills to die on the right now C-actor Deng Wei is looking very foolish after squandering his big break last summer. When Lost You Forever Part 1 was released in summer of 2023, his male lead character Tu Shan Jing was very well liked and his performance garnered a lot of new fans. He was top or near top of the buzz rankings for that whole month it aired and should have parlayed that to leveling up. He went into his next drama Love of the Divine Tree as male lead which started filming in October 2023 but since it wrapped nearly 8 months ago he has not been cast in another drama. That is very long break for someone who is up-and-coming we see his same level male leads doing 2-3 dramas a year these days to keep the momentum going. Word is that his team is only interested in a S+ production where he is the male lead even if second billed to a bigger name actress but there are so few S+ dramas a year and even more male leads angling for it.

  2. You can’t take a break in this industry. There’s always younger and better looking people coming. Plus, his looks and acting aren’t that attractive to me.

  3. Arrogance is the downfall of all these upstarts. He doesn’t have the skills and even his aesthetics are just average. He has also burned bridges with his overuse of water and trying to leech from famous names.

In this economic downturn producers want people who bring actual results. It can actually be seen quite clearly and he is not the only one facing reality. Supposedly bigger names than him are too.

  4. It’s not like his acting got worst. They filmed straight through. He was meh to begin with. Unfortunately, the story just got worst. Tu Shan Jing was at least sweet and charming in contrast to two jerks in the first half of the story, then it flipped and the other two guys became sweet and charming enough too in their own ways, while Tu Shan Jing just became the worst and weakest of the three guys.

I was always of the opinion that Xiao Yao definitely was not an amazing enough human for three dudes to fight over, so I ended up getting annoyed by all three/four dudes later in Part 1, anyways, so…

Sucks for him that the story sucked and he didn’t have enough acting talent or charisma to work a little magic for a dull character 🤷🏻‍♂️

  5. Or it could be that he actually wasn’t as popular as appeared, nor has the amount of potential he thinks he has. Both C-movie and C-drama industries don’t get as much investment anymore due to poor economy and crackdown on money laundering. That’s why investors are only putting their money into dramas/movies with the truly popular actors who can deliver good results now. Most of the C-movies released this summer are performing badly in the box office too.

  6. He was in a show with 2 other actors better than him and now his team thinks he is a top star. No amount of bought hot searches will convince people that Tushan Jing was a better received character than Xiang Liu. In terms of acting Yang Zi and Zhang Wangyi got more praise, Tan Jianci was a scene stealer, Deng Wei got popular as a good looking vase. The industry already recognized ZWY and TJC efforts and their career reflect that, YZ got her magnolia awards nomination , he should humble himself and act in low budget productions. Imagine investing a lot of money to flop, the industry is sensitive especially after FSMM2. Production houses are very concerned about their profits and little by little they are opening big IPs to outside actors, in house actors have to hustle more these days, he also needs to hustle because there are plenty of good looking actors with better acting skills.

    • He does not have plastic surgery, he may have cosmetic processes that did not require going under the knife. There are quite a few pictures of him as a pre-teen (Koala won’t let me link, but there are no abysmal differences). What I’ve noticed is that he lost quite a bit of weight to forcibly approach being a flower boy, and that’s why his facial harmony went down. He looked better with more punds on his face in his debut projects. But yes, he has never performed well.

    • @M, @Somebody – He looked way better b4. Like many asians b4 they try to fit in their bs (beauty standard but the pun is intended).

@M, you need to quit the “https” in order to post the links on here 🙂

      • He fit the beauty standard before, though. He was already handsome before he lost weight and started putting on more make-up.

  7. Look at all the butthurt Xiao Zhan fans hating on Deng Wei here lol.

If he’s that bad why are y’all behaving like he’s a threat to your gege’s acting career?

    • In physical appearance both Deng Wei and Xiao Zhan are only good-looking TO ME in period productions. In modern projects I find them ordinary-looking, and very skinny. However, Xiao Zhan CAN act. He has a good and growing acting range. One of the few Chinese traffic stars who works to be a serious actor.

      • Deng Wei, on the other hand, is not a solid actor nor have his roles been an explosive factor for him. If he doesn’t have strong backing, it’s unlikely he’ll be able to get projects. There are actors who have no talent but their connections keep them afloat, especially if they’re attractive.

    • lol there’s like a super long list of actors head of DW before he could even become a potential threat to XZ. what a joke.

  8. Oh well, at least there is one thing he succeed very well. He lives rent free inside of the minds of fans of other actors.
The nasty comments toward a guy who is a not threat to anyone is interesting. It shows how it’s like being target of organized attacks by fandoms of established idols.
Like I said before in my comments in other articles. Fandoms of Chinese actors operate like KPOP’s fandoms so there is only utter sick madness inside of this world.

    • If you think anyone is going to organise attacks against a guy who can’t find work in so many months and is usually just a source of mockery for his own stupidity to cnetz then you really are delusional lmao

    • abusive, defamatory and violent language is part of the feedback today under the excuses of freedom of expression. but certainly in china there is another level despite the restrictions of its government. they censor saying that it is to prevent their society from degenerating but i do not see the results online.

    • “Target of organized attacks” LMAO this is so cringey. So to you, people can’t make valid criticisms, otherwise they must be fans of other actors? Do you consider Koala a fan of other actors as well? Since she mentioned Deng Wei as very foolish?

  9. I find it ridiculous to worship artists as if they were deidities. It is their job to perform well in their profession technically. Excuses are unnecessary.

I definitely move to where there’s talent. And Deng Wei is not an actor with good skills.

His character in Lost You Forever is not simple as it seems, but Deng Wei only gave him one dimension and he made him look generic, predictable.

If Lost You Forever couldn’t make Deng Wei a rising star, regardless of the quality of the drama, what more does he need?

He definitely reminds me of Yang Chao Yue. They would have gained more experience in support roles for major productions than they were offered, but they preferred to act directly as leads for popularity and money.

In the Chinese industry there are hundreds of cases like them. And there are few who redeem themselves.

That said, I don’t agree with any comment that consists of name-calling, mockery or defamation.

    • it’s not related to east asian entertainment but i reminded people who justify how bland scott eastwood is as an actor. they say he lacks opportunities. and i laugh because this man has been in productions of different genres, with different roles and he is still so-so. what more opportunities do you want him to have when literally his dad is icon clint eastwood? lmao. i don’t expect him to be as talented as his father but i do expect him to be reasonably good at acting.

  10. Lost You Forever season 2 was an utter disappointment…that’s not his fault, he doesn’t have much screentime and did the best he could with what he was given tbh. They destroyed ML’s arc (the part I was anticipating the most) and they lost me forever as well. Even Xiang Liu badassery couldn’t save it.

As for his skills, he’s decent for someone who doesn’t have an acting background imo (I’ve seen worse) Tushan Jing is a challenging character to portray, even most experienced actors would struggle to give life to such character (character wasn’t an audience favorite to begin with- too bland and passive…an obvious poisoned chalice for any actors) He was good in ‘Miss the Dragon’, better than the leads. Drama was bad but second pairing really stole the show. Moreover, he has been playing ‘goody two shoes’ roles back to back, roles that failed to attract the audience who prefers morally grey characters over the green flags. I’m most looking forward to his villain era in ‘Take Me Where the Clouds Rise’…he may still surprise us.

Concerning his team, they’re just greedy. He’s not to blame, as a newbie in the industry, he doesn’t have much a say in all this… (same thing happened to Chen Zhe Yuan…earning him a bad reputation in the end)

    • Tushan Jing is passive and physically weak, but he is also supposed to be cunning. But Deng Wei failed to present such characteristics. I have seen characters similar to him being played with charisma and grace, leaving imagination in me as each episode ended.

    • He was one of the few good things in Miss the Dragon. I would be sad to see him fade away in obscurity. I hope his team will be more realistic and do right by him.

    • @Panda_eyes

I think deng wei is decent for someone with no history for lead roles. I recall he was impressive during the first part of Lost Your Forever. I believe his role was supposed to be unassuming, introvert and quiet so he won’t have much to display a range of acting. I certainly agree he did pretty well though overshadowed by the other two male leads who had more extrovert roles.

I certainly like him in Miss the Dragon and as for his other roles, those were supporting ones without much avenues to show case his abilities. Of course I don’t think he is the best actor now but perhaps this is why the team trying to look for better roles for him to expand his portfolio.

Still it’s not good to stay out of the filming cycle for too long. It’s better they settle for good leading roles for him asap.

  11. S+ does not mean a good quality project. I understand that it generates numbers, which is the only aspect that seems to matter to Chinese entertainment nowadays.

I appreciate Chinese culture because I have pleasant memories of it from my childhood. However I find it hard to recommend good Chinese productions to those who ask me, especially if they are not interested in historical series or movies. LOL. I tried to consume donghuas and while the animation is engaging, the narrative quality remains low.

I’ll settle for Chinese novels for now. LOL.

  12. If an actor or actress is constantly filming dramas, the people in comments complain that they are overexposed and would like to see someone else.

If they take longer breaks and are a bit more picky with their projects they are arrogant and not talented enough to be picky.

    Make up your mind.

I’m not his fan by a longshot, as I agree that he’s rather boring on screen (although I have only ever saw him in two dramas), but I really have to point out the hypocrisy.

    • He isn’t picky. Eight months isn’t a break. It’s unemployment. He simply can’t get roles. Be for real now. He tried desperately to hype himself up during lyf by latching on to stronger names and leeching data and then later on by buying water but that’s all smoke and mirrors.

He expected that to work for him because granted, it was sort of working for others. But inflation hit and now all of them are in the do not touch basket unless their own companies are capable of producing dramas. He met reality, that’s all. He should accept smaller roles and he will have work. He doesn’t want to. Ok enjoy your unemployment.

  13. I think the ppl who are bullying are actually the same one person.

As always is the mgmt team fault not a powerless newcomer.

  14. He’s also in the Cdrama adaptation of Saiunkoku Monogatari with Li Yi Tong and Joseph Zheng. I hope iQiyi airs it this year coz I love the anime.

  15. This dude 2-mins fame was getting caught in 4k pooping in the middle of nowhere then paying a papz to take the blame 🤣
