Prestige C-drama This Thriving Land with Yang Mi and Ou Hao Premieres to Rapturous Reviews and is the Fastest iQiyi Drama to Hit 10,000 Heat Index and Also Breaks 3% Ratings on CCTV
Well this drama is gunning for not just best C-drama of 2025 but also the most heat and views. Right now I would put Legend of Zang Hai as the frontrunner but that aired in the first half of the year and there was always going to be contenders that come in the second half. Prestige and period C-drama This Thriving Land with Yang Mi and Ou Hao just premiered last week and is already setting records. It’s hit 10,000 heat index on iQiyi and is the fastest drama on that platform to do so, and since it’s also airing terrestrially on CCTV-8 over there it also broke 3% ratings an incredible feat as anything over 2% is considered a hit. It’s set in a small town/village where societal pressures, traditional values, and the changing times are all explored with heart and depth without the veneer of airbrushing either the visuals of the characters or the difficulties of that era. This is the hit that Yang Mi has needed after years of doing idol dramas that don’t challenge her and has aired to unimpressive results so good on her for steering away from that now.

Cnetizens are impressed with all the side characters’ performances but not Yang Mi’s in this drama. Personally I am more impressed with how far Xing Fei’s acting has came along since her idol drama days.
I am watching it! And so far so good. I hope the story stays focused on the lives of the farmers (which I find very interesting) I dread it might become a story about the communist party or something. Then I may have to bail 😆 So I pray everyday it won’t go off the rails.
Yang mi is not the best actor in the okay, but she is hanging in there. I watched 2 episode of that Zang Hai and I could not continue. I watched 16 episode of Thriving Land drama and they flew so fast. It reminds me of When Life gives you tangerines. 😊
They definitely look different than how they normally appear in dramas. Like more dowdy. Makes it more focused on acting instead of appearances. That is a tough part to expand on if most dramas she has done always were based on her looks and keeping up an appearance so to speak. Will check it out when it wraps up because these dramas take time to sub.
To be fair, this is probably more of an ensemble drama even though she’s considered the main character. She’s trying her best next to incredible actors. Being the worst one in the bunch is hardly an insult when you’re getting compared to Ni Dahong and Qin Hailu. She’s much better than in her recent spy drama, where she was basically unwatchable.
hahaha who will going to watch drama with Ni Dahong as the main lead????
Oh please, spare us!! If her star power alone was enough to bring in this amount of viewers, her last couple of dramas wouldn’t have been total flops. This drama has a good script and great casting. Don’t minimize other people just to prop up your idol. Just cuz someone doesn’t sing praises about a celebrity, doesn’t mean they’re “black-hearted fans”.
PAA!!!!!! I heard another face slap loudly hahahahaha….
Before was Yang Yang now Yang Mi
those black hearted fan is not watching for entertainment they watch
to find weaknesses and destroy other people
Congrats to Yang Mi…worthy of veteran actress
Dont make excuse as such other play well thus lift her
Its a work together, without the main actress play well how could the
drama be successful? (not only they are black hearted but stup1d as well LOL)
I am not fan of certain actor/actress , but I hate those black hearted fans
This is good. I was slogging through a couple of mid to bad costume dramas, and glad I made the switch, the episodes just zip by so fast when the story is engaging.
Kudos to Yang Mi for headlining this drama. She might not be the best actress but she is holding up well, and for sure it is her star power that brings in the viewers.
I am really interested in this one, but I will wait a bit to see if it stays relatively neutral (as far as possible in PRC) or it evolves into the Little Red Book. Which, by the way, I totally admit that chinese shows have the right to do, but for international viewers it gets tiring.
Rosy pictures of PRC citizens striving for a promising and prosperous life along with relentless moral preaching as usual. All hail to the PRC dynasty! LMAO. What else should you expect from a C period drama? I just laughed off those laughable tropes of agitprop when watching my fav’s period dramas. CCP authority is still too dumb to realize that propaganda doesn’t work through drama. Drama fans aren’t dumb. Those who believe in the ruling will believe in communism and others don’t regardless. Nothing will change after watching a drama riddled with state propaganda. LOL.
I loved it!!! I watched it like the first 12 episodes over night and every other day 4 to 5 episodes. Cry like a baby at the last episode. I am from Greece and huge fan of chinese dramas and movies and korean and japanesse. But this one … i will always remember it charish it. I believe its a masterpiece.
