Preview and Stills of the Gorgeous New TW-drama Amour et Pâtisserie Airing this Saturday
Wow, who let the awesome dogs out over at PTS? While GTV and SETTV duke it out for frothy idol-fare and CTS and CTV barely hang in there airing crap filler dramas, PTS has long been the home for the good stuff that doesn’t always catch my eye. The last time a PTS drama won my everlasting love was Black & White back in 2009, but this new baking-themed drama looks about as amazing as it gets. Premiering this Saturday night, the teasers and long trailer for Amour et Pâtisserie (Chinese title 沒有名字的甜點店 the literal translation is The Patisserie with No Name) is wonderfully moody and funny, poignant and romantic. This is the quality drama I’ve been wanting but haven’t seen around in ages. The leading lady is Sandrine Pinna, in her first drama leading role since Endless Love with Wilbur Pan in 2010. I didn’t use to like her despite her being an award-winning actress in film, but she totally blew me away last year when she did a web-movie playing the gay ex-girlfriend of Rainie Yang and here she looks lovely and plays a super cool pastry chef. Her two leading men are Liu Yi Hao (the Taiwanese Lee Chun Hee) and Xiu Jie Kai, both of whom look to have different but equally rich chemistry with Sandrine onscreen.
Sandrine is Tian Tian (her name borrowing from Candy Candy fame), a no-nonsense prickly pastry chef running a patisserie with no name, making only three desserts a day based on her daily whim. Liu Yi Hao is Allen, a guy who stumbles on the patisserie after he gets his stuff stolen and ends up working there for room and board. And Xiu Jie Kai is Shang Yu Yen, a fellow master patissier and Tian Tian’s ex-boyfriend. The drama went abroad to film in Paris at Le Cordon Bleu, which is all sorts of cute since Sandrine is half-French (though born and raised in Taiwan). The story follows the denizens of the patisserie and the eccentric customers who encounter this odd little place. In the long preview you meet some of them and I haven’t laughed this sincerely in ages at how sweet the humor is, especially with the over-the-hill actress who always play evil mother-in-laws in dramas and the actor stuck playing dead people. The scene where the gang makes a French king cake for the unlucky actor to “luckily” bite into the hidden figurine made me awwww so hard when after he leaves everyone spits out the figurine hidden in their mouths but for one dude who accidentally ate his. This one looks like a quality winner and I’m dying to watch the first episode tomorrow. I will probably gain 10 lbs after the drama is done because the glorious baking scenes will made me crave sweets like mad.
All references to Fondant Garden shall be excised forthwith. The baking scenes are probably some of the best I’ve ever seen onscreen plus from the long trailer the story appears to be well thought out and very low-key in its emotional narrative. I already appreciate it for how refined it feels. The music is perfect, the cinematography is luscious, and the acting is intriguing and sincere.
Short previews for Amour et Pâtisserie:
Tian Tian version:
Allen version:
Yu Wen version:
Doesn’t these teasers look phenomenal? Now watch the entire long trailer. I already love not only the OTP, I also love all the quirky folks that come in and out of the patisserie. I can’t wait to see how all their stories develop.
Long 17-minute trailer for Amour et Pâtisserie:
The first few minutes of the long trail is stright up pastry porn! I’m in.
The teaser does look great! I can’t stop thinking about all the pastries…yummmmmm. I think I’m in a trance ;).
I don’t know how I feel about this yet, but Liu Yi Hao is adorable, and the trailers are beautifully shot and edited. Xiu Jie Kai and Chris Wu are some of the actors I wish would take less second male leading roles, although Chris Wu did make his Terry memorable.
You and me both
i hope the subs will be in quality too:D when a drama features pro food making it’s a must-watch for me 😀 last time when watching j-drama hungry i was taken by french cuisine and found myself making terrines in my kitchen:D now moving onto french patisserie:D so exciting:D
i watched hungry too..! and hell yes, i am hungry right now! lOl
The show looks cute…..
What do you mean by the reference “the Taiwanese Lee Chun Hee” by the way..
Awww looking good looking good. Definitely gonna check this one out. Thanks for sharing!!
the curly haired guy is adorable! the lead actress seems a bit stiff to me, but i’ll check this out, i really hope it’s good!
Sigh. Why don’t any of my ex-boyfriends look like that?
I just love the laid back vibe I get from TW dramas. ….which you never get from Kdramas. Taiwan really feels like the Brazil of Asia.
“Taiwan really feels like the Brazil of Asia.” How interesting the way you put it.
My husband has been to many countries and is quite observant of different cultures. After a trip to Brazil, he commented that Sao Paulo, the largest city of Brazil, felt just like Taipei, the largest city of Taiwan. I wonder why? I guess I have to watch a drama from Brazil to see the similarities. Any recommendation?
I don’t know anything about Brazil except Bossa Nova. I have met a few Brazilian. They just seem very laid back. I don’t know much about TW too except their dramas and very good art films They seem to have great indie music scene too. Both countries seem to have this wonderful laid back energy.
I watched the entire long trailer even though I didn’t understand a word. There’s something very appealing about the drama. And the food is amazing!!
Both the guys seem very appealing…..Not at all macho…Just my type.
I hope this is good. I rarely manage to make my way through TW dramas, I just get too stuck the clichés and, more often than not, infuriatingly weak (or weakening) heroines. Tian Tian doesn’t look so far weak though – she seems like a strong character, and let’s hope that the return of the ex doesn’t mess that up (especially because the other guy seems totally adorable!). It still looks like there is some sort of the ex-thinks-he-has-rights scenario, but fingers crossed that this drama won’t spin it out into something that’s been done a million times.
You’ve made sound all good, the trailers look enticing, I really hope it will deliver!
I’m a fan of the adorable Liu Yi Hao, through his modeling career, his smile just make me swoon. Although I’m happy for him getting his first lead role but at the same time, it’s a pity that Xiu Jie Kai took second lead again…
I totally love the cinematography, It’s really one of the best in TW-drama.
You’re so right, based on the trailers, this looks all kinds of awesome! Keeping my fingers crossed it turns out good!
Finally a new drama to look forward to! Recently was just commenting with my friend how Taiwan seemed to have drop in standard for their dramas! I think there’s hope, haha.
I won’t be surprised if the cinematography for the series is not like its teasers. Point in reference, look at Ti amo Chocolate’s teasers, and end result, I was deceived.
‘Love and Pastry’, literally its French title; sounds way better than it’s Chinese title. Darn producers, they pulled out those thunder thigh guns, tricking me with all these sinfully oozing goodness called French desserts. Well, there goes my Summer diet. (=
See you near the scale later Madame.
i definitely wanna follow this drama! pastries = yum! does anyone know where we can watch it?
any one know the English song in the third episode when the tall dude was following the head pastry chef (Sandrine penna) to the bus stop?
