Jang Hyuk Confirms jTBC Sageuk My Country with Youngsters Yang Se Jong, Woo Do Hwan, and Seolhyun

When Jang Hyuk was in the sageuk Tree with Deep Roots as the male lead, the King role was played by Han Seok Kyu as the older and Song Joong Ki as the younger. Eight years later it’s time for Jang Hyuk to be the veteran of the sageuk pack, this time taking on the role of the King character in upcoming jTBC drama My Country.  He’ll be providing the gravitas and hopefully mentorship of the three young leads Yang Se Jong, Woo Do Hwan, and especially Seolhyun.

The drama is set in earlier Korean historical times during the turbulent end of the Goryeo period to the beginning of the Joseon period, and anytime there is a dynastic change expect the drama to be all about pursuing revolution for the greater good of of a stagnant political establishment. There’s a mixed bag production team lined up with the PD of Nice Guy and Wonderful Days but the screenwriter of Master of Revenge and Inspiring Generation. I’m thrilled Jang Hyuk is confirmed because he makes every role memorable and will be a reason to check this one out in the second half of 2019.

  1. I read and wept and I’m at a loss because I adore JH and WDH and am conflicted to either watch and be traumatised or not and miss out on 2 great actors. Why Drama Gods did you have to make life so damn difficult?

  2. His cameo in The Crowned Clown was good. It seems he was a terrible father but the scene with YJG was very intense. I’m curious to see him in this drama.
