Shin Sung Rok, Eugene, and Lee Ji Ah in Talks for K-drama Penthouse From the Screenwriter and PD of Makjang Hit An Empress Dignity
It’s fun to start looking ahead into 2020 and there has already been a handful of dramas reported and readied. One of the more talked about dramas of 2019 was SBS royal family makjang crazy An Empress Dignity (The Last Empress), which aired in late 2018 and finished in early 2019. The PD and screenwriter duo from that drama will be reuniting for another makjang tale titled Penthouse. It’s a real estate development based story centered around the ambition and social climbing goals of the female lead, and is in talks with Eugene and Lee Ji Ah for the leads. For the male lead it’s likely Shin Sung Rok who worked with this team in Empress already, though this drama doesn’t quite tempt me based on synopsis and production team. I still can’t believe it’s going to be 2020 in K-drama land, technically its my 3rd decade watching K-dramas now and goodness have things both changed radically yet the fundamentals of what hooks viewers have stayed the same. Delicious Hallyu crack, heh.
It’s going to be stupid nonsense, but it’s probably going to be entertaining as fuck! (I usually dislike makjang, but Kim Sun-ok really writes with gusto and aplomb.)
If this is confirmed it will be a 3 dad 1 Mom reunion for Shin Sung Rok and Eugene. That drama was ~12 years ago!
Whoaaaaa! I hope Eugene accepts! It’s been so long since I’ve seen her in dramas. I’ve missed her dearly. I have a soft spot for her because of her S.E.S. days and I was a total fangirl. ? I hope she gets to star with Shin Sung Rock so they can reunite after Three Dads, One Mom. I honestly did not realize Shin Sung Rock was in there because he looked so young and innocent in there. Hehe.
Yes for Eugene but with Lee Ji Ah I hope she has a different story arc. It was sad to watch her as the cheating wife in My Ahjusshi.
Miss koala, not sure if you’ll even see this and I’m coming with “no pressure” vibes but I’m wondering if you’ll be doing a post about your favorite dramas of the year and maybe even the decade?! I’d love to see your picks (we seem to have similar tastes?!) and I think the community discussion would be quite interesting and lively!
