Well this is definitely slim pickings at MBC this year for the Year End Drama Awards, but what else is new. This year even the contenders for the Daesang are retreads, in the sense that it’s three male leads who have all won MBC Daesangs in the past. So Ji Sub for Doctor Lawyer, then there is Lee Jong Seok in Big Mouth, and also in the running is Park Hae Jin for From Now On, Showtime. I don’t really care who wins when normally I have an opinion if someone gave an incredible performance even if the drama is low rated or someone just brought in all the viewers with a buzzy drama that got high ratings, this is a company event and it should rewards the star that really brought shine to MBC. I think it’s really Lee Jong Seok’s Daesang to lose, Big Mouth is the ONLY drama that even got broader buzz and he got both good reviews and until the ending that was solely the fault of the screenwriter the drama was going well. I’m also bummed that a late year drama Gold Spoon which was initially so promising turned out to be like a dim duck swimming in circles with the writing but it did allow the four young leads to have fun, chew scenery, and on occasion give a good performance.
