Park Shin Hye and Park Hyung Sik Go Back to High School in First Drama Poster for jTBC’s Dr. Slump

There is a new poster for jTBC drama Dr. Slump and other than the title that keeps redirecting any searches for it to the famous Toriyama Akira manga of the same name, which annoys me when I can’t find news easily, now the lackluster first promos are annoying me. The drama stars Park Shin Hye and Park Hyung Sik and the production seems to think the leads are just average K-stars rather than two of the biggest names of their gen. The poster above looks photoshopped and I can’t feel any energy or chemistry from them. It also seems to be a nod back to their Heirs days from their first drama together ten years ago. I’m so excited about this drama and legit just want my babies to be showcased properly.

Park Shin Hye and Park Hyung Sik Go Back to High School in First Drama Poster for jTBC’s Dr. Slump — 14 Comments

  1. as a fairly recent K-drama aficionado (pandemic era), these two names do not excite me much (understood that they were pretty big in the 2010s). Park Hyung Sik I know mostly because he’s part of the Wooga squad (his 2020s dramas all performed so-so), and Park Shin Hye’s drama Sisyphus didn’t really make waves (she was more in the news for getting married and having a baby). I guess we’ll see if this drama will put them on the map again

    • I agree with park shin hye not having good result among her recent works, but I think park hyun sik’s happiness with han hyo joo is quite popular.

He was underperforming in our blooming youth though, and soundtrack #1 received polarizing reviews with some loving it and some saying it’s boring. For me soundtrack #1 is quite good. But his best drama is undoubtedly 2017 do bongsoon.

As for park shin hye, her best should be 2015 pinocchio, her subsequent drama like the doctors and memories of alhambra just fell short.

      • Actually sisyphus wasn’t a big thing but even so it broke a few records when it aired and then the ratings stagnated. It’s not a catastrophe, but it’s a flop compared to what she delivered before. Maybe with a proper promotion from Netflix it would have made some noise, but at the time Netflix’s focus was on Vincenzo.
While Doctor was definitely a big hit with high rantings, as was Memories of Alhambra, although I hate the latter.

      • Actually, Doctors is her best drama in terms where her character was the main focus , the ratings and popularity, with it having the highest rating of almost 24%. Turkey made a remake of this drama and it was syndicated in a lot of Asian countries where it were shown in their tv stations.
Pinocchio’s highest rating was only 17% while The heirs was her highest with 29%.

      • @Tori I’m just talking about my view on it. The doctors was hard to immerse due to the age gap being too big. The beginning was really fun but once it goes to midway when the romance gets more pronounced it became a chore to watch. So I felt like pinocchio was better since it was good consistently. But this is a personal opinion. Thanks for the info on the rating, I didn’t really know about it since in those years I don’t really pay attention to ratings

    • Park Shin Hye was or is a Top star, her popularity was no joke . She worked with many top stars and popular actors . I never clicked with her acting but it’s hard to not like her as she is a positive, natural,…person . But nowadays the competition is harder than before as one can become popular in one day and a nobobody the next month . She took a little hiatus to wed and have a baby so i wish her the best as Park Eun Bin, Lee Se Young, Han So Hee, Suzy , …just to name a few ones are in the place . As for Park Hyung Sik ,i like him very much even if he was underperforming in Our blooming youth and he didn’t click well with Han So Hee . In terms of popularity , he wasn’t at the same level as Park Shin Hye .

      • Yep, Park Hyung Sik was never or even reach the height of Park shin Hye’s popularity . She was a top star before with dramas that are Hit after hit. And she was the very first Korean actress ever to go on an Asian fan meet tour. I agree from an above comment that she was really big around 2010’s, that was her decade.

      • Nonetheless, I like PHS way more than PSH. TBH, I don’t consider PSH a great actress with talent. She may be very popular and likable in K-ent. But I’ve never found her charismatic on screen. Her acting was forgettable to me. I watched her old dramas mostly for her male costars. LOL

      • @somebody – of course we all have our personal preference. You may not like PSH but there are a lot who does. Same way that there are others that don’t like your fave too.
We are just stating the truth.

      • @Ram, you may not know my fave is completely irrelevant to K-ent although I’m more a Kdrama fan than a Cdrama fan. And My fave is a MAN. LOL. Surely that’s my personal opinion and we just agree to disagree.

  2. I don’t really like the focus on their teenagers years instead of their adult life.

I wish they stop using adult actors to play their younger counterpart.

    • I agree, we could’ve gotten another Castaway Diva-like spotlight for talented teen actors here but it was a missed opportunity. I guess it depends on the style of casting directors and they certainly wanted to utilize the fact that the leads worked together on a high school drama before.

  3. Absolutely thrilled to see Park Shin Hye and Park Hyung Sik teaming up for JTBC’s Dr. Slump! The drama poster looks intriguing, and I can’t wait to witness these talented actors take on high school roles. Their chemistry is bound to make this series a must-watch. Oh, and if anyone needs a break from the high school drama, consider unwinding on a serene Dhow Cruise Deira in Dubai – a perfect way to relax and soak in the breathtaking views!
