Bai Lu Confirmed for Youku Mystery C-drama Strange Tales of Tang Palace with Likely Male Lead Wang Xing Yue

C-drama Strange Tales of Tang Palace (唐宫奇案之血玉韘) was confirmed last week by streaming platform Youku and will be starring Bai Lu as the top billed female lead. The male lead was not announced but from casting insiders rumors it remains Wang Xing Yue and is basically locked in from his scheduling being available and also this drama being a major push from their same agency head honcho Yu Zheng to make happen. Bai Lu remains not yet re-signed with Yu Zheng’s agency and insiders think this is her last drama under him and may be why she’s accepted it as a thank you and farewell to him of sorts, since industry chatter has it that she doesn’t want to keep doing period dramas anymore. I’m just glad I really like Wang Xing Yue now after The Double so I can get more expected about this drama.

Bai Lu Confirmed for Youku Mystery C-drama Strange Tales of Tang Palace with Likely Male Lead Wang Xing Yue — 27 Comments

  1. It will be great to see WXY swag it out in flamboyant Tang dynasty costumes. I am not sure of Bail Lu. I get bored of her easily. Hope they are give her an interesting role. She needs to change it up.

    • Yes I am very excited about Wang Xing Yue coz he is really versatile. I’ve seen him in four dramas and each time he gives different vibes and convincingly adopts different personalities.

I agree Bai Lu has been taking on similar roles in recent dramas. To be frank, I prefer her in gentler and more feminine roles.

Apart from The Legends, I don’t quite warm up to her aggressive or stubborn or loud characters.

  2. So excited for this! Both great actors that i love and the chemistry is already there. Pleaseee let the story be good and well written. This casting shouldn’t be wasted by poor story telling and subpar production

  3. What is it about the Tang Dynasty that we get all those “strange tales”? Why not “Strange tales of the Song Dynasty” for a change? 😆

  4. Is there more to the rumour about Bai Lu not wanting to do period dramas anymore?

Her earlier roles made me a fan of her and I loved how authentic she looked back then, but her recent roles, including the unreleased Moonlight Mystique, are just a combination of overdone beauty filters plus the same acting style without much nuance. So, it’s interesting to hear that maybe this isn’t what she actually wants to do.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to this drama. It really would be great to finally see these two as the lead actors for once!

    • No lol. Bai Lu is known for liking trendy stuffs, and period dramas are essential to maintaining popularity and trend. She’ll fade away if she stick to serious dramas like Northward.
I think she just doesn’t want to help Yu Zheng push his newbies anymore.

  5. Sorry Bai Lu, no roles for you except dragging Yu Zheng’s current hopeful.

I wish she could get something heavier, modern, without these boy toys that change every season. Poor woman. And now billing problems with this one.

      • @Nah

It’s not a billing problem between the actors though, it’s a silly fight between the fans that Yu Zheng seems to be encouraging to create more buzz.

      • @a

It is absolutely a billing problem and that YZ is encouraging it just makes it worse because with her long list of work she should absolutely have no issues.

YZ is putting her in a position where not only does she have to carry yet another one of his pets but she is going to have to deal with his mess and the mess of his fans who are by now quite well known for being highly unpleasant towards actresses.

      • @Nah

Posting an individual poster on the day of his casting announcement and pinning it on social media for a day (or less since her fans pitched a fit) is not a billing issue though, it’s a publicity/marketing one. Yes, his fans are annoying but I’ve seen attacks and vitriol from both sides, let’s not act like either fandom is less crazy here.

  6. I thought this will be a female centric drama when they only announced BaiLu as lead last week. Since WXY is also in it now, I guess it won’t be then?

      • There are quite a few C actors being overexposed. They all need to slow down or just take a break or just quit LOL. C-ent also needs to reallocate their limited financial resources for better products, scrip writers, directors, CGI directors, and post-production editors etc. Incompetent actors have been wasting too much money.

    • Yup so predictable and boring. I don’t find her acting that good either, she has limited range and her eyes are always dead. I find it quite frustrating that these dramas with the same old actors and actresses are the ones that are constantly being streamed on international platforms when China has a ton more better written stories with non liuliang actors.
And I agree there is a group of c actors n actresses being over exposed currently, won’t name names, and really just need to take a break. Tired of seeing their stale acting over n over

    • The epitome of a bland actress with mid acting. YuZheng hard pushing that onscreen pairing only cause of The success of The Double where people literally shipped WXY with WJY

      • @Sirey epitome of bland actress indeed! I’m so amused whenever I go on reddit cdrama and ppl hype her up like she’s some acting master and constantly recommending her dramas as if it’s the best thing they’ve ever watched. So shallow and reeks of poor taste

  7. I wish the english title wasn’t Strange Tales of Tang Palace. Makes it sound like a knock-off of Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty.

I’m hope both Bai Lu and Wang Xin-yue will find their roles fun and interesting! Seems like they will both play government officials who investigate stuff?

  8. I love it! Finally Zhang Zhe gets more screen time with the girl!
[I’m one of those readers of the novel who thinks Zhang Zhe should have been the OTP with Jiang Er in Kunning Palace, respectively portrayed by WXY and Bailu. 🙂 I gather there’s no romance in this one, but I’m happy with just screen time.]

But outside of that, I think Bailu has nice chemistry with her coleads and does fine in idol period costume so although she isn’t the second coming of Brigitte Lin I’m ok with watching her stuff!
