Veteran C-actress Liu Xiaoqing, a top star in her heyday and still commanding onscreen as evidenced by her small but meaningful role as the Wei family Grandma in The Prisoner of Beauty, is being investigated for tax evasion after a tipster named Mr. Wang claimed she mischaracterized certain endorsement income to put it into a lower tax bracket. The government confirmed it got the tip and is investigating in due course, and Liu Xiaoqing’s agency released a strong statement that the tipster is a scammer with a grudge against her after losing a court case and this tax evasion claim is false. Her side will cooperate with the investigation and claims she will be exonerated. In 2002 she was also investigated for tax evasion but managed to resume her career years later so if she did it again that would be more than just an unknowing mistake. She’s such a minor/guest character that it shouldn’t affect the airing of the rest of the drama. She’s on screen a total of like 10 minutes so far and we’re 1/4 into the drama.
Lmao this tip didn’t come when Liu Xiaoqing was on that variety show, but came up when Prisoner of Beauty was airing. Not hard to guess that someone is sore that the drama aired instead of theirs and is doing well.
