July 2026 Rumored to Have Big Male Lead C-drama Showdown with Zhang Ling He’s Overdo Premiering at the Same Time as Love for You with Song Wei Long
There has been a spate of big name actress C-dramas airing either head-to-head or premiering in such proximity that it’s basically direct competition. Now we’re getting a male lead showdown coming in likely early July 2026 so in a few weeks next month. C-ent airing rumor has Republic era period romance C-drama Overdo (这一秒过火 Zhe Yi Miao Guo Huo) with Zhang Ling He and Wang Chu Ran airing likely July 4th and then modern young romance C-drama Love for You (野狗骨头 Ye Go Gu Tou) with Song Wei Long and Zhang Jing Yi premiering the next day on July 5th. Hilariously Song Wei Long’s lower budget period romance The Eternal Fragrance with Ju Jing Yi is also rumored to air in July so he may be also competing with himself lol. This will be fun if it happens, love seeing fan wars and additional buzz with the competition, not to mention I am interested in both Overdo and Love for You so yay for dramas airing soon I want to watch since June so far has been meh.
Not interested in any of these genres, but I will tune in to Overdo to see how ZLH fares since this is the first drama right following his breakout hit.

It’s just an idol romance set in the republican time, not a real, serious Republican drama. It’s a double lead with Wang Churan, not a big male lead. Not to mention whoever dressed ZLH dressed him like he was cosplaying.
The other is also an idol romance, with a dual lead. And there are more dramas happened at the same time.
Neither one of these men can act so it will come down to who has better chemistry for romance lovers.
you are not their target audiences so just shut up. Go look for other stuffs you may like perhaps documentaries. These dramas are work of fictions with good looking men and women for a reason, to make people watch them, tell me who want to watch uglies.

This is an idol drama, that is its qualification. A big male lead is something else and a Republican drama something else too.
That you have a chip on your shoulder from watching idol dramas only, well it’s not my problem you have 2 brain cells left and that’s the height of what you can handle. You shouldn’t worry though, your pretty boys are never leaving idol dramas with their terrible acting so you will have all the material you want for ages to come.
Hating for no reason–some people really need to get a job. What’s wrong with idol dramas if general audiences enjoy them? Not everyone wants to watch deep, cerebral content, ya know. Some just want to watch nice and pretty after a long, stressful day.
I think the one with Zhang JingYi will do better cos the ones who’ve watched her in Lighter and Princess will always have a soft spot for her.
Ooh, tough choice, two guys with more looks than acting skills. I think I’ll pass on both of them.
I saw the trailer for Overdo and it was hilarious to see the foundation general transmigrated to the Republican era. He looked like straight out of an operetta in that uniform 😂

I feel like both their dramas are different enough from each other that I feel like it’s not much of a showdown. Not interested in either drama, though I do like Wang Churan and Zhang Jingyi too, so good luck to them all.
I find it hilarious how any criticisms toward the male leads sets people off on here. Outside of this I would watch for the women because they have impressed me so far. I also find it awkward how it seems someone is out to seemingly set up a strange rivalry between these two actors like why? Can’t they just both do well. Is this on purpose to create buzz for their respective actors? It just seems a bit much.

Honestly, both fans and antis need to chill—you can’t call out one side while ignoring the other. At the end of the day, an actor wouldn’t be making headlines if he weren’t a major factor in the industry. lol
Since these two dramas will be aired on different platforms, the popularity will depend on whether the streaming platforms is willing or not to spend money buying trending topics or paying the marketing accounts to promote their drama or the artists. I’ve started seeing ads for Overdo on Iqiyi app since last week, so I guess Iqiyi will promote this dramas.
